We got a Unilocal deal for a 4 week bootcamp here. It was 4 sessions, for 2 hours each, for a total of 8 hours. Our class was small — about 7 or 8 people. The teacher was good, although she was Spanish (from Spain) and none of the people in the room were used to Spanish/​Castillian accents, and she seemed kind of annoyed with Latin American Spanish. Since most people in Boston and the US will have experience with folks from Mexico, Central America and South America, it seems a bit strange to have a teacher who didn’t teach us the verb conjugations and terms that are the most common there. She was a good teacher though — kept up a great pace throughout the 2 hours, switched between different activities to keep our attention, and assigned a reasonable amount of homework. She kept a really good energy going the entire time — no small feat at 7pm, with a room full of people tired from a long day of work!
Even though it was an Introductory Bootcamp, it did seem like you’d need to have a vague understanding of Spanish or other Latin/​Romance languages, like French or Italian. The people who didn’t have any foreign language experience were beyond lost, and many of them didn’t come back after the first bootcamp session. Those of us who have had some exposure to Spanish or had taken previous language classes did much better with the speed of the course.
I appreciated the emphasis on speaking and listening rather than trying to become fluent in writing. The building is near the Downtown Crossing station. I’d take another class here if a coupon or deal becomes available. Not sure I’d be willing to pay full price for this short of a class, but for those just beginning their studies, it was a great intro/​refresher!
