After reading a review by Tony C in the waiting room I realized I was getting overcharged. I came in Saturday morning to get my oil changed and after not seeing any prices I asked how much it would cost. The price started out somewhere above $ 100 for full synthetic. Then it became $ 99.
I asked about the review Tony wrote and the price quoted for him being 89.95. After asking if the prices had changed and being told no it was always 99 I was told to call in Monday and talk to the boss, which I plan to do.

Situation: Oil Change, Full Synthetic
Cost: $ 89.95
— Seemed a bit steep,
— Considering I usually do this myself, the oil is under $ 30 and filter is $ 8 for a ‘premium’ filter, not the $ 3-​$ 6 ones they use.
— I brought in my own filter, so the price was reduced to $ 79.95 which I appreciated, but I still thought was steep.
— Listen I’m old school, I love a garage you can count on, but not having any pricing or signs anywhere is a little bit too old school for me.
PROS: they committed to a time I could bring it by (during lunch) and do it, which no other place in Southie would do so hey, that’s worth the extra couple bucks! Thanks guys!
Cons: I think their synthetic oil change pricing is high (I researched it, it is basically the highest), however in a pinch it is what it is! So that’s that.
Service: very good, nice guys, did what they said when they said they’d do it.
FEEDBACK: If you are going to charge a premium for an oil change, offer to rotate the tires like the other places do? Just a thought.

Looked at a BMW M3 for sale here. Costas and George were very helpful. Car was in great shape and priced reasonably. They have a good selection of pre owned European cars and SUVs. Worth a look if your in the market for a decent car.

Great shop! Joe is friendly and no-​nonsense when it comes to car maintenance. Prices are very reasonable, quick turnaround, couldn’t ask for more. The shop is an easy walk to/​from the Broadway T stop, which makes it very convenient for me to drop my car off, go to work, and pick it up at the end of the day. Highly recommend E+S.

I brought my car here for an oil change a few weeks ago and got a call saying that my rear brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced and it would be roughly $ 350. I was told that I had 500 miles left on them. Since I had only 20,000 miles on my car at the time and didn’t hear them grinding whatsoever, I chose to hold off and get a second opinion from my mechanic back in my hometown.
Well, good thing I did! My mechanic’s words were «I would love to take your money, but these do not need to be replaced.» I then asked him how many miles he thought I have left on them. His answer was 10 THOUSAND.
Perhaps because I had New York plates or because I was a young female E & S Auto thought they could pull a fast one on me. Nice try. Since this garage is so convenient to where I work I would have been a repeat customer but will now never return or recommend this garage to anyone.

Joe is a good guy and very trustworthy. He is a straight shooter and tries to find the best way to save you the most amount of money and go out of his way to accommodate you. His prices are reasonable, quality of his services are great and its always a fast turnaround. I moved from Southie to the Back Bay 2 years ago and still go out of my way to use his services.

Joe was in a situation where he could have made a profit, but instead worked with us and got us to where we needed to be. Thanks for the help with the starter Joe, we got home safe and really appreciate it.
We found him straightforward and honest. If I ever had car trouble again in the area, I will remember Joe.

I, too, don’t know why anyone would give E&S a bad review. I’ve been here a couple of times now — only for oil changes — and they are incredibly polite and did the changes while I waited. The last time when the car was on the lift they showed me that I needed new brakes. I already knew this but we are buying a new car soon. He told me it would be OK to drive it in the meantime since it would be only a couple of months and what to watch for. I also had a discussion with about his opinions of different cars we are considering purchasing. He did all this and I know he was really busy.

If I could leave zero stars, I would.
I brought my vehicle in for a quick estimate/​tune up appraisal. Guy was nice. Shook hands. Said he’d check it out. I know quite a bit about cars, so as a woman, I am ready to not be screwed over. Unfortunately, he tried anyways.
Not only did he charge $ 45 to read the meter on my car (takes less than 30 sec), but then he said I needed another $ 145 diagnostic test done. So ~$ 200 worth of «work» wo any repairs made?! When I calmly asked him to explain on phone and mentioned that I had been to auto zone and had already read meter, he became incredibly upset by my use of the word «auto zone» and started yelling at me. I then calmly asked him to lower his voice and that I would be in shortly to grab my keys.
When I then went in 30 min later to retrieve my vehicle, I plainly told him that this is not the way to conduct business, let alone speak to a woman. He then raised his voice at me again, even w another gentleman in his office. I will not tolerate this type of behavior and will never be back here, recommend here, nor believe that they have any sort of ethics backing their business.
On the other hand, I HIGHLY recommend Southie Auto on Old Colony — they are awesome, so friendly, and really helped me out. Thanks Southie Auto! 5 stars to you!

I’ve lived in South Boston for 6 years now and this is the only place I’ll go for car inspections. As a young woman, it’s intimidating to go to an auto shop and this place always makes me feel at ease. Everyone is pleasant, professional and efficient!!!

I had two VERY bad experiences with these folks. I needed a basic inspection and oil change and needed a place close to my apartment.
First: They did not change the sticker in my window for the oil mileage so I called a few days later when I noticed. They said it was a simple mistake and to add 3,000 miles to it and I would be fine. Just before my next oil change I started experiencing problems with my car and brought it in. IT WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL. They forgot to change my oil. I could care less about the $ 30 they charged me for but am even more upset that my car may have long term issues due to this!
Second: for my annual inspection they passed me and have me a sticker. Two weeks later my front tires began to wobble aggressively. I brought my car to GMC and they said the ball joints were so bad the tires could have fallen off at any moment. They said during an inspection this would have been impossible to miss. Thus, E&S must have just passed my inspection without actually doing a full inspection — very unsafe! The state of MA has been contacted and is looking into this.
I highly recommend to stay away.

I’m actually surprised there is a bad review of this place! I have taken my cars to Joe at E&S for years. First was a Beetle and now I have a Jetta (the Jetta is new, so there aren’t so many issues with it… yet). I can’t say enough good things about these guys. They are very fairly priced, professional and honest. They will explain in detail everything that was fixed or needs to be fixed. They treat their customers with respect and get the job done in a very timely manner. They have helped me out more times than I can count. I promise you won’t be disappointed with the customer service or the work that comes out of E&S!

Joe and his father? Took great care of me. I used to be a mechanic in a previous life, so I like to think I know what I’m talking about…
Anyhow they did a top notch job on my Honda. Checking the caliper and ensuring that there was little resistance. They grinded down the wear indicator a little bit to ensure no squeaks later on. And they were generous with anti*seize.
Highly recommended.

I took my car here to get inspected and it was great. The guy was friendly, quick, and it was open early (which was hard to find because apparently everything in Southie opens at 8:30, which if you’re trying to get to work on time, isn’t very convenient!). It was cash only, but there was an ATM there, which was easy enough. Took me about 5 – 6 minutes to get out of there, awesome!

I 100% agree with Mark, but it could possibly be because I recommended this mechanic to Mark’s lovely fiancée. :) I love E&S Auto, and am sad that I moved from the Boston area and no longer have a trusted mechanic. During my years in Boston, I had a 11 year old car that every now and then would require an extensive amount of work. The folks at E&S are 100% reliable, honest and provide more than fair pricing. As Mark stated they will explain every detail of what they are charging and why, and they’ll show you your old/​replaced parts and show you why it needed to be replaced. As a female, who doesn’t know much about cars, these are the guys to go to.

A good mechanic is hard to come by. I highly recommend Joe at E&S. He will always look at your car and call with an assessment before beginning any work. He will show you any parts he removed and the new ones he put in. Incredibly reasonable prices. Best mechanic ever.
