I have been coming to this office for 4 years now. Both optometrists are awesome. The staff is very helpful. Especially Dolly. She will grab a few frames from the case that she thinks will look best, and i always end up choosing one of them. She has a knack for choosing the right frames for people. She is so patient, friendly and helpful.

I’ve been coming here for the last 5 years and have never had a bad experience. There are always appointments open to get my eyes checked, Dr. B is great! The staff is friendly and helpful, they’ve helped a lot with understanding what I have available with my insurance.

Dolly at Cohen’s Fashion Optical is absolutely outstanding! When I went to this store I wasn’t exactly sure what I was looking for but I wanted something new. She helped me go through dozens of frames and figure out what would look good with my face shape, size, etc. She had such an eye for detail about which frames would be best and I ended up getting two pairs of glasses and I walked out with them later that day. She was extremely patient with made sure they were exactly what I wanted. I don’t normally write reviews but this was honestly a very fun shopping experience.

I’ve been coming here regularly for around 4 years now — you can get a good deal (try negotiating for a lower price if you need). Oh, and if you get your contact prescription here, they’ll make sure to give you like, a 4 – 7 setup to try them out (even when they know you won’t buy them there). The friendliest staff also!
NOW — the absolute best part however of this Cohen is their primary optometrist; Dr. Baumal. If you ever get the pleasure of having him be the one to examine you and give you a prescription, you’ll love him.
He’s basically like Bill Nye, but in this case, the optometrist guy. Highlight of my visits there considering I only go there once a year at best.

I recently visited this branch to buy new frames with my new prescription. Dolly was fantastic. She was patient and helpful and I actually really enjoyed her company! I highly recommend her especially if you need help choosing a new style — she spent about 40 minutes going through a bunch of different frames with me, until I found the right ones. I spent more than I wanted to for sure, but I did pick a very expensive brand and Dolly spent some time recommending frames that were on sale. I just didn’t end up buying them!

What can I say here that hasn’t already been said? This location of Cohen’s is great. My wife and I have been buying glasses from here for years. Dolly is fantastic. She’s super professional, will work in your budget, and won’t sell you glasses that don’t look good on you.

Great price, great customer service and they were very helpful and patience with helping me find the right frame that fits me and feels comfortable on me. Will definitely come back!

I have been a customer going on 10 years and have extremely high standards when it comes to customer service. Dolly is the consummate professional and completely won me over shortly after walking in the door that first time. She is warm and professional and at the same time no nonsense. This Franchise (I really feel some of these negative reviews must be about other locations within the COHEN chain) offers a wide selection of frames at all price levels. Dolly will not allow you out of the store with a style that does not show you at your best. If you have limited funds, it stands to reason that you won’t be walking out in Prada. She always works hard to stay within my budget — I’m not afraid to be upfront about what I can reasonably afford — and has even steered me away from more pricy frames, when something less trendy fits the bill just as well. Not only does she sell you the perfect pair of glasses, within your budget, she is also happy to help you maintain them with regular servicing. In fact, she insists on it every three months. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched people float out of there, after dragging themselves in with some tale of woe about how they broke the glasses they purchased in some other city, state, or country, that Dolly fixed for free. I recommend her to everyone and have never had anything but praise from those who took my advice.

I was out to dinner this weekend and our waitress had an amazing pair of red glasses, so I asked here where she got them and she told me about Cohen’s in Back Bay. She made sure to tell me about Dolly, and told me to seek her out if I went to the shop.
When I walked in I could tell that I liked the place. Both Dolly and her co-​worker were friendly and helpful. Dolly is no-​nonsense, and I really appreciated that as it helped me really think about what I was looking for. After amassing a pile of about 25 frames with the help of her co-​worker, it was Dolly’s turn to step in and give me her opinion. She knows what types of frames fit a persons face, and even more importantly, their style and demeanor. I wanted something unique and bold, and she could tell even before I told her.
She did a great job of explaining why she felt a certain way about certain frames. Rather than simply telling me something looked good or bad, she explained what that specific frame added or subtracted from my face. This is what really stood out to me, I’ve done a lot of glasses shopping and have rarely found this attention to detail.
I settled on a pair and decided to pull the trigger. 30 (yes 30!) minutes later they were ready to go. By far the most enjoyable experience I’ve had buying glasses. Best of all, if you don’t see something you like in the store but see them online, they’ll order them for you and give you that same level of customer service. A solid experience all around, but I have to give credit to Dolly for that being the case. She really made the experience for me. I’ll be going to her from now on for my glasses. Everyone that I met there was great, but definitely ask for Dolly’s help at some point during your visit.

Note: I also popped into the Cohen’s up near Downtown Crossing and I can say that if you’re going to a Cohen’s franchise ABSOLUTELY go to Dolly and the Back Bay location.

Love the selection and the service here. Dolly is helpful and not high pressure. You can tell she loves what she does. She helped me re purpose my older frames and gave me great advice on how to solve a problem at another optical shop. I will return here.

