Deluca’s

Great variety in international things like cheese, sauces and coffee; love the location, very small and kind of cramped. The subs are great for a person who loves D&W’s deli, very fresh and flavorful, they do a great job packing them too. For the money it’s quite a steal honestly, the people are fairly nice and usually helpful.
My only annoyance is how outdated their store and technology is; had a bad experience where their machine broke mid-​transaction and caused an issue with my bank account. The manager (I’m assuming it was him.) was really unapologetic and frustrated he had to handle the situation and the cashier felt it was my fault, like I had a faulty card… Um, no? Been going here for years, never had that happen. After a few maddening attempts, they came to the conclusion the machine was busted and finally I was so frustrated I asked for a refund. I didn’t trust them, took too long and I had to show him my bank statement that I was charged at all. Like really? It was very uncomfortable showing my online banking to the entire staff; that’s cool.
Otherwise, mediocre experience. My note to the business owner: you’re on Newbury street, you offer great things, I can’t imagine why you’re not updating your business model a bit? Your machines are literally from the 90s; get with the times, most people pay via cards rather than cash, this shouldn’t be happening. I feel very uncomfortable and probably won’t be returning for a while, didn’t appreciate being treated strangely for something that wasn’t my fault.

Very nice staff. Alcohol section is downstairs and a great selection. The guy working was really nice.

Most food on Newbury St is either a sit down restaurant, a cupcake store, or a smoothie place for reasons unbeknownst to me. I was getting hungry walking around and decided to pop in and see if they had any snacks.
They had way more than that!
The deli in the back has tons of prepared food at a really great price – my oriental noodles was $ 3.50 for a half pound and was totally filling for my lunch craving.
They also had lots of great sandwich offerings made to order.
But my favorite part about this place is their specialty beverages wall.
I was in Scotland this summer and became obsessed with Belvoir Elderflower Pressè (it’s like a lightly flower flavored sparkling juice and it is DELICIOUS). I hadn’t seen it ANYWHERE since we got back, and I even ordered some on Amazon because I was so desperate to have it again.
Imagine my excitement to see the Rose Elderflower and Elderflower varieties on their shelves, in both the 750 mL bottle and the 8 oz. I bought 3 and I will fasho be back. The price wasn’t bad either. They also had tons of flavored tonic waters like lavender and others. Too cool
Try this market for a tasty snack if you’re not feeling like an expensive meal at a restaurant! They have lots of awesome stuff.

Could be awesome, but not. I waitied at the register for someone to take my money for several minutes and when he finally came he gave me attitude for whatever reason. There seems to be plenty of room for tables and chairs outside, but they haven’t picked up on that. It’s a little bit of a mess.

Newbury st. desperately needs a grocery store/​deli, and this is the closest it has to offer. The Sandwiches they make are good, but overpriced. In a nutshell this is a store with little selection, but is worth visiting if you didn’t bring a sandwich from home.

I used to buy some fruit here. Besides fruits and vegetables, there are a lot of different kind of food.
Inside you can find a lot of shelves, fully packed of things. There are two bars, so sometimes you need to pay attention where’s the cashier, and when it’s about to close some doors are closed.
Also there’s sitting outside in case you want to have a sandwich seated next to the sidewalk.
In last opening hours, some items are sold out. Quality is good but a bit pricey in my humble opinion.

Fun selection of food items but… have NEVER experienced such rudeness from workers! They are just plain crabby. Im always happy to see a new employee thinking they will be nicer. Not so! Avoid this place until they hire nicer workers.

Small market place with a variety of imported snacks and food. High prices but I like that thy have fresh sandwiches available made-​to-​order at the back.
Only downside (besides the prices) is that the SERVICE is horrible. The workers here act as if they have never worked with customers before and have absolutely no customer service skills. They don’t say hi, they just stare at you and its as if they don’t know how to do their job or how to talk to people. It’s kind of uncomfortable. Other than that, I stop by this place when I’m starving for a sandwich or some study snacks because the location is convenient.

Worst grocery shop! I have lived in Back Bay for five years and only stop in when I’m in a huge rush and need something. I was heading off to a weekend away and needed a yogurt, some fruit, and granola bars. I should have just gone hungry! The cashier’s response to my question of «Where do you keep the granola bars?» was «I don’t know» with a blank stare. Okkkkk. All of the fruit looked past due and after digging around for five minutes I found two nectarines that seemed decent. Got on my bus the very next morning, bit into the first, and it was completely rotten! Same thing with the second. I just bought them last night! Bleh. Really– never again!

A Newbury St. Institution! Best sandwiches from the Real Deli. It is a NY style bodega deli with classic setup and a wine cellar downstairs. Best lunch in town. Now carrying a selection of Alkaline Water — hot fitness trend. Try Saka Alkaline Water and get the big bottle at Deluca’s while you walk around Newbury St.

