ZERO STARS I was highly disappointed by the quality of overall service that we received with the price we pay per visit from Gopher Dogs. I have never had the occasion to complain about anyone’s services in the past and in view of such a good track record, but the service has from Gopher Dogs been a big letdown. My experience dates back to 2012, but in looking to review my current sitter, I came across this and feel compelled to comment.
Firstly, our mail was never brought in at anytime while we were out. This resulted in an overstuffed mailbox with important mail crushed, an annoying issue for small mail boxes in Southie. More concerning, we have an alarm, which we rely on to protect our home while we are away, and our alarm history showed that our house was left unarmed for 2 ½ days. This is very unsettling, especially when the alarm was disarmed later in the evening on a day that was after the sitter had already visited.
The response I received after voicing these concerns was that Gopher Dogs offers to take in the mail for [their] clients that are away, but only when «requested by the client.» … really? Even though they had taken it up before their change in ownership? As for the alarm issue… The response was winded and filled with excuses, but overall, the conclusion said the following:
«In conclusion, I think that this was all just because we had a lot of new sitters covering due to the holiday weekend. Our regular full-​time walkers were rewarded the weekend off and our substitutes covered. They are all well trained and knew specifically what to do but they had never covered for [your pet]. This comes up time to time but there is really nothing we can do about it… It seems these problems only existed due to multiple people covering visits.»
I would suggest that Gopher Dogs coach their new hires in the proper handling of their customer’s property and following directions, for their behavior does not reflect positively on Gopher Dogs.
After further communication, I received this comment via email, «Due to past concerns we feel it is best that you look into hiring another company for [your pet’s] care.» DONE

These guys are great and help me a ton with my three little mutts. They are extrememly flexible and always willing to assist with last minute requests and allow me to cancel on short notice when I no longer need walks (saving me some money).
They’ve also been able to assist me when I have gone away for 3 – 4 days for work. They would come by once early in the morning to feed/​walk my dogs, another midday vist for a walk/​checkup and then once again a final visit at night to feed/​walk.
Overall, I highly recommend.

After years of amazing service from Gopher Dogs I can’t believe I am just now getting around to writing a review. I’ve used Gopher dogs for over 3 years for my black lab Layla. She was a rescue puppy and very shy and scared for the first few months and Gopher dogs was great because they gave her personal attention and individual walks. Jacqui our primary walker is fantastic– she always was willing to walk Layla around our schedule and to even give her extra long walks on nice, sunny days. Layla always got super excited when we would run into Jacqui in Southie on the street. I truly believe using Gopher dogs helped our dog before a more social and accustomed dog after a rough beginning to her life and would highly recommend them.

Gopher Dogs isn’t just for the dogs! I was looking for a cat sitter a few months ago and stumbled across Gopher Dogs. I don’t know about all you cat owners out there but it seems really hard to find a cat sitter! Anyways, I liked their website and their process, so I requested service for an upcoming trip out of town. Almost immediately I received an email from Kelli, the owner, to coordinate a time for the cat sitter to come over, meet my cat, see my apartment and learn how i care for my cat, feed him, play with him etc. Jacqui, my cat sitter, was so wonderful, you can tell she just loves animals and my cat responded to her right away… which is kinda rare!
I have now used Gopher Dogs several times and I could not be happier. My cat always seems happy and content when i come home, like he barely missed me! The online diary is a great touch, it’s nice to check in to see what’s been going on with your furry friend while you’re away. Also, you book appointments online, you pay online (they can save your CC info so they just automatically charge you after the service, SUPER convenient), it’s just so great and easy.
I’m sure their dog walking/​sitting services are just as wonderful, but for all you cat owners out there, Gopher Dogs is the way to go!

I have been using Gopher dogs for a little over a month and Emily has been fantastic! My puppy is a handful and she is patient and sweet with him. Both she and Kellie (who books the walks and handles billing) are really responsive, flexible and professional and I could not be happier or feel more confident that my puppy is happy and well taken care of!

Meredith from Gopher Dogs is amazing. You can tell she really cares about her clients and their pets. She is a dog owner as well. She fills out a daily journal so that you can read how the walk went each day. Online payment is easy. Highly reccommend.

