My Thai Vegan Cafe

One of the first places I went upon moving to Boston. The food is AMAZING. As a vegetarian of 8 years This place is honestly one of the best vegan places I’ve been to and I’m sure the same is true for long time city folk. The menu is extensive and the service and décor is great (so many plants!!)

My favorite restaurant of two categories: Thai and vegan places with fake meat. I’ve never had a bad meal here, but then again I almost always order the coconut curry with vegan shrimp. That vegan shrimp is bomb and tastes better than regular shrimp from my distant memory (which is not that reliable). Also they have the best mango sticky rice of my life. I wouldn’t eat here every week as it’s not the healthiest vegan food, but it’s a great place to bring out of towners who you want to impress. Don’t be scared by the creepy entrance.

The lemon poppy seed cake is phenomenal.
Meal-​wise, I’ve had a number of stir-​fry and noodle dishes here. I’ve always enjoyed the food — the veggies are fresh and crisp, and the flavors are good.
That said, besides the lemon poppy seed cake, I haven’t found anything to be particularly exceptional. I come here more often than other Thai places because I like supporting vegan establishments, but not necessarily because their curries or stir fries are superior to their non-​veg counterparts.
I’d recommend trying this place for yourself. If your experience is like mine, you’ll find yourself very content with a fine meal, but not overly «wowed» with an exceptional experience.

This place is great. The food is fresh and healthy. The ‘meat’ options are very taste. I recommend trying the drumsticks. Chocolate cake is also amazing.

This place was great! I had the Muslim curry and it incredibly tasty and full of fresh vegetables. I’m always happy to find a vegan café, but even happier when the food isn’t weirdly different. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a good Thai restaurant.

Very friendly waitstaff and casual atmosphere. Spacious seating. If you want to explore a wide range of afffordable vegan dishes with a Thai taste, this place is perfect. Don’t be afraid of the somewhat creepy entrance on the ground floor and the sketchy stairway. Once you get up to the restaurant at the top floor of the building, it’s a wonderful space full of big windows lined with pretty houseplants.

I really wanted to love this place. I love anything Thao, especially if it’s vegetarian or vegan because it means I can actually eat it. Because Seattle is so vegetarian-​friendly, we have a plethora of restaurants that serve strictly vegan Thai food or have many vegetarian/​vegan options. This place was subpar to say the least.
We ordered a bowl of the Tom yum and a bowl of the Tom kha to start off our meal. The Tom kha was gross. It just felt like I was drinking salty coconut milk with large chunks of vegetables. The Tom yum was better, but I recall it being overly sour. I ordered the phad Thai while my boyfriend ordered the phad see ew. Both were okay but way too greasy.
There didn’t seem to be too many vevetarian-​friendly places in Boston’s Chinatown, so I’m grateful for the opportunity to try the food. However, I definitely wouldn’t return, as there are a few other options that are way better and less expensive…

As soon as I find a spot that’s all vegan — I get really excited. This place wasn’t very nicely decorated and the service wasn’t great, but the food is amazing. The people working there are really sweet I would have liked them to check in more with us. We had to call for their attention to order, get the dessert meni, the check and to give them the check. But all of that doesn’t really matter when the food is great. And the chocolate cake OMG!!!

Really incredibly good Thai vegan. Don’t let the door to the outside scare you away with its sketchiness… go up the stairs to the second floor and you will be surprised by this clean, nice restaurant with excellent food!

If you’re looking for vegan food that has the under-​taste of oil in each dish this is the place.
I love the concept of this restaurant, Vegan versions of popular Thai dishes, but I found the tofu to be bland and the flavor profile unremarkable. There was a «sameness» to the various meals and the veggie meats were off-​putting, kind of like the vegetarian version of mystery meat. I wasn’t eager to finish which means I probably won’t be back.

Imagine my excitement when finding out a 100% vegan Thai restaurant was literally a block away from my hostel. We got takeaway for dinner. The employees were quick to help and the food was done in about 15 minutes after ordering.
My husband got the Yellow Noodles with «Shrimp» which were stir-​fried noodles in a brown sauce with veggies and shrimp. He proclaimed it delicious and it was some of the best Asian noodles he’s ever had.
I ordered the Green Curry with «Shrimp» which was labelled as hot on the menu, but was surprisingly mild. The flavor was good though and the sauce was creamy with a large amount of vegan shrimp and vegetables.
My main problem though (and why they lost a star) was because I’m pretty sure they used green food dye in the curry. The curry itself looked like a usual green curry, but one of the «shrimp» and a bamboo shoot had bright green spots that looked like badly-​mixed food dye had touched them.
The food was good enough for me to return, but I’d be sure to ask the servers which dishes contained artificial colors and such next time.

5 people when I arrived, very quiet for 2 days before Christmas. A lot of plants near the window but it’s the color that’s drains the place of all energy.
I ordered the tofu with ginger, onions and scallions in a soy sauce. Presentation wise, it’s fine, nothing special, and the taste is good.

The food is terrific! Highly recommend checking it out whether or not your vegan. My only negative is the décor; which does not effect the food in any way. Large portions — think family style — fresh ingredients, etc. I had the mango curry — yum!

