This is a very nice place that is great for a corporate lunch, and at the same time also good for a casual date. We came here for lunch, and everything was as expected. The service was polite and quick. The food was delicious. We ordered mussels, which were perfectly cooked and sweet, with a delicious sauce. Their tapas were tasty(and fatty). The pasta was cooked just right. They have a nice wine list as well.

Wonderful small plates and great atmosphere. Good wine and delightful service. So glad they’ve expanded and hope they’re successful in the additional space.

Good. Solid good. Keep in mind either you are going to be served a few small plates, or one large $ 20 plate. Bread on table was fresh. Mine was very good — had to of course modify the menu. The chef was willing to adapt and did his best to please. It was tasty. Husband got the lobster ravioli(super yum) and sausage which had something strange in the bottom of the dish. Not sure what it was and it was large and flavorless. So I am taking away a star. Overall good.

This is going to be a quick one because we didn’t order much. I went with my roommate. We shared the arugula salad and we both ordered the Capesante. The salad was good but the scallops on the Capesante were really off in flavor. Mine tasted bitter and my roommate’s was really salty. The pasta part was good, but I think that would be hard to screw up. The great, attentive waitstaff and nice, cozy atmosphere were the main positives of my experience

Eating the Piattini Panini is like being punched in the mouth by an extraordinarily delicious pesto-coated fist. The $ 10 price tag initially felt like being punched in the wallet, too, but fortunately the sandwich makes two substantial lunches with its thick chicken cutlet, proscuitto, and mozzarella filling. Which is why I’ll continue to punch Piattini’s number into my phone when I want tasty takeout. POW!

I’m adding Piattini to my list of places to get good coffee in Boston. The espresso is Illy, which is a standard italian brand. I’ll have to return to see how consistent the espresso drinks are. I came here for takeout the other day. The food was excellent and came out very quickly. I had lunch at Piattini about a year ago and the kitchen was extremely slow that time, even though the place was virtually empty. But they seem to have fixed that. I called 10 minutes ahead and they quickly took my order. The restaurant was busy when I came in, but they made me a complimentary single espresso and the food came out in a matter of minutes. Great success. Oh, and the name is a bit misleading because there’s no gelateria here anymore.

Some out-of-town friends picked this place out for lunch and I admit I was hesitant — Newbury St restaurants tend to be overpriced and not that great. But for lunch the food was not expensive at all. Everyone enjoyed their food — I had the bolognese with a tasty sauce. Although the pasta was a little overdone for my taste(I like it pretty al dente), I think Americans generally prefer it a little softer than I do anyway. We ended by sharing a tiramisu among the four of us and our sweetheart of a waitress gave us an extra big piece. Great service, nice location, outdoor seating, good food AND dessert. I’d definitely come back. Only downside is that it’s small. We started off the only ones there but when we left it was full and squishy trying to get out.

Piattini, you definitely had me at «Hello» ! Walked in a bit under the weather on a wet rainy day to the warm aromatic smells of fresh coffee wafting throughout the air. Sat at a cozy little table by the window admiring the sun reflecting on the raindrops and people walking by. Their coffee was absolutely delicious, warm and soothing down the throat as well as strong and flavorful. Having coffee with a side of their scrumptious, moist chocolate cake is a definite must! I can honestly say that I“ve found one of my new favorite comfort foods next time I am on Newbury St. Will definitely look forward to coming back!

Seeing these great reviews of their gelato and even comparisons to Capogiro, I knew I had to stop by and try it for myself. They have a pretty limited selection — maybe 8 – 10 flavors of gelato, and they do change them every so often. I didn’t see any of my Capogiro favorites mentioned before — bacio, scuro, or my favorite of all grapefruit. But I did try the lavender and it wasn’t very good. but maybe their other ones are. The space is very cute though, small, classy. And the man doling out the gelato was very nice and I felt kind of bad not liking their gelato :(Definitely no Capogiro. PS – I totally made the awkward move of trying to find a gelato counter in their restaurant in the other part of the bldg downstairs instead of where it actually is, upstairs on the left past some other store.

Where to begin! Briefly, it’s a pretty small spot, not too many tables, but its also great because that’s what makes it quaint. Very friendly, and not overbearing waitresses. Great selection of paninis and a few other dishes for reasonable prices, especially for its location. I can’t say they have the best gelato in town, but it’s fairly decent and not too bad of a portion. Food and coffee were both served hot and delicious, can’t really ask for more, right? Breakdown: Location: optimal, right in the middle of newbury street Environment: great, kind of makes you feel like you’re not in the busy city Food: yum! I’m not sure when this place opened, but I’m sure they’ll be sticking around!

4 stars for the gelato, 1 star for the food. We came for lunch and were quite disappointed with the food. My seafood ravioli was drowned in a giant bowl of creamy sauce, making it difficult to find the morsels, and even more difficult to eat them in a non-messy way. The sandwich used ingredients of poor quality and looked like something I probably threw together at some point in time using whatever ingredients I had in the fridge. What I did enjoy, however, was the creamy gelato in interesting flavors. My favorites were the sea salt one, with just an intriguing hint of saltiness, and the super rich dark chocolate oscuro one. Great chocolate flavor! I’d come back for the gelato but not for the food.

