I work in the Pru and was meeting a friend for lunch. I wanted a small, local business and thus got good reviews.
Went just after opening on weekday and got a window seat on a nice sunny day. Lots of tables and seats at bar for a small space. The brick interior matches the Back Bay architecture outside the window.
Up front, I have to comment on the bathrooms. Very clean, very spacious. Most small spots squeeze the bathroom in and, when you are 6’3″, it matters. Plus they are unisex so no waiting for one while other is open. Seems very LGBT friendly, now that I think about it.
We were greeted warmly and mentioned we had heard good things on Unilocal — I expected them to bristles at that word but, it was cool. No alcohol was consumed so, I cannot comment there but the bottle of still water brought to table reminded me of Europe.
My burger was excellent; cooked perfect medium and the bun was gloriously buttery and sturdy. Buns that melt are a pet peeve. Fries were good too — thin and crisp. My friend got a fried chicken sandwich. She didn’t realize it came w cheese but she scraped it off. They offered another but she declined.
The service was prompt and friendly. We were left to our conversation as the place filled up for lunch. I will definitely return with others and tell coworkers about it. I like to support local businesses when they make an effort towards excellence.

Went for dinner. The good: burrata salad, mac n cheese, duck on a very interesting beet sauce that was very good and i don’t even like beets, oysters, mussels, scallops (perfectly cooked). The bad: i don’t know. portion sizes? but i eat a lot. they did serve a weird, from-​what-​i-​can-​tell taro spread with the bread rather than butter. it wasnt bad, and i liked it, but it threw me off for a second. highly recommend tho

Coda was recommended by the concierge at our hotel as a good Boston pub. It was a short walk away after a long day, and we were both famished. The guy that greeted us was nice. I wish he had been our server. The server we got was petulant. I truly felt like we were intruding on her evening. We had to sit at a high two-​top even though there were empty four-​tops and no crowd early on a Tuesday.
We ordered two of the same drink from their cocktail list. The bartender made one, poured it into two glasses, and charged us for two. The food came out after a long unexplained delay. At least it was hot. Unfortunately, the cook confused «flavorful» with «salty.» My wife and I ate as much as we could, but that wasn’t much. The green goo under my chicken was just inedible, no matter how hungry one is.
If you are so hungry that any food will do, not too particular about how your food tastes (or just love salt!), and have a fondness for being treated with little regard, this is the place for you! It wasn’t my cup of tea; I won’t be back

The cutest brunch spot in the South End. We came here on a rainy Saturday morning; they don’t take reservations so we got here 30 minutes early (oops) only to find that there was absolutely no line because of the rain and we were the first (and only, for awhile) customers in.
We sat near the window; it made for prime lighting and a cozy corner spot. The menu is pretty simplistic — the options are rather limited, but it makes for choosing easier. I ordered the hash (braised pork, potatoes, dried cranberries topped with a fried egg) and my cousin and her friend ordered the huevos rancheros (sunny side up eggs, pico de gallo, black beans, queso fresco, fried tortillas, & garlic sausage) and a breakfast sandwich (over easy eggs, cheddar, & bacon on an English muffin). The sandwich comes with home fries as a side, but my cousin wanted something lighter and asked if they had fresh fruit (surprisingly, they didn’t), but they were happy to sub the fries for a side salad instead.
The food came pretty quickly and the portion sizes are good. Presentation was on point, and although my hash was on the salty side, it was really good — not too heavy, but rich and satisfying.

Went the other afternoon, very nice lunch, excellent service from a super nice server named Carson… definitely get the ice cream cookie desert mmmm Mmm

Great place for a first date, particularly if you plan on marrying the person you meet there. Good drinks, laid back atmosphere, and good food. Definitely the kind of place you could where you could accidentally spend 5 hours without realizing it.

Coda’s burgers are pretty damn good. The service was really good as well. The fries are generously salted… I’d recommend having them with the truffle aioli and the cajun mustard.