Love this place!!! Like other mentioned, the initial impression from the entrance leaves something to be desired, but once you arrive upstairs, the space opens up quite nicely.
The food is absolutely delicious! Everything on the menu is vegan, but they have ‘beef and ‘chicken’ dishes made with meat substitutes.
My friend and I each ordered tofu dishes (tofu with green beans and yellow noodles with tofu). They were rich, flavorful, great portion-​size (I was able to eat my fill and still have some to take home for leftovers, without it being TOO much).
To finish the meal, we ordered the vegan chocolate cake and carrot cake. Literally some of the best cake I’ve ever had, and the fact that it was vegan makes it that much better.
I will DEFINITELY be coming back here and encouraging my friends to give this place a visit as well!

I was dying to try some local vegan faire as I always try to get a taste for cities. I was thrilled that my parents were willing to come along without any complaints.
First off this is not really Thai. It’s more general Asian mix, which is annoying. Spice levels were not Thai and practically non-​existent.
We all ordered a lot because it had been a long day of walking.
I had the wonton soup and Pad See Ew with tofu. My meal was fine, but I’m glad I got tofu. My mom had the Tom Ka and was disappointed. She also had the Pad Thai and the veggie meats gave all of us a belly ache and sorry for the TMI, gassy. What are they putting in this stuff? Dad got curry and husband got fried rice. No one left the table «wowed» or even fully satisfied.
I was really bummed because it’s important to find good food when I’m feeding my non-​vegan family members and this place missed the mark.
I was sad that the flavours were meh, veggie meats weird (what is up with this happening in restaurants?), and the service was slow. They were standing around playing on their phones while we sat and waited for water and our bill. We finally asked the busboy for our bill.
I did not think this was quality vegan food. This was meh. Pass.

Pad woon sen plus:
* taste: not much flavor; the veggie-​meat was probably the only part that tasted reasonably different; everything else about the dish was oily and greasy.
* texture: bean thread noodles should be q but these fell flat; they were clumped and a few chunks were burnt; veggies saved the dish but were also coated in oil puddles
* portion size: smaller than most restaurants around the area at the same price.
Service:
* brusque
* not the most effective communication skills
Overall: PASS

Don’t be fooled by the front door, it all becomes much more appetizing once you get upstairs. My Thai Vegan Café is a gem! The restaurant is spacious and casual with a big menu. Prices are very affordable. My friend and I tried the lunch deal, which came with soup, 2 dumplings or spring rolls along with your choice of entrée. A great deal! The curry with vegan beef was really tasty. For the entrée, you get to pick from vegan chicken, beef, shrmip or tofu. I will definitely be back to try the other lunch deals!

I love Thai food, and I love vegan food, so this place was a home run for me!
No need to worry about fish sauce sneaking into your food.
The menu is HUGE. From a long list of appetizers (variety of spring rolls, dumplings), all kinds of noodle dishes (pad thai, pad see ew, pad kee mao etc), fried rice variations and a plethora of curry options, there is bound to be something for everyone here. Most dishes can be customized to the kind of faux «meat» you want– vegan chicken/​shrimp/​beef I believe.
The green curry my friend got was extremely flavorful and the «vegan shrimp» tasted so good. I got Pad Kee Mao– portion size was average and the faux chicken was a nice addition. The Lard Na my friend got was my favorite.
Leave some room for sweets! They have a bubble tea menu with many flavors. So rare to find bubble tea made vegan! I had the thai iced bubble tea– delicious boba. The dessert menu is small but the cake slices are ginormous and worth every penny.
The prices are very reasonable. Service is pretty good. The décor /​ambience is just casual– I would say that is not the strong point but the food speaks for itself.
I would love to visit again with more people so we can eat everything!!!

I should say I love this place somehow. It’s located on the second floor of a building, so don’t judge the place when you see the stairs (it’s Chinatown, some people usually spit on the floor) and head upstairs.
I’ve never sat down and have lunch there, I’ve only been to this place to grab some food to go. The restaurant is big, with a lot of sitting inside and views to the street. The menu is big, and they lave a luncheon special composed by soup, dumplings/​rolls and a main dish.
When you enter you are asked for if you want to sit down or grab something to take away, and then they give the menu to you in order to take a look.
The two times I sticked with the luncheon menu, so I grab a Tom Yum soup (hot and tasty) and some fried dumplings.
I had Pad Thai with the mix of veggie alternative of shrimp and chicken, the taste of them were really good, I didn’t miss the real shrimp or chicken.
They packed everything in the bag really good, in order to avoid pouring something or accidentally open the recipients. However the recipients are pretty well built and their quality helps to avoid accidents.
The second time I had mango curry chicken, that was very good but I expected it to be more spicy.
Nonetheless to say, service is not as nice as outside Chinatown (that’s my experience when I ordered some food to go), but it’s very attendant and quick.

I kid you not, this place has a menu longer than the Cheesecake Factory and it’s all vegan! The only reason why this doesn’t get 5 stars in my book is because of the gross steam veggie-​chicken dumplings we started off with. Beware and do NOT order those. The dumpling cover was very pasty and the dumpling filling was very odd tasting.
Moving on to our entrees, we shared the Kang-​Ped Bhet-​Gang (veggie roast duck red curry) and the Moo Yang (veggie-​beef vermicelli). The sauce in the roast duck dish was delish although it didn’t have a very good faux roast duck texture. The veggie-​beef vermicelli was also a pretty choice. Portions are ginormous and the waitstaff attentive and helpful.
I promise, promise, promise another visit back to this place soon!
