History
Established in 2014.
La Sanghita Café was started in July 2014, after the founder fell in love with East Boston and decided to move here. La Sanghita Café opened on December 7th, 2014 and has gone through incredible growth and transformation over the first few months. What started as a two person café now employees 8 people and is continuing to grow and expand, especially with it’s educational programs.
Meet the Business Owner
Monica L.
Business Owner
Monica is the founder of La Sanghita Café, Boston’s first worker-owned cooperative café. She is a teacher, herbalist, chef and business owner of Latino and Jewish heritage, who for the past several years has been committed to promoting social justice through educating people in the Boston area about nutrition, health and wellness. She holds a master’s degree in bilingual education and has been trained in holistic health education, herbalism, and mindfulness practices such as yoga, which have all greatly influenced La Sanghita Café’s mission of spreading mindfulness through healthy food, education and a supportive environment.