After a failed attempt at visiting the Salty Pig for a celebratory post-​thesis dinner because of an almost 60min wait time, my friends and I were told to head over to the SP’s sister restaurant Coda just down the street. In fact, the hostesses over at SP called Coda before we headed out to make sure that there was a table for four available, so you could say it was quite the pleasant rejection, haha!
Upon arriving, we were led to a reserved table (reservation made by the ladies at SP literally 5min before we walked in, haaaaay) and promptly seated. I ended up ordering the duck breast, which came with gnocchi, and the glock in my rari (shout out to Fetty). The duck breast was perfectly cooked with the skin being crispy and the meat itself being saucy and juicy. It was deliciously decadent and I often find myself thinking about this dish quite often… partly because I’m a glutton and partly because it was just that well composed! The drink itself was fizzy and flower-​y, making it the ideal drink to toast to finishing grad school. Also, the fact that the rest of the drink menu is named after various hip-​hop songs is right up my alley, so how could I not fall in love with this place?
My only complaint is that I found Coda so late during my time in Boston! It definitely would have been a staple in my restaurant rotation.

It was delicious! As a visitor in Boston, we had no idea where to take a friend for his birthday dinner, but we found Coda on Unilocal and were very pleased with the food. The BREAD! Delicious, chewy (not in the bad, stale way, but in the moist doughy way), with a bit of a subtle tang. Had three baskets of it.
I personally had the pork shoulder, which was beautifully tender and soft – the waiter brought me a steak knife but I honestly didn’t need it and probably could have even nixed the my butter knife too. I loved that they let me substitute the side, no extra charge (it came with mashed potatoes but I asked for sauteed broccoli rabe instead).
Another person in our party ordered the salmon, and was surprised to be asked how well he wanted his salmon done. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and am aware that it is safe to eat salmon at varying degrees of doneness, but was also surprised at this rather rare question. He asked for it to be done medium, and I honestly still expected it to come out cooked through – but it actually did come out a perfect medium. Very impressed.
A star off, however, for the fact that we were seated street-​side by the very open window when it was pretty cold and there were open seats elsewhere, and the fact that our waiter was slow, got our drink orders mixed up (oh that reminds me! My gin and honey cocktail was amazing), and was very hard to understand.

Coda really hit the spot on a Saturday night at 8pm as we were desperately trying to find a place that could seat us without having to wait. It was busy but we were lucky enough to get seated at the bar. The place is very cozy, small, and casual. The service is great and staff was very friendly.
The food was fantastic! We started off with the Truffle fries which were amazing and for only $ 5, a pretty big portion. We also got the Brussel sprouts which had bacon and a sweet tangy sauce. It was so good down to the very last bite. For the entrée we got the flatbread topped with ham and some greens. This wasn’t as good as the other things we had. It was a bit too dry and lacked flavor. For drinks we got the «you had me at hello» cocktail but I wasn’t a fan. It was a lot smaller than we expected too.
A good place to stop by for drinks and good food! I will definitely come back!

I have passed this place 10 too many times without checking it out and oh how I regret it. First of all, although its small and dorky of me I love their waiting system. they work with this app/​site that allows you to continuously check where you are in the wait and for a control freak like me this is riveting. Then, we had a really great server, with great hair might I add, us curly girls have to stick together, who was very helpful and had timing down to a t. I got the mushroom risotto that was packed with flavor and very filling. For my drink I got the clock in my rari, because obviously why not. If you can you must come here.

Coda was pricey but good. I came here exhausted on a Friday night, sat at the bar, and got some wine and bites. The baby kale salad was massive, and I didn’t think I could finish it all but it was so good i had to! I’m not one for vinegrettes, but the champagne dressing was a nice, light touch. I also got the short rib ravioli, and I’m glad this is listed as a starter since the portion was small (but just right after that big salad). Bartender was cool and laid back, and food came pretty quickly. An older guy shoved me without apologizing to get a seat at the bar next to me, but they aren’t the most polite in this neighborhood.

I’ve been to Coda countless times. I usually sit in the bar area when I go. They have Trillium on tap. That alone gives them a 5 star rating.
I’ve enjoyed all the food I’ve had. Recently, that’s the arugula salad and the truffle fries. My husband gets the burger, and he loves it. In the past during a big family dinner, we ordered all the appetizers and they were all amazing. Basically you can’t go wrong.

