Geoffrey’s Cafe

I like the ambiance of the restaurant, but am always disappointed by the food and the service.
I met some friends for dinner at Geoffrey’s this week. The location was not my choice. I had the Beef Bourgignon, as it was called, and it was nothing like real Beef Bourgignon. It was a pretty tasteless stew with lots of tomato in it, and probably no wine. It came with bland mashed potatoes. Weird combination .
The waitress forgot the butter I asked for, and forgot another person’s drink. She also disappeared most of the time, so we couldn’t even find her to flag her down.
The restaurant really took away from our evening.
This was not the first bad experience I have had here either. Another time I got a cup of coffee so old and burnt that I couldn’t even drink it.
I have also never had a dessert there that was that great. I don’t even bother to look at the dessert menu anymore.
I really, really don’t like this place and I have no idea why my friend picks it. I think it’s just because he’s gay and the restaurant has catered to the gay community for a long time.

My husband and I went to Geoffrey’s for dinner on Fat Tuesday. I loved their menu, lots to choose from and very reasonably priced for Back Bay. It’s mostly burgers, sandwiches, salads, flatbread pizzas, and some entrée selections like chicken, pasta, etc.
We both really enjoyed the atmosphere. Dark wood, classy but not stuffy. We went early, around 5:30 p.m., and the bar was busy already but the dining room was not. It was close to full when we left a few hours later.
Our server, Josh, could not have been more pleasant, helpful and timely. When we asked, he suggested some of their more popular items and seemed very knowledgable about the menu.
I ordered two martinis, one mango and one blueberry, both delicious and beautiful. And strong! Upon our server’s recommendation, we ordered the mozzarella cheese sticks as an appetizer. They are definitely unique, very large, with a nice crispy breading — definitely worth trying! We were both very happy with our food, and would recommend the sweet potato fries.
We will certainly go to Geoffrey’s again, and already have it in mind for some out-​of-​town guests who we think will appreciate the diverse menu, warm setting, and friendly prices.

Geoffrey’s is the perfect after-​work drink/​app stop before heading home. The service is attentive and not pushy. It is never overcrowded on a weekday evening. They have one of the best, if not the best, cocktail lists in the area. The Geoffrey’s Cosmo is phenomenal (this coming from a non-​cosmo person). I’ve had several other cocktails as well, all very tasty. The bartenders have a unique way to balance the alcohol with other ingredients so you are not overwhelmed.
As an aside, the mozzarella sticks are fantastic — if they weren’t so calorie loaded I would honestly have one every day. If you try them, you will understand.

I was happy with my dinner at Geoffrey’s. The outside and the inside don’t match — from the outside I thought Geoffrey’s was going to be a dingy diner, but inside it’s dark, modern and spacious!
For dinner I ordered the BLT, which was pretty good (piled with bacon) and the dark n’ stormy, made with «Geoffrey’s own ginger beer». Not sure what that means! Our service was pretty good, nothing too special, but good enough.
I’d probably return if I was in the area and am intrigued by the «disco» Sunday brunch despite the negative reviews. Hmm.

I’ve only been here for the Sunday brunch, but it was an enjoyable experience.
I had a hankering for biscuits and gravy on a cold December morning. Geoffrey’s was one of the few places that had biscuits and gravy listed on its menu.
I was warmly greeted and shown a comfortable seat. The menu was diverse enough to please just about anyone. I ordered, of course, the biscuits and gravy and a side of scrambled eggs. I received my meal in a timely fashion. The biscuits were good, and the gravy, while not the best nor the worst I’ve ever had, was filled with chunks of sausage, just the way it should be.
I’m only in Boston once or twice a year, but I would definitely plan to stop by here again.

Great sunday brunch experience here. Like others have said, the food is nothing spectacular, but it’s good. and if you factor in the price, it’s fantastic. I left having paid under 15 $ (including a 20% tip) for an omelet, homefries, generous portion of toast, and a pretty good OJ.
Also, Sundays they play fun disco music which is definitely fun. I loved their décor – a mix of warm yet trendy. Awesome bathroom! bubble gum pink with very cute feminine furniture. loved it!
So yeah, you definitely get more than what you pay for here. no complaints.

