History

Established in 1999.

Henna By Heather started off as a side project, a hobby of an artsy anthropology major during her college years. Once starting grad school in 2001, Heather’s henna business started to really blossom, when the manager of Estas Elementals asked her to do henna there on the weekends in Providence. From there, the inquiries for parties and weddings started pouring in. In the next few years, Heather started looking into local festivals to set up at and further spread the love of henna.

Since 2006, year Heather has hosted The Henna Gathering, a conference where artists worldwide gather to share and learn the art of henna.

Around 2008, Heather created the henna supply and artist agency part of her business, Artis​ti​cAdorn​ment​.com.

As of 2016, Heather divides her time fairly equally between doing henna for private events (weddings, bat mitzvahs, sweet sixteens, etc), large public festivals (mostly in CT, RI, MA), and educational workshops locally, nationally, and abroad.

Heather is an internationally certified, fully insured henna artist in the Boston/​Providence metro area. She has been doing henna since she began college in 1999. As an anthropology major at Boston University (2002), her passion for the art of henna comes from a deep respect for the cultures that use henna traditionally.

Heather is the hostess of the Northeast Henna Gathering, the largest get-​together of henna artists in the New England and the Northeastern US. She teaches workshops for colleges, schools, after school programs, libraries, and adult education. Her henna work has been featured in galleries worldwide, print media, and TV.

Heather’s instructional videos have been an inspiration and important source of information for innumerable henna artists in training. Her book of henna patterns in all styles, designed specifically for henna beginners, is has been published electronically, and she is also very generous with free henna patterns for all who visit her website.

I have had henna done by Heather quite a few times in the past, and all I can say is that she is absolutely amazing! She only uses the highest quality of fresh henna, that leaves the nicest, darkest stain, that lasts a couple of weeks, at least! I love to let her do a freehand design, instead of just picking on out of the book, because you truly get a feel for her artistic talent! She has done some intricately detailed designs on my arm and hands, that I wish could have lasted forever. Such a nice person to deal with. The best henna artist in the area, hands down!

I should have written this review nine months ago, but better late than never! Heather did the henna for a (n Indian) wedding where I was MOH. She took the time to do at least five of us, and even stayed a little late. She was very professional and very TALENTED! She was able to do freestyle when I requested something a little unusual, and she gave us great directions about how to keep the henna looking fresh and how to get it darker. She’s very friendly and wonderful to work with.

we needed a henna lady for a time she was not available at so she helped me finding a henna lady at the time we needed, in a crazy short notice! I wasn’t even sure I’ll find one but because of her help I did.

So much talent! Heather did wedding henna for my bridesmaids and me two days before my wedding, and she also did henna at the wedding for my guests. Her work was gorgeous. The guests loved the experience, and she catered to everyone’s diverse requests. She did a neck tattoo on grandma, a snake, a memorial swan tattoo for an aunt who recently lost her husband, whimsical designs, I mean she delivered everything! She is great to work with. It is some of the best money I spent on my wedding!

Thank you, Heather, for hooking me up with my very first, cool, Henna tattoo on my hand. I visited Henna at the 2014 Unilocal Anniversary party, but would certainly return to see her again… Here’s why: the henna lasted quite a while (over a week). She listened to what I wanted and came up with a design that I really liked. She provided me with instructions so as to keep the image from smudging and to keep it lasting. Despite the typical henna design done on the top of one’s hands, she did it on my palm so work wouldn’t freak. Great thinking. Thanks again!

Henna by Heather is a haven of handsome henna handiwork!
Up to this point, I have received two beautiful pieces of henna (each on separate occasions) and have been completely thrilled with both of them. I first encountered Henna by Heather at a Unilocal Elite Event a while back. I was delighted by Heather’s expertise, friendly attitude, and efficiency in creating a design that I was not only happy with, but proud to show off to all my friends! Most recently, I came across her booth at the East Providence Heritage Festival and after noting the company, dove right into her books to pick out a design.
Heather had a variety of price levels and multiple examples of what she could produce making it very easy to decide how much I wanted to spend and examine just what it was I could expect for my money. I chose a $ 20 tattoo design and after looking at it together, decided that Heather would free hand something around the same size and design of what I was initially intending to get. Usually, with something even semi-​permanent, I will sweat over the design and go back and forth until I’m super certain about what I want. Fortunately with Heather, I have no problem leaving the design choices in her hands. Her artistry is fantastic!
After a quick glance at the website, it is clear Henna by Heather is much more than just a booth you’ll find at festivals, events, and the like throughout New England. She provides services for bridal and pre-​natal henna, coordinates a number of other specialties into event planning (like tarot-​card readers, belly dancers, etc.), and is quite flexible in providing whatever service you want in a variety of settings and locations.
I highly recommend Henna by Heather and encourage you to check in if she’s at an event near you!