After reading the reviews on Unilocal,I decided to have an eye exam with Dr. B not too long ago. He was very kind and did a thorough job. I already had a pair of frames and just wanted to have my lenses updated. I was told this would cost some ludicrous price (over $ 150) just for lenses! Nothing fancy, just regular olé lenses. I then asked for my prescription, which was SO awkward. It’s so uncomfortable how Dr. B lingers around the cash wrap as though he is waiting to see if you’d buy something. I paid for my visit and just wanted my prescription. Patients should not feel uncomfortable asking for their prescription.
Fast forward a few months later and I decided I would give contacts a try. Making my appointment was relatively easy, although I did have to wait a bit once I arrived. I get in the exam room and Dr. B immediately asked me if I had worn contacts in the past because if not he would have to teach me how to put them in and I was his last appointment of the day. Really?! Completely unprofessional. Lucky for him, I had worn contacts in the past and did not want to waste his precious time.
I will never be returning to his office given the following reason: inconsistencies with pricing. I was told my contact fitting visit would cost $ 35 or $ 55 with astigmatism. He decided to charge me $ 45. Fine, I wasn’t going to cry over $ 10. But then, I was told by Dr. B that a 30 day supply of the contact lenses I chose would cost $ 30 per box ($ 60 for both eyes) while I was having my eyes checked, which was completely fine with me. I went to go pay for my visit and was asked how I would like to pay. Okay? Mind telling me the total?! I asked and was told the lenses would be $ 90 for 2 boxes. Interesting how the price miraculously went up when I went to checkout. I had done my research prior to my appointment and saw that my lenses clearly only cost $ 30/​box. Nice try. I do not plan on ever returning to this office.

My glasses have been crooked for a while and this is usually an extremely easy task for an optician… Even though I was prepared to pay, they obviously assumed I wanted it done for free, judging by the poor level of service I just experienced.
The lady at the desk was friendly and took my glasses. Only that she decided to gossip about her social life to her colleague next to her halfway through. Sorry but I find it extremely rude and unprofessional when you are taking up another customer’s time to gossip whilst you are being paid to work, especially in front of them. I came to get my glasses fixed, not have to stand there until you’re done talking about your weekend.
A male worker walked out the back room and assisted. After putting my glasses on and still feeling them crooked, he assured me it was fine. He asked his colleague if I bought the pair from their store, she said no, and obviously from that point on he decided he didn’t want to help me. He took my glasses to a back room and was laughing and joking around with another colleague. He brought my glasses, and I asked how much the price was, he said it was free of charge, which I was very greatful for. Getting home, looking in the mirror, they are even MORE crooked then before, placing them on the table, one side is so stuck in the air, I can’t help but feel this was deliberate.
What a great way to grab lifelong customers! (Not).This place is a JOKE. Do NOT go here. The most unprofessional opticians I have ever been to.

Trying to find an affordable pair of glasses is not an easy task. My girlfriend and I are both college students so naturally we didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg for glasses. We searched around Boston and were having a hard time. Then we unsuspectingly found what this Cohen’s Optical had to offer.
We initially just went in for my girlfriend to get an eye exam that was only $ 30 (with an online coupon) but left with much more.
We were attended to almost immediately. Soon after we were in the exam room with very little wait. The purpose for our visit was for my girlfriend to get her eyes examined to determine if she needed reading glasses. She has had trouble seeing up close so it seemed like it was a sure thing. Long story short, Dr. B finally realized that there was another, more important, underlying reason for my girlfriends farsightedness; an issue no other doctor has ever notice before. He was very thorough in his examination and really seemed to care for his patients.
He prescribed glasses but made it clear that it would only temporarily help and did not pressure us into buying glasses. Actually, we were not pressured into purchasing anything by anyone, even Dolly (the owner). They all seemed genuinely interested in the patient’s well being and didn’t force anything if it wasn’t necessary.
Out of curiosity we asked what glasses they had to offer and what the prices were. It turns out they had a section of glasses for $ 50, $ 100, and $ 150. As well as glasses that were very expensive, and everything in-​between. The variety was great in size and really appealed to everyone, on any budget. We decided to look in the $ 50 section (which included frames and lens). There were two large shelves full of metal, and plastic frames, and there was a large variety of styles. My girlfriend found glasses that were perfect for her almost immediately.
Dolly rang us up, $ 50 total for her complete glasses, and they were ready to pick up in less than an hour! So far her glasses have helped her even more than expected, and they look great! Dolly was so helpful, and really understood our situation. She did not try to sell us glasses that were out of our price range, and she did not pressure us to upgrade the lenses. After that visit we are completely hooked, and will definitely be going back to Cohen’s at Copley for all of our glasses needs. I couldn’t ask for a better experience, and the glasses have already made a big difference for my girlfriend.
SUMMARY:
Whether you are looking into glasses for the first time, or if you’re a seasoned glasses wearer Cohen’s at Copley is the place for you. Dr. B is extremely thorough, and really cares about helping his patients to the best of his ability. Dolly (the owner) understands that everyone has a different price range, and doesn’t pressure you to stretch your budget. It is also one of the only places in Boston where you can find $ 50 glasses (lens included) that are great quality, and can be ready very quickly. Everyone is very kind, and they make glasses shopping an enjoyable experience.