This review is for the «disco» brunch on Sunday. Overall the experience was disappointing for food and service and positive for prices and location. If you don’t mind the food too much, it’s a good place for Sunday brunch.
Menu is nothing special; eggs, pancakes, omelettes, disco music makes this a «disco brunch. I was hoping for at least see some creative names on the menu.
WHAT I LIKED: You can have a mimosa with breakfast. Great location. Nice and comfortable. Reasonable. prices
WHAT I DISLIKED: Service was BAD. Our waiter was polite but obviously inexperienced. We had to look for him several times for pancake syrup, cream, coffee refills; he disappeared once he brought our food. The waffles are bad, thinner than a pancake, chewy and cold. They looked like they took them out of the freezer and reheated them in the micro. Menu description makes them sound like something really special but save yourself some pain and order something else.

I just returned from brunch here, and I have great things to say. Even though the hostess was reluctant to seat me since I had just finished my run and I was a bit… damp, the waiter was upbeat and friendly once I sat down.
The food we ordered was excellent. My partner-​in-​crime had biscuits & gravy, and I had their ham and cheese omelet. I’m a big eater, especially after a run, and I left there with a doggy bag of a little bit of everything from what I had ordered.
The drinks were also cheap and delicious. The Bloody Mary was exactly how other reviewers described it as: spicy and delicious. The mimosa was also made very well; they do not skimp on the champagne.
Overall we had a great time. It’s a trendy atmosphere where crowds of all sorts are welcome, including sweaty folk… after you bypass the hostess it seems. This is a place that I will take my parents to when they visit.

My girlfriend and I went there for their Sunday «disco brunch» (eating brunch to disco music) which turned out to be a fun idea. It was a very quiet crowd and the mood seemed pretty dull.
We had the shrimp cake eggs Benedict and the breakfast burrito. The food was good, nothing special but the potatoes were very dry, hard and over cooked.
I ordered a side of biscuits (I was torn between the buiscuits and gravy for my meal) and when I asked for a little sausage gravy on the side the waitress told me «we can’t do that» it was something I was really looking forward to and even though I was willing to pay extra again she said she couldn’t. Where I’m from you do whatever the customer wants to make them happy.

Came here for their disco brunch this morning after a bike ride. The food was exactly what I was looking for. The café is tucked away on Berkeley Street.
I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon and my friend ordered the Scandinavian waffles which were delicious! The hollandaise sauce was thick and very rich in flavor. The portions were just right too, usually at breakfast spots I become so full so fast. The waffles were thin and served with blueberry jam and whipped cream.
The drinks were also great. I ordered an Mimosa for 5 bucks which is reasonable in comparison to other brunch spots. My friend ordered a hot and spicy bloody mary which I though was better then the mimosa.
Service was okay, nothing to dislike or like about it.

Ate here for the first time yesterday, dinner before drinks next door at Club Café. I’m not really a fan of the French version of my name … or the French. :) JUST KIDDING :)
What a little gem. Introduced to me by a good friend who likes good food but not high prices, this works well! Especially in Boston!
I had Buffalo Chicken Queisadias and a really good drink … called … ummm … My Kraken something. Its a lot of peach and pineapple mixed liquor and it was yum. YUMMY.
My friend had Pepperjack Mac & Cheese, which he raved about. He also had another awesome martini. You would think I’d pay attention to the types, but alls i know was, it looked amazing.
The service was okay. The server was like Mo Rocca (from Comedy Central) met Screech. Maybe he was having a bad time. It wasn’t terrible service, but it wasn’t what I“d expect on a rather slow Saturday night.
Overall, we paid $ 35 for the both of us.

What a delight!
I went to Geoffrey’s for the first time on Thursday, 4÷5÷2012, and was not disappointed.
Initially, the plan was to go to Parish Café on Boylston Street, but I was overwhelmed by the long wait for a table. My buddy suggested we trot on over to GC for a great time (and that it was). We stopped in around 5:30 p.m. and it was not crowded, but as we sat for a few hours, we saw the place get busier.
I’d feel foolish by starting the review off without talking about the staff. I have never been to a restaurant (that may be a far fetched statement) where the staff is super friendly. Alternatively, it was really neat to see regular customers come in and greet the bartenders. However, does that mean the South End is filled with drunks? Maybe.
The food was delicious! I opted for a pear and (insert name of cheese) ravioli which, friends, I can’t even begin to describe how great it was.
I was highly disappointed (hence the lack of 5-​star ratings) by the lack of beer on draught. I would’ve been even more disappointed if they didn’t have Sam Alpine Spring (have you guys tried it? If not, do it now. Seriously, now) but the waiter found a few extra bottles in the back.
Overall, this was a great experience. If you’re looking for a relaxed, yet enjoyable, atmosphere, give this place a shot.