Caprogiro gelato. Having this delicious Philadelphian treat gets 5 stars right there. Hands down. Cinnamon? Sea Salt? Hazlenut? Lovin’ in my mouth. The food is pretty tasty as well. The paninis are delicious and the wine list is varied and reasonably priced. They even give you little cards so you can remember what kind of wine you had and what it tasted like. Clutch for people with memories like an 85 year old like myself. Ambiance is quaint and perfect for a date or even a light lunch with some great friends. Also, I love love love the cashier. He reminds me of Michael Cera before he went from adorable awkward to just plain«you are making me uncomfortable» awkward. Three cheers for Piattini!

Went out of my way to check out the gelato after reading a Globe article mentioning that it is made from the milk of grass-fed cows and detailing flavors such as marscapone fig. While I enjoyed the Bascio(think Nutella) gelato, I didn’t think it tasted any different than gelato made from regular unhealthy corn-fed cows’ milk. Also the glamorous flavors I read about in the Globe were not there today. In the future I would probably head to the more nearby North End favorites for Gelato. That said I wouldn’t hesitate to stop here if I was already in the Newbury & Fairfield vicinity. It certainly was yummy even if it didn’t quite live up to my high expectations.

Review Dedication: Shaina«is deliciou» S! Amish’s Cow’s Milk Gelato? Seriously??? Shaina’s suggestion was a must try! Linky to Shaina’s profile: As Shaina had mentioned… Gelato derived from a base Amish Cow’s Milk. This is a must try! I’ll avoid going into detail about the establishment as this was only a venture for Gelato and not a full blown meal. One thing that should be emphasized about the restaurant’s décor is the tranquil and upbeat feel. Pine stained wooden wall panels are complemented well by the tungsten fluorescent lighting of the establishment. The Gelato… Hazelnut & Dark Chocolate! Whether consumed by parts or as a whole, the combined flavors of the Hazelnut & Dark Chocolate packed a robust punch! With the Hazelnut, patrons will find a subtle sweetness that’s amplified by the earthy nuttiness of the Hazelnut flavor. A heavy importance should be rendered to the buttery /velvety texture of the gelato. The consistency helps with coating the palate, thus amplifying the luscious and smooth consistency of the Gelato. The Dark Chocolate flavor had with it a robust murkiness that’s accompanied by a heavenly rich chocolate body. Patrons will find that the Dark Chocolate flavored Gelato will render heavy notes of semi-sweet bitterness, which is amplified by the hearty composition of the Gelato. When combined, both flavors produce a Gelato rendition of the classic Ferrero Rocher Chocolate! The combination of the Dark Chocolate and Hazelnut produce both a bold chocolate base that helps with emphasizing the luscious sweetness of the Hazelnut. Needless to say, Piatinni does it right! For those seeking a well balanced and flavorful Gelato, you need not look elsewhere.

Match dotcom users… this is the place to hold your awkward first meet-up with Mr. or Ms. ProbablyNotTheOne. Featuring small cakes, pastries and fresh gelato flavors(from grass-fed cows, mind you) it’s the perfect spot for that initial get-to-know-you-in-person conversation. Why commit to some drawn-out evening? And come on. WHO really wants to do the afternoon«lets grab coffee» thing as their first interaction? «Hi. I’m usually not this hyper. And my breath doesn’t always reek.» But they have coffee and espresso too. So if that’s your thing you can do it here. Seriously. Go here. And if you really like each other, kill a bottle of wine.

Three words: dark chocolate gelato. Having just moved here from Philly, where Capogiro Gelato rules the town’s tastebuds, I knew I had to get my hands on some scuro when I got to Boston. Piattini is the only place in the area that carries it, and it is orgasmic. Seriously. All the flavors are amazing, and the piccolo(smallest) size gives you two flavors to enjoy. At $ 4.72, it’s not cheap, but the gelato is SO sumptuous and rich that you honestly do not need more. Food in this café also looked divine — yummy salads with beets and goat cheese, doughy bread, gooey paninis.

Only 1 review so far?! Or is there another(duplicate) business listing for Piattini? Or is it that brand new? I absolutely LOVED their gelato(Nutella, dark chocolate, hazelnut) and their service was super-friendly. I’d like to make a special mention that they have one table on the balcony that’s quite private and overlooks Newbury — great date spot IMHO!

It was an exceptionally cold December day so of course gelato seemed like an excellent idea. I went in around noon and the place was totally empty, which I found surprising. As it turns out, they serve a lot more than gelato… namely very affordable yet awesome panini, as well as a few pastas and a lasagna of the day. Since snow was on the horizon, I decided to order a few things to hunker down with — some gelato and an enormous 3 cheese grilled cheese sandwich. All for under 10 bucks! I am so glad I did takeout because it was embarrassing how quickly and messily I consumed both. Oh, and did I mention the panini also came with a side of pasta salad? It did, which I also devoured. What can I say, snow makes me hungry! Also — I heard from a friend that they might be struggling financially since opening earlier this fall. Please give them a try! The Back Bay desperately needs more tasty, affordable, and casual establishments, and this place definitely fits the bill.
