Business Owner

Founder Julie Michaud has trained and worked in both New York and Paris under and alongside industry greats Liz Michaels, Kevyn Aucoin, Moira Mulholland and Tracie Martyn. She’s been featured several times on TV’s Chronicle and NECN; KISS108 radio; and in Allure; Harper’s Bazaar; Marie Claire; In Style; Brides; and Boston Magazine.

Julie knows a thing or two about identifying and training top talent: six of her protégés have won Best of Boston awards for brows, facials and makeup. Julie herself has won nine of the prestigious awards. Her Newbury Street salons have been filled to capacity.

With over 25 years in the beauty business, Julie is a pioneering force in helping women look and feel their best. She has the distinction of being the first certified permanent makeup (micropigmentation) artist in Boston, and her salon was the first to offer eyelash extension services in Boston. Julie was also an early advocate for medical-grade beauty procedures.

I came here yesterday after being referred by a friend thinking I had made an appointment online. The website said someone would contact me to confirm but no one ever did so I thought I’d go in person and see if they had any same day openings. When I got out of the elevator there was a girl with red hair sitting behind the desk on her cell phone and didn’t even look up or greet me. The other front desk girl greeted me and I told her I was looking for same day appointment she said she had a spot open and to give her one moment. I kid you not I could hear her go in the back of the spa and ask a blonde girl if she would take me and I could hear the blonde girl saying «no tell her I’m booked for the day» seriously? The front desk girl came back and said I’m sorry I actually made a mistake and were booked today. At that point a woman with grey short hair came out and kept asking about lunch while the front desk girl was still lying saying they had no availability. I said thank you and left. She didn’t ask if I wanted to make an appointment for a different day or anything. Pretty crappy service. And the grey haired woman who I later found at was the owner set a pretty bad example because she didn’t greet me either and was too focused on lunch to realize that her employee lied and said they didn’t have anything available. Everyone was completely oblivious. Poor service, and the artists don’t want to work.

This place is amazing. Everyone is so professional. Finding a salon for specified services that do GREAT work is so hard to find these days. I had an appointment for 3D Micropigmentation back in August and went for my touch up with Shalyn. She’s AMAZING. Not knowing what exactly it was that I was getting myself into — she explained everything step by step and made sure I was comfortable and that I liked the results. I don’t like the results — I’m quite frankly obsessed with my eyebrows now and have the confidence of getting out of the house without worrying about drawing them in. HIGHLY recommended!

Julie and Jackie are the most amazing women. They have a team of women who are friendly and fun working with them. I just went back to see Shalyn for a touch-up on my brows, and realized that I probably didn’t write a review last summer when I originally went to her for micropigmentation. Shalyn did an amazing job on my brows, being very thorough and asked for my feedback throughout the process to make sure I was satisfied with the shape and color she was giving me. She was also super personable, so not only did she help me feel at ease, but helped turn what could have been a very uncomfortable afternoon into a really enjoyable experience. And the best part of all is the amount of time I’ve saved over the past year, not needing to draw eyebrows every morning; and my brows never smear off when I pulling off hats, my bike helmet, pullovers, etc. This was the best investment I could imagine, I can’t recommend it enought!

I am happy to update my review based on how wonderfully Julie from management handled this situation. It was nothing at all like what I’d experienced with the receptionist, who is no longer with the company. Julie was truly horrified about my experience, and based on her sincerity and professionalism I’m more than happy to give Prettyology another try. One bad apple at the front desk shouldn’t ruin anyone’s experience and they definitely realize that. Contrary to my initial experience, the people running this business care tremendously about how their clients are treated. I will write a review of my micropigmentation at Prettyology after I get it done. Thanks again Julie, you definitely restored my faith in your business!

When in Europe I had tried lash extensions and loved them. I booked an appointment at prettyology due to the good reviews.
I requested an appointment online then got a call back very normal booked an appointment. Got a reminder email and voicemail. One said 1:30pm and the other 2pm so I left a voicemail and received a return call saying it was 2pm.
Unfortunately I got caught in traffic five minutes past two prettyology called I let then know I was on my way. After finding parking it is now 2:15 I have to walk to the building I don’t see it so I call to ask where it is. This is where it goes bad.
The receptionist is very gossip girl rude and tells me that I am to late as the lady I’m supposed to see has another client after me.
I understand completely and ask to reschedule. She ignores that and keeps telling me there is a fee for that. Okay so I ask what the fee is and she tells me cost of the appointment. $ 250 charge to a new client late due to trying to find the place that’s been in contact the whole time who wants to reschedule? Not okay. $ 50? $ 100? Okay fine. The worst part isn’t the money loss it’s the attitude I received.

Wow. After thousands of dollars spent over the years (including wedding makeup for myself and the entire wedding party), I ask to reschedule due to a sick kid and the first thing Bethany the receptionist does is tell me I’m being charged for the cancellation (recited the policy like I’m 5 years old). I’m not even offered another option until I go to say goodbye and hang up!
I don’t mind paying cancellation fees but speaking to a customer in such a nasty tone? Really?
Given I was pretty tired of this place anyway, the great brows were coupled with overhearing the constant customer gossip among the desk staff gets to be a bit much, it’s a good excuse to not book the micro pigmentation I was going to try.
Please message me if you can recommend alternatives! I can do nyc as well.

Due to over plucking throughout the years, my eyebrows are very sparse with a poor shape :(. After my appointment with Sheena I feel very hopeful and satisfied about my brows. She took her time and used brow powder to fill in areas then cleaned up others by plucking. I explained my brow situation to Sheena and she advised me to use Castor Oil for 8 weeks. I bought some immediately after my appointment and I’m hoping this grows some hairs back!
I read numerous reviews on Unilocal and figured Hey, why not try them out? I requested an appointment via their WebForm and was contacted the next day to set my appointment. There was a slight mix-up with appointment date and time (the receptionist accidentally set it for ²⁄₂₆ in stead of ²⁄₁₉), but they were still able to accommodate me no problem.
Definitely worth every penny and the staff is super friendly. Salon is beautiful too!