I have only been using Gopher Dogs for two weeks, but I have been really impressed so far! I have a puppy and contacted Kellie at Gopher about having someone come by twice a day. They actally have a twice a day service designed specifically for puppies! Kellie was very responsive especially since I needed someone right away. I also was not able to bring my puppy home until the weekend and Kellie was able to coordinate with one of the walkers to come and meet with me on a Sunday. I met the walker and I immediately felt a connection and felt that my new puppy would be in good hands. Nicole has been great with Marshall over the past couple weeks and sends me text message updates every time they hang out. I know that he is having fun and getting out during the day. I wish I could be home every day with Marshall but I can’t and at least I know my new family member will not be stuck in a cage all day with out any interaction. I highly recommend Gopher Dogs!

We’ve been really happy with Gopher Dogs — if we weren’t moving, we’d keep using them! Meredith walked our dog a few times a week and was just wonderful. I was worried that with a dog walking service I would be paying for a 30 minute walk, but they’d skimp on it. I have to say that I really don’t think that was the case with Gopher Dogs. I could tell what days Meredith came because we always had a tired pooch by the end of the day! We train our dog pretty aggressively, and were delighted that Meredith was committed to upholding the training regimen — she actually attended a dog training class with us at her request! Very impressive. She was easy to communicate with over email, too. The very best part, and the thing I thought would be pretty cheesy, was the online dog diary. I loved reading Meredith’s entries, written from our dog’s perspective, about their walks. So cute.

I’ve been using gopher dogs for over 2 years now and I have nothing but rave reviews. My dog Rori loves her walker Jacqui! I’m a nurse and rotate days/​nights, work weekends/​holidays and they are always able to accommodate. I wouldn’t use anyone else.

Great for cat sitting, always reliable and responsive. Been using their services for 2 years now without any problems. Online pet diaries are greatly appreciated. A+++

I have been using Gopher Dogs Boston cat sitting services for about a year. I have 2 cats and I know that they are always very well taken care of when we go away. I love the ease of scheduling online and payment is simple. The diaries are hilarious and fun to read.

I am very happy with my experience with Gopher Dogs. I have two spoiled cats who need special attention, and Gopher Dogs definitely delivered. I called the a few weeks in advance of my trip out of town and they promptly set up a consultation with Rodney. I was wary of giving my apartment keys to a stranger who showed up at our door, but he did a great job with the consultation and I handed them over.
Rodney is very professional and friendly. He sent us a message the first night we were gone which was very reassuring. My cats were happy when we got home. We also really love the online journal of the visit. Both my husband and I felt that Rodney really captured both cat’s personalities in just a few sentences.
Gopher Dogs are super convenient, allowing payments and service to be processed online or by phone. They also respond very quickly to email. The customer service is top-​notch.

It was a long and arduous search, finding a dog walker for Starka. For starters, I couldn’t find any companies servicing Dorchester. On top of that, I couldn’t really find a company that was comfortable with my pit-​bull mix, or could offer her an individual walk. And seemingly out of nowhere, I found Gopher Dogs.
Our service has been really terrific. We started with Lindsey who was terrific and flexible. And since Lindsey’s gone on to become an EMT, we have Rodney now and he is THE BEST. Like any good service professional, they make you wish you could afford it more often. Rodney writes really fun updates from Starka-dog’s walks, and he’s really great at handling my (vicious killing machine) baby.
Gopher Dogs management is top notch too! I love that everything is done online — billing, scheduling, and Kelly is just an email away all the time.

So far, I am VERY impressed with Gopher Dogs. I needed a daily dog walker ASAP. I contacted Kelly via email today in the afternoon and had an appointment with the co-​owner Chris and my dog walker Jessica to meet my dog at 630p same day! How fantastic is that!!! I am RELIEVED that I do not have to stress about my baby being alone all day while I am at work… phew! YAY GOPHER DOGS!!!

I can not say enough about Gopher Dogs and our dog walker, Jacqui. She is just the sweetest, most loving, and caring dog lover ever. Everyday she has our dog, Henry, write us a note on-​line in his dog diary so we can see how the daily walk went (Jacqui writes the note, but it is from Henry’s point of view.) We absolutely love hearing about their daily adventure, who they run into, where they went, etc. It is kind of like Henry’s own blog. Henry just adores Jacqui too, he talks about her all the time.
The company is on top of every request and responds to emails and phone calls within hours. There is on-​line payment services and we get a weekly email with our payment statement. It is extremely convenient and really leaves us less time to worry about paying the dog walker and gives us more time with our dog. Speaking of payment the company charges the same as other dog walkers in the neighborhood that do not offer an on-​line dog diary or on-​line payment.
Look no further because no one will care for your pet better then the Gopher team!
