Cosmic Run

I really dislike giving 1 star reviews but the Cosmic Run is totally deserving of the low ranking. To be brief, this is the worst event I’ve ever run, and I can’t even say it’s poorly organized because that would imply some level of things being in order. Running in the dark in uneven terrain is asking for a broken ankle and a lawsuit. Not to mention the stupid 15 year olds they had at the color stations pummeling people IN THE FACE with the color. GTFO. Pretty sure they’re going out of business if they haven’t already, but just in case I wanted to tell people to stay away from this catastrophe.

The concept of this is way up my alley. A nighttime run through an advanced light show getting messy with brilliant colors? Sign me up!
Unfortunately, almost everything about the event felt very half-​baked. The signage was poor. The path was uneven and hard to run on under any circumstances. The colored stuff was being distributed by helpers who completely ignored my friends and I (we had to help ourselves to the product in order to get colorful). And on top of that the lighted areas were very few and far between.
The concert at the end might have been worth staying for if most of the crowd hadn’t gone home, no doubt also at least somewhat disappointed, by the time my friends and I finished the race.
This was probably one of the greatest disappointments of the year and was definitely the biggest rip-​off I experienced all year. Considering it has several competitors around Boston, I’d stay away from this one.

It was a fun run, but not at all what was advertised. The course was just a dirt path with the occasional speaker system and lighting structure sparsely dispersed along the way. There wasn’t much else to it. It was supposed to be a 5K, but was more like a 3.7K from start to finish. If the event were free or very cheap I would not complain, but the cost of the ticket ($ 40-​$ 60) wasn’t worth it. It felt like the organizers weren’t really trying.
They also sent an email to all of the attendees offering raffle prizes to reviewers, so please take the other reviews on this site with a grain of salt.

This is a great event if you’re with a group of friends and are just out to be wild. It was a lot more picture taking and talking than actual running. So if you enjoy EDM and fun, it’s a good time compared to a weekend night in. The concept is great, the organization wasn’t so great.
I’m not much of a runner but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t actually a 5K, it was definitely shorter. Also, it seemed like the lights and «interactive» stuff was pretty spread out, I don’t feel like it kept the momentum going very well.
I’ll probably go back if a big group of my friends go back but otherwise I think I’ll be in search of a different run.

I was so displeased I wanted my money back. Here are the reasons:
The event was nowhere near Boston.
The course was EXTREMELY poorly lit, and the course was not prepared AT ALL (literally huge rocks all over the ‘track’). I almost tripped several times as did many other people. There were huge stretches of the track that were completely untouched by the staff.
The event was also poorly organized. It started almost an hour late. There was no clear end to it, it just opened to a field where no music was playing and almost no one was there.
I’m almost CERTAIN it was not a 5k. Was way too short.
The staff threw the colored powder into my nose and eyes everytime (pitching underhand, straight into my face). I knew I’d be covered, but guys, really? Think about it for a second.
The area where you pick up your packets is extremely inconvenient to get to.
Also the event took place at the reynham dog tracks. At one point, you literally run past the dogs, 100s of them, in their barn enclosure, barking constantly.
All in all: seriously don’t do this, it wasn’t fun or worth the $ 35.

Great idea, but not fantastically executed. Most of the course was dark and I kept rolling my ankle on the rocky and uneven paths that were not lit up. If there was more light and more music set up everywhere (speakers along the whole course maybe) this would have been much better.

I didn’t know what to expect with this run, but it was awesome! A great time with great people, and you get a workout in at the same time! Definitely doing it next year!

Cosmic run may not be the original electronic run/​5k but it was certainly a good time. I went to the Boston run with a group of friends and we had an AWESOME night overall. The run went by so quickly (made us wonder if it was actually 5k??) and the concert at the end was worth the registration price alone.
Only downfalls:
1)The run started late because there were SO many people (which did make the experience more fun in retrospect). Waiting around for 20 minutes at the start had us a little antsy.
2)Ended up with a mouth full of powder as I ran through one of the color stations
3)There were a significant amount of parts during the run that were too dark to even see which essentially required you to slow down to a walk just to make sure you didn’t hurt yourself

I did my first cosmic run this year. I was immediately interested in the cosmic run because of the EDM music and neon lights. I was not disappointed! I had SO much fun! I thought that the course was well planned. There were 4 spots during the course where you run through a colored powder zone. By the end of the race I was covered and colorful! The ending of the cosmic run was awesome because there was a DJ on stage playing EDM and keeping everyone pumped up. I will def plan to run the cosmic run next year.

The Cons:
— The track. It was uneven and poorly lit. And in some areas not lit up at all. People got injured as a result.
— You could not hear music through out the whole track.
— It took forever to start the race.
— Poorly organized.
The Pros:
–The concert. This was the best thing out of the whole experience.
–Complimentary water and snacks at the end.
I feel like the advertisement gives off false expectations.

Granted, this was my first Cosmic Run experience so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but definitely NOT this:
— Poorly organized «course» at Raynham Park, which houses the dog tracks. Honestly, when we pulled in, I thought it was some huge construction site with the humongous mounds of dirt and construction equipment everywhere. Much of the so-​called course was just made up of dead spots — in the pitch black darkness on uneven, rocky, unpaved ground with no lights or music. One section smelled so badly of something that people had to cover their noses and sprint through it. Otherwise, we were made to run back and forth in an empty section of the parking lot. Many people just ducked the ropes that outlined the course so they could just go straight to the few pit stops sprinkled throughout the course that had the LED lights, music, and color powder.
— The run started very late due to the huge lines waiting to pick up their packets, which due to a last-​minute change, people could pick up at the event without having to pay the extra charge. I thought this was kind of unfair to all of the people who had already inconvenienced themselves by driving outside of Boston in the days before the event to pick up their packets. It also seemed like people who picked up their packets at the event actually got more stuff than the people who had picked theirs up beforehand. Again, not fair. In any case, don’t bother buying any color powder because you’ll get plenty when you’re in the course.
— Bathrooms were located in some game/​food court building that looked like it had been abandoned. It was dirty and had no toilet paper or paper towels. There were also several porta potties located outside but since the event was so poorly lit, you were basically just peeing in the dark and trying your best to not touch anything so you wouldn’t catch some disease and die.
— Definitely not worth $ 40. What a con.
I think the only way this event could have been remotely enjoyable was if I had been on something just so I could dissociate and not actually be there. Which defeats the purpose so I’ll probably just skip this event altogether in the future. So many people were smoking, popping, and drinking all over the place. Like another reviewer said, no security at all. Definitely not a kid-​friendly event even though I did see some families with young children. The only positive was that parking before the event was done in an orderly fashion and was free.
To be fair, the quality of the course might depend on the location. I have heard that other courses were much better with fewer dead spots. But even so, the inconsistency and discrepancy in quality is unacceptable. Spend your money at your own risk and just know that it could be hit or miss.

Really fun event! Will most likely attend again in the future. Loved the high energy and the idea of a 5k at night. Music and after-​party/​concert were awesome!
Cons– the course was very uneven and rocky and even had a few pot holes. There also wasn’t as much lights and music throughout the course as I would have liked — they were concentrated in a few areas then it was pretty dark everywhere else.
All in all, I had a great night and you’ll probably see me there in 2014!