Dr. B — not bad, liked to talk. maybe a bit too much. Felt like he was pressuring me to get my contacts prescription updated, and almost felt like he was upselling daily use contacts.
Sales lady — she was super nice and super sweet as others have said. Helped me pick glasses and was realistic how much I can afford which I appreciate as a student.
THE BAD
As a student, I have very very very little disposable income. But when I’m literally on my last pair of contacts and broken glasses, what can you do? There were some frames around $ 100 or $ 150 on sale, Mine fall under the $ 150, but the lady said I would be able to walk out with frames and lenses, with extra thinning and anti glare coat all for $ 250. It sounded reasonable enough to me that I agreed. It wasnt until I got home when I googled the brand that I realized I picked up a pair of $ 85 glasses for $ 150…which is very very f*cking ridiculous. It was about 2x as much. Shame on me for not checking and rushing into it, but really? Such a drastic price difference makes me wonder what else this place does to take advantage of you. I would never come here again. They have lost my trust.
The only reason for 2 stars instead of 1 is because generally speaking, they were nice… but super f*cking sketchy and super scam artists

I must stay again, that these guys are amazing. Dolly is so kind as are all of her staff. My service was prompt, and as scheduled. The Optometrist did an awesome job — he was very understanding when my glasses broke and was kind enough to offer me a pair of contact lenses while my glasses were being fixed.
I would always go back to Dolly for glasses.

My mom went to Dolly today to have the nose piece fixed. She is super friendly and she even adjusted the frame a bit so it doesn’t feel loose. When I called the Downtown location, the cost for fixing or replacing a nose piece is $ 10. My mom was ready to hand her $ 10 but she said «no charge!» Next time when I need new glasses, my mom and I know where to go. Great customer service is helpful.

If you need glasses — go to Dolly. Don’t waste your time with anyone else. I have been wearing (buying) glasses for over 20 years, and I’ve become a repeat customer of Dolly’s. Dolly is the best. Dolly speaks bluntly — she will tell you if something doesn’t work for your face. That’s the best part. She will make sure you find the perfect frames for your face… and your personality.
This store carries a wide variety of frames — very affordable to high end. Easy to find something you like.

I can’t really speak to others’ complaints that the store didn’t honor a coupon, since I didn’t use one; I can just give a review of my own experience, which was honestly fantastic.
I went in looking for new glasses but wasn’t sure at all what style I wanted. Dolly (the owner) took all the time in the world to talk to me, give me advice on what styles might work for my face, and explain everything she was doing and why she was picking out each pair. It was about a half an hour from closing when I wandered in, and she expressed no irritation, and no need for haste. And this really isn’t relevant, but she’s sort of fabulous herself. She has an obvious flair for style and fashion; she owns something like 50 pairs of glasses (she told me this herself; don’t ever expect to see her in the same pair twice); and I swear her hairstyle changed utterly between the two times I went in, once to pick a pair of frames, and once to pick up the completed glasses.
She showed me mid-​price range options, high price-​range options, and low price-​range options, and then — winning my undying loyalty in the process — she directed me to a pair that were on super-​sale clearance. When I wavered between the on-​sale frames and a more expensive choice, she told me to go with the cheaper ones, because they looked just as good and cost half as much. That did it — any store owner who will TELL me to get a cheaper frame has my vote. All told, lenses plus frames was about $ 220. Hello, sale. That was with an EyeMed discount, though, so if you have one through your insurance be sure to mention it.

Thinking about going for an eye exam for $ 29, as stated in their website and in the coupon? Don’t waste your time.
When arriving there and showing the coupon for the eye exam, the woman told us that it is only for when you buy glasses. She didn’t bother even asking if we were interested in buying some.
Business seem to be going bad there. No wonder!

Just picked up two pairs of glasses and regular and sunglasses. This is my second time getting glasses from Cohen’s and both times have been pleasant but different.
My first time was great. Dolly the older lady helped me find glasses. She’s amazingly patient, won’t pressure you, or let you buy something you don’t look good in. She actually steered me in the direct of the cheaper glasses, so that gives me the idea she’s trying to make clients happier instead of digging their pockets. Total spent $ 150. Dolly gets 5 stars for being great.
My second time at Cohen’s was spent with the younger woman. As the others have previously mentioned, she’s not the best. Without being mean or rude to said woman, you should try and get Dolly to assist you. In younger woman’s defense though, I still picked my two recent purchases with her and am happy with them. Total spent $ 800 (regular glasses and sunglasses). Since Dolly is the owner I question whether or not my purchase would have been less money since I went with the younger woman.
If you don’t have eye medical insurance, you can get an exam for $ 29 when you purchase glasses there. Otherwise, you could spend at least $ 70 at other places for an exam. Just a heads-​up.