I came across Geoffrey’s Café on Unilocal and got really excited to try their «Disco Brunch.» Well it’s a bit different than what I was expecting. The only «disco» part about it is that they play 60s/​70s music really faintly in the background.
Food was pretty good. I got an omelet that came with yummy home fries. I also tried the turkey sausage that seemed like they came out of a frozen package.
All in all a good brunch but nothing to write home about.

Went back with my gym group, 7 PM on a Tuesday.
I think there were 8 of us, and it was delicious!
I got the gnocci but with red sauce, a side salad, and onion rings.
Most of the group ordered burgers or sandwiches. Everyone loves the onion rings and the spinach dip (which I did not try)
I also ordered a «Walk of Shame» which was a Prosecco with strawberry purée… quite tasty!
The waiter was really good, and even though they accidentally put cheese on my gnocci, they fixed it really quickly!
Much better experience this time.

A seemingly popular brunch spot in Back Bay… perhaps the savory dishes are good b/​c the sweet ones looked so much better than they tasted.
French Toast — mediocre. I was very excited when it arrived on a piping hot plate with sweet griddled goodness wafting to my nose, only to be disappointed by blandness. It was doughy, eggy and in need of a good deal of syrup. I’m guessing it was the cheap HFCS-​laden kind b/​c it sure didn’t taste homemade or like real maple syrup.
Scandinavian Waffles — some softness to them with firm notes of nutmeg, but the texture got old very quickly and required liquid sugar to keep my palate interested.
Geoffrey’s Famous DonutMuffin — the best (or least bad) thing of the meal. Too heavy-​handed with the butter though.
The atmosphere and service were both pretty good, but the food just wasn’t there. Neither my bro nor I finished our dishes and it wasn’t because we were full… too bad.

I had a good time here twice before when I came for food and cocktails with some friends. So when the planner of my birthday party asked for suggestions, I chose Geoffrey’s since the restaurant was close to our after-​dinner venue. The service hadn’t been spectacular before (and both times the bartender appeared drunk). But the prices are reasonable and the food is somewhat memorable.
We placed the reservation at this restaurant for 7 o’clock on Saturday October 15^th.
The night was planned with a «pirate theme» in the spirit of the season (Yarr!). The intention, of course, that we’d get a nice meal and then head off into the city to enjoy ourselves.
I had been informed that the restaurant was capable of taking larger groups, which you wouldn’t suspect judging upon how we were received. Our server seemed not only unenthusiastic and dull, but also completely confused by any questions regarding the menu. Even with support staff hawking our table he seemed inattentive, preoccupied and… bitchy?
After my party of 16 had ordered and eaten, the owner of the restaurant decided to flicker the lights above our table as if to say, «last call for drinks.» (At 8:30) He then walked past the table exclaiming «BLLARRRRRRG,» put on his jacket, and went out the front door.
I find his behavior completely out of line. If we had been loud or disruptive, it would have been appropriate to politely ask us to be quiet or leave. However, since we had only been courteous and polite the entire night, I can only attest it to him thinking our costumes were of poor taste. I apologize if you think our costumes have tarnished your restaurant’s «pretentious allure.» But I assure you; class is defined also by how you conduct yourself. I suspect any loyal cliental at Geoffrey’s is as unaware and lacking of substance as our server was. So I digress…
I don’t usually post anything on this site. I am not a critic, by any means.
But I will not again waste my money here.
Not only is the service lackluster, but also the owner is rude and ungrateful. Stick to restaurants you know, where the money you’re spending is helping the lives of people who aren’t so bottom-​barrel. Substance is key.
Luckily, the rest of my birthday evening was a hit, and sufficient enough to take from the blow I felt from how much of a displeasing experience I had at dinner.