In the last year, I have been hennaed by Heather 4 different times! She is absolutely amazing and I always look forward to getting henna. Recently, I had a birthday party at hosted at her studio in RI and it was great. Space for food that we brought, seating was great! She is absolutely amazing! Highly recommend anyone to host either a party or walk-​in for henna with her! Lastly, she is such a great artist and I have always been impressed when I tell her to henna whatever she wants to!

Heather is the best in the business, hands down. I’m somewhat of a henna addict, you might say, and any time I come across a henna artist at a fair, or what have you, I always indulge. What I love about Heather’s work is that she is so precise, and very clean with her designs (I’ve had others where the lines are just way too thick, and look very amateur), and she also works quite fast, again, compared to others who take forever to do what she can do in about half the time. No, patience is not one of my virtues, but I digress.
So if you have the opportunity to get adorned by Heather, go for it, you’ll be glad you did!

I had contacted Heather for my sister’s bachelorette party. My sister had had henna done by Heather at a past Unilocal event. Heather was pleasant, easy to work with, but had been previously booked on the day of the party. Not to worry though. She offered to send a colleague instead!
She sent the very talented, very helpful, very creative, kind, friendly, cheerful, Jamilah.
Jamilah’s work was fantastic! In total, she did henna for about 12 ladies. She did arms, hands, feet, backs and a leg. And it was all gorgeous! Everyone was very happy with their henna. More importantly, my sister LOVED it. Mine lasted about 2 weeks, but some girls lasted longer. Seems like it depends on your skin type.
Moral of the story: I would definitely call Heather again!

Oh why why why do I work for a conservative employer??? If I didn’t I would have Heather put designs all over my hands! She was at the Unilocal Backstage event on 4⁄23 and I was feeling rebellious so I asked her to do a design on the inside of my wrist. She designed it on the spot and did a fabulous job! It’s so pretty and I feel like a little rebel when I push up my sleeves at work — watch out! :-)

Heather did a great free-​hand design for me at a recent Unilocal event.
When I sat down at her work station, she was clearly at the end of a very long night of endless henna (it WAS nearing the end of party time). Despite my timing, Heather was so gracious and patient with asking me questions about a design I might like.
I gave her some ideas and let her create her own design based on just a few details about my life and likes. The result was an intricately beautiful trio rendering of a butterfly, bird and flower trailing down my forearm to the top of my hand.
Three days later, I am still getting compliments on her awesome artistry. I would definitely seek her out again for another design.

Unilocal held the Backstage Pass Party and Heather was giving henna tattoos in the back. I could not resist getting one! I was always a henna fan since high school back in the 90’s, so i had some knowledge of it already. Heather had a great steady hand for intricate design and informed me of the length of the tattoo’s staying power and how to exfoliate once it begins to fade away. She produced a scroll-​like design without hesitation and her freehand was flawless. I am (still) impressed! She was a very pleasant, soft spoken young woman and I was very comfortable working with her. The tattoo looks fantastic and I have received many compliments.

I absolutely loved her free style design at the Unilocal Backstage party. She did an abstract design on my right hand and didnt hesitate to get started. It came out great! Nice rich dark color. And she squeezed me in a lil after the event was officially closed. Good business woman. and beautiful design.

My fiancée and I are getting married in a month. She had called Heather to inquire about her availability. She wasn’t available for the dates requested, but her «better than the rest of the world» attitude was quite annoying. She said, «people of our (her and her colleague) caliber get booked six months in advance». A simple we’re not available that day would’ve sufficed. The additional star is for the fact that, she did offer to put us in touch with some new budding artists.
With that attitude, I’ll take my business elsewhere.

I’d never done this before and I must say, it was quite relaxing. The design on my hand looks great and Heather is awesome at replicating what you point out in a book of over 100 designs.
I would totally do this with a bunch of girlfriends for a bday or bachelorette party. It’s different and interesting and lasts way longer than a mani/​pedi!

I couldn’t believe it when I asked Heather if she had been an artist before she started doing henna and she said no. I picked a design out of a book and she mimicked it to a degree while adding her own flair. I love it. I probably look like the stereotypical stoner, just sitting here staring at my hand.
Heather was very open, allowing me to dictate where the design laced around my fingers. The process was strangely relaxing. When the henna started to flake off (supposed to happen) I was worried that it wasn’t leaving a dark enough color, but the next morning I had a beautiful dark sepia design on my hand. Love it, love it, love it.
I would love to make this a part of a girl’s night ritual.

I went to a Unilocal event that had Heather there doing henna. I had never gotten henna done before but I always thought it looked great. I have always wanted a tatoo also but haven’t settled on what it should be so this is perfect since it is not permanant but it also doesn’t wash off right away either.
So I sat down not really having a specific design in mind but she looked at me and the jewelry that I wear and came up with a design on the spot for me that I loved and everyone that has seen it has been complimenting it also.
She is self taught also and now is teaching henna as well. So I must say she is great! I would highly recommend her to anyone.
