LIT on Newbury

Clothing is off season and unnecessarily over priced. A lot of «thot» clothes but nothing truly wearable — almost like the feeling of walking into your closet and having a lot of clothes but nothing to wear.
Maybe a good deal for high school /​college girls thirsty for attention, but pales in comparison to other Newbury reatail locations.

Best store in Boston hands down! I go in almost 3 times a week! The girls there are so nice and they know so much about what’s in! Every purchase I have made has been 5 stars! I’ll go back and buy one thing in every color! Definitely a must when you are in the city looking for some cute stuff

There are better stores on Newbury Street with similar stuff but this place is still a cute spot to go poke around in.
I have been disappointed on a couple of occasions where things fall apart easily or things that I bought from there are stained.
I got a light purple halter-​top from them a few months ago and realized there was a stain on it after it had sat in my closet with the tag on it for a few weeks. The night i decided to wear it, i couldn’t (because of the stain) and when I tried to return it, they said that I had probably got the stain there myself even though the tag was still on and I had not worn it. Could not be exchanged or returned. Granted the receipt was long gone. Bummer.

I’ve gone to my fair share of mid-​priced boutiques, and this one was like most of the others I’d been to in terms of selection and quality. My main comment is on the saleswoman who was there when I happened to be there. She got visibly miffed at me when I told her I didn’t really want her to pick out a few pieces for me to try on, as she had offered. She proceeded to ignore me the rest of the time and lavish attention on all the other girls who came into the store. When I was going in and out of the dressing room, she stared at me like I was in her way. I could hear her over-​the-​top conversations with the other girls, slowly convincing them that they could wear some hideous, too-​tight piece «to work, for going out, or just casual lounging around» — really? Lounging around in a bodycon dress with huge cutouts? Going to work in a bodycon dress with huge cutouts? Kudos on the selling talent here — just in the 20 minutes I was in the store, she convinced so many girls to buy pieces they clearly didn’t really feel comfortable with. TL;DR: Selection is cute and fine, nothing out of the ordinary — keep your wits about you and your head on your shoulders when you come in.

Had bought a top of poor quality, but it ended up being just a bad seed out of the bunch. The manager was very helpful and accommodating. I look forward to shopping there again.

My favorite boutique in Boston! I’ve been a regular here for two years now and I can never get enough. Every time I need something for an event, am looking for a cute new outfit, or looking for a gift for a friend, I come here. I loooove Maria — I think she’s one of the managers — she is an absolute lifesaver. At this point she knows my taste and what I feel comfortable wearing and always puts together the cutest outfits for me. She is super honest, absolutely hilarious, and never pushy, and it’s such a breath of fresh air compared to the typical aggressive nature of people working in retail. Andrea, another girl who works here, is also super sweet and always helpful.
They have really great, unique pieces that you don’t see everywhere so I can always count on finding something cute and different here. I love that it’s not huge and overwhelming but there is always a great selection, and they also have really great affordable jewelry. Almost all of my favorite clothes and accessories in my closet are from Lit!

Three of us from age 17 – 42 found unique fashion items at great prices and the service was fantastic on Columbus Day! Go down the stairs and check it out-​were very glad we did! Leather jacket, dress, peplum shirt, and perfect earrings to accessorize!

When you think of Newbury Street boutiques, $$$$ usually comes to mind. However, if you’re looking for fun, fresh, fashion forward clothes, this is the place for you. The prices are reasonable and unintimidating depending on the designer. I’ve purchased dresses for $ 48 and some for $ 115. There are more expensive items in the store, but the range of choices in clothing pieces is good for each price point.
What’s cool about this place (at least I was told this 7 years ago when I first set foot into this store), is that the purchasers for this store go to runway shows and pull clothes from designers off these shows, so the pieces are usually fresh and trendy. They never overstock items on the floor, so it never feels like you’re digging, but there’s enough variety where you feel like it’s a bit of a treasure hunt for a cute dress or shirt.
It can be hit or miss, but I find that this place is more often a hit.
Service is always great. The staff members are always friendly and accommodating and always start a dressing room for you. They also offer great advice when you need it (I’ve walked out with 3 dresses they recommended before!), but if you want to shop on your own, they’re not pushy. And when I tell them I’m on a budget and can only buy one item, they’re great with helping me shop for cute stuff with lower prices (and there’s no pressure to buy!). Today, the salesgirl was spot on with helping my best friend shop for an event dress, without breaking the bank. She was pretty honest, too, about stuff that didn’t look as nice on us.
I also tend to prefer this location over the other Lit on Newbury (the one close to Urban Outfitters).I just think the service and vibe are a lot better.
Whether you’re looking for fun and casual, chic, or something for a special occasion, this place is definitely a great spot to try!

