Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Surgery Center

lets hope we all use crazy SPF sunblock and don’t have a run in with skin cancer… HOWEVER…when I was diagnosed with a basal cell and told I should have Mohs susrgery, a good friend (derm) and colleague said «only go to Dr Chrys Schmults… ii pass along this recommendation… she is a wonderful physician. clinician…and the staff is unbeliebable… supportive, kind, even loving. no one ever left me alone. at one point I was waiting in the room for Dr Schmults to close my owund (after successfully finding clean margins the first time around)…and I asked the nurse, who was only going to be gone for a minute, to leave the door ajar… just so I did not have a chance to lie around getting anxious… immediately one of the nurses stuck her head in to ask whether I was claustrophobic. which I am not. they were concerned that the towel for the sterile field over my face would bother me (it did not) .but obviously they are able to adjusts for many eventualities… Dr Ruiz, who is Dr. Schmults’ fellow was lovely… explained everything to me… I felt badly for her that I said I really wanted Dr Schmults to do the surgery… she was very gracious… told me not to worry, that there were many opportunities for her to get experience… I could go on… and only with good words… but, I will end… except for one very important thing…
as a business consultant (to women owned businesses) I teach people that the MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN ANY BUSINESS OR MEDICAL PRACTICE IS THE PERSON WHO ANSWERS THE PHONES. the first point of contact… so, many words of praise to Melanie… the kindest, most professional, most reassuring woman… if anything on the first line can keep your blood pressure down, its Melanie (and Natalie. whom I did not get to meet, unfortunately).These women set the tone for the entire practice… and they do it effortlessly… because that’s the kind of people they are…
finally…USE YOUR SPF RELIGIOUSLY… COVER UP… BUT. if you ever need Mohs with some great plastic work. this is the only place…

Five stars to a place I hope I never see again. And that I hope YOU never need to visit. And I wish I could give them way more than that.
It started with a biopsy by my dermatologist, a diagnosis of a basel cell carcinoma and a slight pause from me after his assistant informed me of the results. «Don’t worry,» she said. «We’ll send you to the Faulkner where they’ll take care of it. They specialize in Mohs surgery,» as I paused again.
Needless to say, I was a bit freaked. Yet from the minute I set up my appointment to when I had my stitches removed, everything went as smoothly as a medical visit could. They gave me a 100 accurate description of the procedure and what would be involved. Nobody sugar-​coated anything but reassured me it was relatively successful and routine.
Keeping patients informed goes a long way toward providing a positive hospital experience. Every step of the way the staff was completely professional about what was involved. The LPNs working on me seemed to inherently grasp my apprehension and took care to explain the process. Particularly, the surgeon, Dr. Chrysalyne Schmults, was frank yet confident in describing the procedure, the (minimal) risks and success rates. Again, and like everyone else, she was reassuring but not patronizing.
The actual procedure required some local anesthesia and some cutting. Not that I like having anything invasive done to me and everyone did their best to move the process along. I don’t know if it was routine or difficult… everyone went about their business with a minimum of fuss and no disruptions. There was the need to go back and get a bit more of the growth and that too was accomplished smoothly. Dr. Schmults took care to minimize the area to be sliced and kept the incision to something that now looks like a thin red line. Moreover, after a few hours any swelling had diminished considerably and I could go back to my daily routine. No surprises. Boring is good.
I have to compliment Dr. Schmults for her caring manner and approach to my procedure. She was reassuring, yet quite serious. Every step of the way she informed me of what was happening and how it was proceeding. She gave informed, incisive answers to my many questions, stressing proper wound care and making sure I knew my responsibilities once I left the clinic. The staff was very much a reflection of her manner and approach. And I wasn’t alone in this… every patient there was treated the same. This is a level of care that I expect in the best of hospitals and I’m glad I got it here.
Mohs surgery is highly successful in most patients and there is an effort to make it routine and as painless as possible. There is about a 2 percent chance it’ll come back in this region again. If it does I’m glad to know where it will be cared for quickly, (almost) painlessly, and as professionally as I have ever been cared for at any medical institution.
Five stars. I may even review it again and give it another five stars. Most impressive, all around.