I was a bit hesitant to return to Geoffrey’s because i fondly remember it from back in the day when it was in the South End (the 2^nd incarnation of… 5 difference locations now! Way to survive!) I didn’t want to mess with my happy memories of many meals and brunches there back when the South End was really a gayborhood, and this was THE place to hang out.
What i found was just what I’d remembered from the early 90s — Really well done comfort food, Nothing innovative, just what so many places strive to do and don’t get quite right.
If you are old enough /​been in Boston long enough, you’ll remember the original restaurant in this space The Blue Wave, and it feels more like that than the uneven Laurel who was here for years.
The place is a bit dim (due to dark walls) and still feels a little too wide open (some banquettes would help) But when the food is good, and the people friendly, that’s a minor quibble.
As for service, I won’t ding them for this, but they were slammed with a post-​Pride block party crowd on what i’m sure is a normal quiet Sunday night but our waiter was a little flighty about where we were in our meals (asking «now are you all done» before we got our entrees) but he was but nice enough.
Again, if the food wasn’t good and the people nice, I could have alot of complaints about the place, but they just seem to put me in a place where i’m willing to overlook any stumbles — and I AM a very critical diner.
I had the chicken saltimboca (which didn’t seem to have any of the promised procuitto — it was more like chicken picatta.) Misnamed or not, it was delicious and totally satisfying. Again, not innovative, just well done.
The apps we shared (fried mozzarella and grilled sausage with grain mustard and caramelized balsamic onions) were similarly well done versions of classics that can be «meh» done without the care they put in here.
Overall, I was expecting less than I got, so was pretty happy!

A great spot for a really amazing meal at awesome prices. Was staying at the Back Bay Hotel and stumbled across this place because it was close and cheap and I was heading out earlier that day.
Oh man, how I wish I could have extended my trip just to eat here again and again. It’s «American» with a twist, they have a great variety of different dishes and everyone will find something they love here.
I had the Veggie Couscous and it was phenomenal. The rest of my group had a turkey melt, the lasagna, and a panini. We all started with the tomato soup, which is literally the best tomato soup I have ever had in my life. The soup is a must-​try if you’re here.
All of the ingredients taste super fresh and you can tell they care a lot about quality here. Really cute ambiance inside… tons of space for larger parties too. I hear their brunch is awesome and will definitely try to do that when I get back to Boston.
Service was great too. Definitely hit this place up.

My friend Marcus and I were flying together on our trip to Boston and he suggested that we eat at this place for dinner.
I’m glad he did because the menu was fabulous, the service was excellent and the food was memorable.
I ordered a cup of Tomato Basil Soup with croutons and Parmesan and shared the Eggplant Milanese Appetizer with Marcus. For our entrees, I got the 7 Vegetable Cous Cous and Marcus ordered the Spinach & Mushroom Lasagna, All of them were savory and totally scrumptious.
The restaurant seems to draw a mixed crowd. Young and old, professionals and casual diners due to its location. Really close to high end stores, charming brownstones and tree lined avenues.
I really like this place and their ambiance. It’s also different enough from standard fare that I would consider going.
Next time I’m going to order the Spinach & Mushroom Lasagna. I tried a little bit of it and I really like the tarragon sauce and the shaved Parmesan.
I could tell Marcus was a happy camper. He finished his plate clean and didn’t leave a morsel.

4 stars for the fun, delicious drinks. 3 stars for the slow, forgetful service.
To be fair, it was a Saturday night (early though) at 9pm and our party of 6 was literally «forgotten» of the 3 times we spoke to someone about the drinks menu. One of us had to remind someone twice to bring her wine. However, all our servers were really friendly though, just overworked! I can only say that the owner of this place needs to HIRE MORE PEOPLE to work on Saturday nights!
The drink I got was fabulous! It was the St. Germaine Fizz. If you are not a fan of bitter beer but sweet cocktails are over the top for you, then this is the drink for you! It’s like sweeter champagne… for the price of $ 5.50. Can’t beat that!

Visited Geoffrey’s in their new back Bay location and we were not disappointed! They’ve transferred the ambiance and low-​key classy design to this new space, albeit without the lovely patio. RIP, Roslindale location with your awesome patio, you will be missed.
Went for brunch today and got something new– the Deep Dish Quiche. Got the veggie version which had carrots, zucchini and peppers all shredded with cheese and egg and it was delicious! Also got a Donutmuffin to share and man, it was GOOD. Better than I remembered it.
My friends also enjoyed the highly affordable mimosa menu. I was not feeling up to it (headache) or I would have enjoyed a Liz Taylor: Prosecco, blackberry liquer and curacao. YUM. My friend enjoyed her Walk of Shame; I believe it had strawberry purée.
Geoffrey’s is very affordable, especially for a Back bay location. The service was great and I’ll definitely be back sooner now that they’re closer!