I bought a sweater and a jacket last night at this boutique, staff was friendly. The jacket i bought had no price tag and she had taken it off the mannequin for me, so she had to look up the price, i bought both items.
I went home and neither item fit well, i had tried them on quickly at the store but didnt realize the fit was off. I had already ripped the tag off the sweater so i knew i was stuck with that one, but i had not gotten a tag on the jacket so i called the next morning to make sure i could return this item without a problem before i made the trip back. The woman, i believe her name was shannon told me she couldnt do the return because she was not the one on the floor the previous night and she didnt want to get into any issues. I understood and asked for help via a managers phone or email or to call the employee from last night. She agreed to call that employee and then later returned my call to tell me she couldnt get in touch with her but that she would honor the refund.
Because I know what a hassle she could have made this situation for me and already having a sweater that doesnt fit that i have to keep, i am very gracious for her good will favor on this issue

The clothing selection was good, as was the jewelry. But when my friend and I went to ask the sales person for help, she was less than accommodating. Put a sour mood on the shopping experience at LIT.

So obviously I’m a dude, and no, I don’t know a whole lot about women’s clothing.
But I was recently in LIT with my girlfriend, and was extremely impressed with the customer service provided by the sales associate. My gf had been in a few days before to look for a potential dress to wear for a wedding. Not only did the sales associate remember her, she remembered what color/​kinds of dresses my gf liked on her previous visit. She then took the time to walk her around the store and pick out several new arrivals that my gf might like.
My gf didn’t end up finding anything, but the associate told her that the brand she had liked on her first visit would be shipping several new styles in a few weeks, and to be sure to come check them out.
Hats off to LIT for some fantastic service!

Loved this store! You have to be in a mood for digging & spend some time looking. Great fashion jewelry to be found! I bought a great knit skirt, which was very unique but a bit pricey for the material $ 60. The jewelry was very reasonably priced. Very unique. No men’s clothing though.

Huge variety of dresses and skirts, organized by color, with prices ranging from $ 50-​$ 350. I saw a dozen dresses I could wear out or to work.
What I found especially remarkable was the friendly sales staff. They weren’t at all pushy, and didn’t even mind that my friend and I ended up trying on half the store, taking pictures, and laughing at items we thought were ridiculous. I could easily see myself being annoyed at that kind of customer (which is why I am not in the service industry), but the sales women laughed with us and offered occasional compliments.
I ended up buying a gorgeous skirt ($ 55) and a white sundress that looks like a cross between your grandma’s doily and a first communion dress, but for some reason I loved it… ($ 75).

Love this boutique! Always find something, and if not it always inspires me. My to go place for finding the perfect cocktail dress.

I first found this store when I admired some girls dress walking past me, and my boyfriend at the time chased her down to figure out where it was from. Within an hour I had purchased the dress and was wearing out to dinner!
This is currently one of my top 2 places to shop. I love how all their clothes are unique, so I wind up with cute stuff that no one else has! The downside is that it can be a bit hit or miss. They always have a great selection of in-​style clothes, and all at a good price (most dresses are between $ 75-​$ 150).

The Lit Boutique on Newbury Street has a wide array of selections of dresses for parties, casual wear, date nights, etc. They have very cute tops, dresses, and accessories. Their prices are reasonable comparing it with other stores on Newbury Street, tops would average around $ 30 – 40 and dresses in the $ 70 range. Whenever I come here, I would always see something I like (but not really need). The only problem is that once sizes are gone, they’re gone forever and they are not replenished.

Love the clothing here but I can’t give it a full five stars because I’m not crazy about their customer service. Hate the way the practically rip drinks out of your hands as you walk in! Come on it’s like we’re in Nordstroms! We’re all adults here, if someone spills a drink on something make them pay, but don’t take my drink away! My latte was taken away to never land and when I went to retrieve it someone else had grabbed it by mistake… no bueno.
Other than that great little boutique to find cute outfits for a night on the town or that special occassion.

I absolutely love the clothing they bring in here. I recently bought a summer/​spring dress for a reasonable price (about $ 80) and for the most part, they have a good mix of reasonably priced to expensive clothing. The sales people are generally friendly although I have come across one or two who are only friendly once they know you are ready to purchase something (call me old fashioned but I always thought customer service starts from the moment I walk in the door).
The reason I didn’t give them a full 5 stars isn’t necessarily their fault. I’ve been to the store in the North End which is easily 3 – 4 times bigger so they obviously have more variety in their collection. The Newbury store, being so small, has a lot less to pick from (in comparison) but overall, it is still a favorite and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for something fresh and different.

I like the dresses, but are a little pricey for the quality. If you want a cute going out dress or a sun dress, this is the place to go. They have a great selection however, their sizes are limited, so if you find a dress in your size, and love it, buy it – it won’t be there for too long.
The ladies that work their are very friendly and helpful.

Designs so stylin’ my jaw hit the floor when I saw the prices, clothes for less than a hundo in a Newbury boutique?! And then I examined the other tags emblazoned with Made in China, the poorly stitched seams and chintzy fabrics. Great for trendy evening tops or cute dresses but with the quality of Forever 21 and only a small stock of each size makes for a pretty unsatisfactory visit. Oh, and skip the jewelry, super gaudy galore.
