Meet the Business Owner

Ky N.

Business Owner

A question I get a lot is, «How did you get into this business». Well here goes…

I went to school at Tufts University and worked as a bartender at Johnny D’s in Davis Square. That’s where I had my first experience with the restaurant business and I loved it.

In 1999 I dropped out of graduate school (I was studying economics) and moved to NYC and started an internet company with my college roommate (www.homecenter.com). After a year of that I moved back to Boston and spent four years at a hedge fund in Boston.

Although I enjoyed the work in finance I was missing the entrepreneurial fire. I decided to quit the hedge fund, move back to New York City and get more experience in the restaurant world.

I got a job as a bus boy at Pastis in New York. It was hard work but I learned a lot. I knew then that if I still enjoyed the restaurant world working as a bus boy, then I would love it as an owner.

After a year busing tables in NYC, I returned to Boston and opened Kingston Station.
