I will try not to gush, but after dealing with Bank of America for 10 years(locked in because I had my mortgage with them) the service at Hingham has been refreshing and a very welcome change. I’ve been banking with Robin in the South End for 4 months now and she has been so helpful. The girls behind the teller line always remember my name and give my dog a treat every time we visit. This community bank offers«think outside the box» banking. If you’re tired of big bank horrible customer service and fees bank with HIFS!

Unfortunately, in order to leave a review I have to give one star, otherwise I strongly feel this branch doesn’t deserve any stars. I called the branch manager, Anthony Tierno and set up an appointment to meet with him regarding obtaining a mortgage loan. Prior to our meeting he requested my pay stubs, prior year tax returns, bank statements etc. Which is to be expected. I emailed copies of all documents requested. During our meeting we discussed what I was looking for and he recommended me to a mortgage broker, and clearly stated if the mortgage broker didn’t offer what I needed to please return to him for additional assistance in my mortgage application process. The mortgage broker Anthony recommended was unable to help so I called Anthony back on several occasions, leaving voicemails to discuss the next steps. I followed up via email as well however I never received any communication back from Anthony. It’s completely unprofessional to not return phone calls/email within 24 – 48 hours, and it is blatantly rude not to respond at all. I wouldn’t be so concerned had I not sent Anthony all of my personal documentation, however I did. I wouldn’t recommend Anthony personally, and if you chose to work with Hingham Savings, I would suggest you visit a different branch!

Thank you so much for the nice review from the South End team. We give 110% for our customers everyday. We are in fact opening a new branch at 80 Charles St Beacon Hill in the summer of 2011.

Why HIFS deserves 5 big stars: The branch manager called me personally to sign documents, even though the transaction was small. All of their correspondence was hand-signed with local phone numbers to reach the senders at. If you so desire, they offer ATM cards without debit functionality for old-school people like me, but you can use online banking and online bill pay even though your debit card doesn’t have a MC/Visa logo. Score for paying utility payments online. Score again for using cash to pay for physical stuff but still being able to deposit at an ATM. Tons of my friends, regardless of bank, have had fraudulent transactions on their debit cards due to fraud in the strip readers at various bars. You don’t have to link accounts to qualify for free savings accounts with checking accounts. Their CDs beat local and online banks. At this time, 1.30% APY for 12 month, $ 500 min deposit!!! They offer 90 day CDs. They offer savings passbooks and passbook loans for amounts as little as $ 300. They will give you an actual NOTE in paper, not an online agreement, when you borrow. They were rated #1 savings thrift in the East and #2 nationally by banking industry magazines. It’d be awesome if you expanded elsewhere in Boston. PLEASE Hingham Savings DONOTGETTAKENOVER by another bank or change at all. You’ve been the same since 1834; it’s all over your advertising. So far, I’ve been sold on your Yankee ways, and hopefully I will be a customer for life. Please don’t change. Ever.