Taking a red eye flight into Boston is not the biz, but making it to brunch at Coda was worth the flight into Boston. After having coffee a few minutes away, we headed over but arrived 30 minutes before opening. We waited in the rain and cold, but at least we got first dibs on seating.
We decided to sit at the window for lighting and space, which gave us plenty of room to talk and take #mastergram worthy photos. Although Coda had a decent tap list, I wasn’t ready to indulge in a beer before noon, so I decided to stick with water.
The brunch menu is small, but the portions were pretty filling. We decided to go with the Hash (braised pork, potatoes and dried cranberries topped with a fried egg), Huevos Rancheros (sunny side eggs, pico de gallo, black beans, queso fresco, fried tortillas and garlic sausage) and a Breakfast Sandwich (over easy eggs, cheddar and bacon on an English muffin). Although the sides for the sandwich comes with home fries, Lucy requested a side salad instead, which they were happy to accommodate. What a meal!
My only complaint is missing out on Friday’s specials! $ 1 oysters until they’re gone :(Oh well, at least I left happy and ready to hit the ground running with 4 hours sleep and bellies full.

Huge fan of Coda! Great spot to dine at without breaking the bank. I’m also a huge fan of the cozy atmosphere. Love the brick walls and chalkboard full of specials. There was a bit of a wait, but the bartenders were attentive and checked in on us every so often. We ordered the brussels sprouts, duck liver pâté, tuna tartare, and the hanger steak (subbed fries for broccoli rabe). I was impressed with each dish, especially the steak! Can’t wait to come back!

Came here Thursday night, busy, but not crazy, plus we had a reservation.
LOVED everything, but tends to be on the saltier side. I love salty food so I had no problem except later that night when I had to drink tons of water.
The tuna tartare tostado was perfect, refreshing, not super salty, and I wish I could have it now just thinking about it! For entrees we got the hanger steak frites, pretty good as well but not as memorable as the tartare. I preferred the duck breast with gnocchi and the pine nuts were a perfect addition to the dish.
They give you a little book with the option to sign, doodle, or whatever when you pay too. Random but cute haha!

Brunch on a Saturday morning was surprisingly quiet. Service was uneven, as the first table we were seated at was a bit dirty and we were one of the first to be there that day. Additionally, maybe it was «early» but it just seemed like the wait staff didn’t have a pulse that morning.
The grits with braised pork was not too bad. The cheesy grits were smooth and reasonably flavorful. The pork was also decently seasoned and fairly tender. I couldn’t complain too much.
The restaurant is rather tiny and I can see it being cramped on a busy Friday night. I guess if you’re in the area, this isn’t a bad spot for brunch. Just temper your expectations.

Came here on a Saturday night because my date saw the Coda burger online and declared that «it looks dope.» It was in fact a really good burger, and we also got the butternut squash risotto — which was sweet, warm, and comforting on a cold night.
The ambiance was the winner for us. My date loved the fact that the drink list included «Glock in My Rari» (Sidenote: I had to look up the song & who Fetty Wap is after the date… I had no idea) and I loved that the bill came with a notebook filled with drawings and messages from past diners. It was a fun place and the food was delish!

I came here on a very rainy Monday night.
There was only 2 other couples in the establishment. I proceeded to sit at the bar.
The bartender was really friendly and informative. He mixed me this really good and fruity drink as I ordered the gnocchi.
The gnocchi was dry and bland. But luckily, I got a cold from the indecisive weather in Boston.
The atmosphere is very modern. Something you’d see in various cities.
I gave this place 4 stars for their service and atmosphere.

Came once for a weekday lunch and again for Friday oyster happy hour and was satisfied both times.
Yes, Coda offers $ 1 oysters on Fridays starting at 4pm until they run out! I love finding dollar oysters and will easily gobble down a few dozen of them.
In terms of food, I’ve only had the burger and while it isn’t the best I’ve ever had, I found it a solid choice in terms of quality, quantity, and price for Back Bay. You have a choice of a few cheeses for the burger, and you can add other items like caramelized onions or a fried egg for an additional charge if you so desire. It was cooked to order at a nice pink medium, though for some reason I found the patty a little… soggy? No leaking though; the bun was sturdy enough to hold it together.