I love Deluca’s!!! They import from all over the world, have unique tastes, and the style is very old-​British. You can get fresh fruit, fresh pasta, olives, ice cream, candy, Charcuterie and the list goes on and on!
Best part is the imported candy! Delicious chocolate from England. And– they are almost always open. They also have a wine cellar in the basement!

I like this place because they have a little bit of everything. If you don’t mind paying for it, they have a great selection of cheese but they also have a variety of snack foods to rival a 7 – 11.

I want to like this adorable little local shop; I really do.
But then I go inside and remember why I can’t recommend it. The narrow shelves are packed to the gills with items, organized with very little rhyme or reason. It’s uncomfortable to move around, uncomfortable to wait in line, and uncomfortable to strain your neck looking for something.
And after that, it’s uncomfortable to pay when the prices are often 2x + what they would be in a normal market. The individuals who worked there were pretty un-​smiley /​unwilling to engage in conversation, too.
With all that said, some of the snacks look scrumptious and I’ve never tried the deli counter, so I can’t really comment on the quality of the prepared foods. I probably will not be back, though, given that the congestion in there is just too much for my taste.

I work in the Prudential Center and needed a different place to go to get lunch one day. A friend told me about Deluca’s and ever since I’ve been going here at least once a week. The bread the use is phenomenal and the deli meats are super fresh. I recommend the Italian but from what I hear you can’t go wrong with any of the sandwiches.

Really not a great super market, but the deli /​sandwiches are one of the best takeaway lunch options on Newbury.

Lines lines lines. What the fuck is up with this place? It took literally 45 minutes to get a salmon to go and pay. Why are there two separate lines and why do the prepared foods people wait in the same line as the sandwich people?
Awful experience but the food was fine at least. I would not go back here: overpriced, weird selection of things, and bad customer service. They also sell HUGE portions for prepared foods; last time I checked I didn’t want a 8.99 salmon that is 20 oz.
Go elsewhere.

Quaint space in this small-​town market in the big city on Boston’s famed Newbury Street. They pack a lot of variety here, for such confined space. Convenience store goods and reduced-​size products for nearby apartment dwellers running in for a quick something.
Great building with ample character, and you’re sure to find something unique in these tight aisles on terrifically creaky old floorboards. We picked up a Deluca’s brand Seedless Red Raspberry Jam that was quite good. Could not say the same for the sandwiches, unfortunately. Would not go there for sandwiches next time, especially when we know of outstanding ‘wiches just down the street at another non-​chain café.
Good enough for a stop-​in for any number of other snacks, though, and anytime we can support these long-​timers, we will.

This market reminds me of some of the «superettes» you find in NYC… small spaces with narrow aisles and jam packed with groceries and deli items.
I tend to come here when I have an appointment at my hair salon which is right across the street. I pop in for a bottle of sparkling water and maybe a little nosh like fruit or cheese. (My hair appointments can be long so I go prepared).
I suppose if I lived in the neighborhood I would be glad to have this market so conveniently located right in the midst of Newbury Street.
I could see this being a handy last minute option if a grocery item was needed in a hurry. But the prices are high so this is more of a pit stop and not a grocery shopping destination.
They do sell wine here which you’ll find by going downstairs and that is a convenience.
They have a deli counter too with a menu listing many kinds of sandwiches, assorted cold cuts and salads.
There is space outside with tables and chairs which might be pleasant if the tables weren’t practically falling apart. I did have a momentary sit-​down out there recently and the only charming thing about it was the incredibly tame and friendly sparrow who wanted me to share my cheese; a request I happily obliged.
I don’t find the staff to be at all friendly. Attempts at small talk at the register are typically ignored. The store itself a bit messy and overall the feel is that it may have seen better days.
This place is fine in a pinch and nothing more.

I was torn on this place. I was looking for a spot after shopping on Newbury St. where I could buy wine for dinner. This seemed to be one of the only spots.
It’s sort of dingy and packed to the gills with food! It took me a minute to figure out the wine cellar was in the basement, but once I got down there, I thought it was pretty cute… until I found that relatively popular wine varietals weren’t in stock… I was just looking for a pinot grigio since that’s what my sister requested… but there were hardly any! There were plenty unique wines and wines from many regions, but for some reason, Italian whites weren’t quite as well represented.
Prices were ok, but the selection seems somewhat haphazard.

It’s certainly a bit overpriced for a glorified gourmet bodega, but Deluca’s did carry the olives we were looking for, as well as a sizable selection of other edibles. The store is a bit cramped, and much more so because we had to navigate around a chocolate tour of some kind (they’ve got tons of Taza).
However, I’m particularly grateful because we desperately needed those olives. After all, it’s uncouth to get inappropriately drunk in front your family.
Unless you do it on martinis. Then it’s classy.
