My best friend just moved to Boston, and Coco’s is literally a two minute walk away from her new place. We go to Coco’s every time I visit. For what it is, the food is great. I love the Tostones Rellenos(stuffed plantains). They offer chicken, steak, or shrimp. I haven’t tried the shrimp version but so far, the chicken is my favorite. We also tried the guava habanero wings because what’s better than a hot & sweet combination?! It’s rare that I eat wings without blue cheese but the guava habanero is perfect as is. The staff is always very attentive. On our first night, we just so happened to go on a Trivia night and guess who won first place? Yes, us(Team UConn)! The second time we went was on a Thursday and there was a woman at the door collecting money for a cover charge, which can only lead me to believe it’s a busier bar night??? We assured her we were there to eat, and the manager came over to say we were fine. Overall, I like Coco’s– the perfect local bar. The food is great, the staff is nice, and the drinks are good. :)

Revised Review April 2, 2014. My love affair with this place is OVER! Over crowded, music too godamn loud, and the drinks ridiculously high! Won’t be stepping in there ever again.

Like I said its not all that it needs improvement burger sliders were cold & salty Wings were smutherd in barbecue that taste like Kraft sauce not finger licking. Then wings don’t have enough meat big tease. The waitress was horrible waited to about 30m until she came back to see if we needed anything. 15m is my max come back and give ur rounds missy. They did a wonderful job in Renovation of the place. One thing I Dnt agree is one Restroom it’s pretty but u could fit one more toilet in there Wow! But with peoples opinion this place will get better On everything… :(

From the ashes of the Old Stag(RIP: ) rises Coco’s Bar and Lounge. I live only a few blocks away so grabbed a few game neighbors and we checked out the grand opening this last Saturday. This place is no Old Stag. It is far too clean. Everything still has that shiny newness and the stale smoke smell that permeated the Stag has been eviscerated. They completely remodeled the joint– it’s open and big, with giant windows looking out onto the street. The big bouncer checking IDs, however, is still there. And there is actual food. Which isn’t completely awful! We only ordered a couple of things to test the waters(something with chorizo on a skewer and… it totally escapes me. Maybe just some fries? I’ll reconvene with my fellow dining companions and update). Mainly fried foodstuffs, but the owner came by and asked us about our thoughts on the menu. I did tell her that the Latin-y vibe they were going for didn’t really mesh with the fried mozzarella sticks on the menu. Was hoping for more Latin inspired food– especially since we are smack dab in Egleston Square. It would be über awesome to have a legit nicer eating establishment in Egleston. TVs. Not normally worth noting, but someone decided they needed a lot of plasmas. It’s a little overwhelming actually. The TV to customer ratio is very high. Service wasn’t fabulous, but I had a feeling the girl working our table had never done it before. So slack is given. We’ll let them work out the kinks and give the service a proper review after they’ve had time to settle down. Either way, it’s nice to have our neighborhood bar back in business. Especially one with such a nice lady’s room!
