Located across the street from Stork Laundry, EVS is a tiny little mom-and-pop shop that offers typical convenience store goodies + lotto as well as key services and Richie’s Italian Ice. My boyfriend and I stumbled across here on our way home from a late lunch at Salsa’s. During our walk, we saw several people holding cups piled high with colorful ice scoops and made a beeline for EVS after seeing a poster for ITALIANICE in the doorway — an absolutely fantastic idea! I highly suggest stopping in during a hot day for a cup of Richie’s Italian Ice(still sold out of Richie’s Classic Italian Slush store in Everett, MA). It is only $ 1.75 for a small, which is just enough to be refreshing, especially after a full belly of mexican fare. They offer several flavors: lemon, mango, watermelon, blue raspberry, and cotton candy. My boyfriend got lemon and I got mango. Both were delicious, but lemon was definitely the star. It tasted extremely lemony and a little tart with a perfect frozen consistency, whereas the mango was a little too sweet and started to melt halfway home(it is currently in my freezer). The Asian couple(who I assume own the store) are very friendly(you may just be greeted with a «Happy Friday!»). You can see the owner easily, as his office area is conveniently located behind the counter in the back corner — ha! As we continued our walk home, I noticed Andrew Square Convenience(right down the street from my apartment!) also offers Richie’s Italian Ice. I’ve never actually been inside, but I’d head to EVS just to see the sweet owners once again. It is much more pleasant being greeted with a smile compared to the snarky looks I receive at some local convenience stores(yes, Tedeschi, that is mostly referring to you) — worth the extra walk!
