Elite Event: The Circus Comes To Towne

if i suggested we put a girl on stilts and surround her with a crowd of Unilocalers and free vodka… it might sound like, secretly, i want to kill a girl on stilts.
i kept envisioning accidental fire, but it didn’t come to that. damien put on a spectacular show, and lydia and jasper were the picture of hospitality, serving up their delicacies, side by side, and chatting with all the guests.
i’ve been a fan of towne for a while now, but with the whole Unilocal crowd, the sumptuous treats, and the acrobats– i was positively dazzled!
the maple angel food cake and the peking birdies are just two tiny reasons to head back over to towne for more fun on my own! :]

i WANT TO RUN AWAY AND JOIN THE CIRCUS. Except I’m frightened of clowns (blame the movie IT), so scratch that.
But this event was, in one word, killer. We got to sample scrumptious desserts, moist, tender chicken, eat bags and bags of popcorn, cotton candy, and popsicles… and Towne was the perfect venue for this. Spacious and beautiful, large enough to fit the massive photo machine and acrobatic performers doing crazy splits and moves that would make cheerleaders squirm.
We even learned to do tricks with balls (yea yea, «that’s what she said»), but being the Unilocalers/​proud fatties we are, of course had a ball in one hand and a chicken drumstick in the other. The performers were a lot of fun and pretty cool about teaching us 1% of their craft. Note: small hands, big glass ball = not happening.
Um, can we do this every week?

Being a Unilocal Elite scored me some major points this week.
My girlfriend has just commented that a friend had raved about Towne and how much she wanted to try it. The next day I get the word from On High (Damien) that I’m in for the Elite event at Towne. Major points credited to my account shortly thereafter.
The event itself was very well done and the Unilocal Elites were friendly and personable as usual. The rare steak was great, the Peking Chicken buns reminded my oh-​so-​slightly of the pork and chicken buns at Ippudo in NYC (adding some Japanese mayo might elevate them to equality) but there was one clear winner of the evening.
Lobster popovers.
The first one burned the crap out of my hand as I posed it for a photo. I took the pain gladly, because I knew I’d get to eat it after the photo was taken. Tongue scorched by said hot butter? Fine. TAKE THE PAIN! PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY! And in this case, lobster popover entering the body. A win/​win trade for me!
Another keeper was the caramel ice cream cones with Reese’s cups sprinkled on. I think I could have had ten of those (under the «there is always room for dessert» exception.)
We already tried to book a family dinner there for next month and failed, but we will definitely be back to sample Towne’s fare again.

I haven’t been to a Unilocal!event since I was pregnant (my son is now 18 months) what a way to come back.
Amazing food and drinks all night. I sat down and people kept coming over and offering me food. Everything had me drooling at the thought of more. I don’t think I’ve ever had so many food-​gasms in my life. I felt like a kid at the grown up circus.
The performers were fun to watch and I loved the photo booth. My +1 said «why have you never told me about these before and when you are bringing me to another one?»

OMG.

This was my second elite event, and I have to say that I was beyond impressed. I also brought a friend as my +1 to her first elite event, and she was definitely blown away.
Food: amazing. The oysters were delicious. The popcorn was delicious. The fried mashed potatoes were delicious. The wing sauce was delicious. The lobster popover was delicious. You get the point. The food kept coming and coming and I think my friend and I only had one food item we weren’t a huge fan of. It was definitely a great introduction to the food at Towne, and we’ll definitely be back for dinner.
Staff: awesome. Everybody was so sweet and helpful. One even asked me how he could start getting involved with Unilocal!
Drinks: strong and delish as always. And the bartenders in the back room were my favorite, especially the girl! (I forget her name, though!)
Entertainment: beyond amazing. The photo booth was a blast. The cute girls on stilts, the male/​female couple and the hula hoop girl were all pretty badass. And the guy who did crazy things with a silver ball tried to teach my friend and I how to do it– unfortunately, we were a bit too drunk to be successful, and our balls just flew and rolled everywhere. It was harder than it looks!
On top of that, Jasper White and Lydia Shire were sweethearts. It was such a privilege to meet them both. I didn’t expect them to be so approachable and friendly! They should be really proud of the way the event went last night (as should Damien!).

Great welcome set up through the Hynes Convention Center which allowed us shivering early birds to come in out of the cold while we waiting for Towne to finish getting ready for us.
It was delightful to be personally served peking chicken wraps by Towne’s very own Lydia Shire and Jasper White, and to have staff members remember that we were the hungry bunch asking about the lobster popovers and the truffled lobster mac & cheese, and as a result being specially served a fresh order of lobster popovers, and being informed that unfortunately the mac & cheese was replaced by some other dish.
In other words, service was great, food was great — particularly the butter drenched lobster popovers, the tater tots, hot dogs in their toasted buns, the peking chicken, the wagyu beef when cooked just right, the crisp curried cauliflower turnovers, the luscious ice creams (vanilla and caramel) and their fragile waffle cones, and the peanut butter brittle. Hmmm… that was almost everything!
The circus people seemed to come out of the woodwork after the initial edge of my hunger was tamed. Most obvious from our little corner was the slim little lady with her two hoops, although I also later spotted the stilt walker who happily posed for pictures, and the juggler and his red balls. We also stopped to wait our turn at the photo booth, which was stocked up with silly glasses and hats, and where we were provided with brief yet helpful instructions preceding our photo shoot. What fun!
