Church

I made a reservation for brunch with my family this past weekend via OpenTable. We showed up at the designated time only to discover that this place is CLOSED. No sign indicating this or a sign indicating when they would be open again. In fact the only sign we could see indicated that they were hiring, which was weird. I know that the music venue associated with it had closed, but nowhere had it been stated that the restaurant was closed. Very disappointed in the lack of communication from the management. I’ve been here before in the past and really enjoyed their brunch, but to not have any indication that our reservation would not be able to be honored was unacceptable and ended up messing up our plans for the day.

Food/​Drinks:
The food was good, not great. The portion sizes were quite generous, which is nice to see in that price range. The drinks were great. They have a 7 deadly sins drink menu with different cocktails for each, and theyre delicious. I recommend the «Greed» which is Hendricks Cucumber Gin. Actually… I recommend anything with Hendrick’s. They also have a full bar with just about any kind of spirit or craft/​macro beer you could want.
Service:
The servers are polite, but on a busier night can be a little hard to get ahold of if you’re in need of anything. However, once you give them a heads up on what you need they’re quick to get it for you right away. Tip these folks well.
Atmosphere:
Great atmosphere. Not a lot of cluttered wall decorations which helps open things up inside. They have a good division between the bar standing area and the dining area. Their patio seating is fantastic. Right on a pretty busy intersection but without the noise, and the tables are spaced out perfectly so you aren’t distracted by other’s conversations. Overall a great use of space.
Bathrooms:
I didn’t get a chance to see the bathrooms at this establishment.
Overall:
I would definitely return to Church when I find myself in the Boston area again. I think they have a great little spot there.

The food was delicious. We had the french toast, served with bacon and a poached egg — the perfect combination of sweet and savory — and steak and eggs, which was surprisingly good for a brunch steak! The only downside to our experience was slow service — it seemed that there was only one server for the whole restaurant (on a Sunday!) with a couple of assistants. Coffee and water refills were hard to come by!

Yum! I went to Church tonight and had the farmer’s flatbread, truffle fries and the faith drink. So delicious. My friend had the portobello mushroom burger and one of the other drinks. Everything was great!

One of my favorite places for brunch in Boston. The food is delicious and always consistent. they have some fun flavors and options for morning drinks such as mimosas (my favorite) and service has always been good. Only downfall is that the menu is fairly small, not a lot of options so if you’ve been there more than a couple times, you’re going to end up with the same things over and over again

Food was mediocre. My friend had the fried chicken sliders (dry and somewhat burnt), and I had the flatbread pizzas (bland and room temperatured)
Drinks were average. Nothing special.
Service was embarrassing. Server charged us the wrong amount, then told us we’d have to wait about half an hour for her to fix it because she was busy.
Won’t be returning. So much potential — so much disappointment.

I like Church, unlike other places with the same name, one may not have to worry about feeling guilty or penitential while being there and enjoying a nice beverage or foodstuff.
I enjoyed the fried pickles immensely (but J.M. Curley does those better) — and there were plenty of them. I wasn’t blown over by anything, but it seems like a nice enough spot — a little tucked away for Fenway.

SÚPER place for drinks & food. Cool lounge area for after work drinks & bites. They were really accommodating for a late table reservation! Really enjoyed the burger! The desserts looked great too! Hoping they stay around for a while!

Volunteers from a local Convention went and we received extremely rude and beyond poor service. We gave fair warning of a large group coming late at night, and many of us were treated very rudely and inhospitably. We will not be returning our business to them. Strongly and highly recommend others do NOT go to this establishment.

We came in a very large group, something we do each year after PAX. We had also called ahead and let them know we would be coming.
The bar was understaffed and the manager was rude. The waitress kicked one of our group out for being a «junkie». She was way off base. The bar couldn’t make fancy drinks because they were overwhelmed. I get that they were not prepared but there was no reason to be rude and mean to their customers.

Played a gig here a few weeks ago. The fried pickles were pretty good. They gave us a «a beer for 1 dollar» ticket for playing, so I can’t complain. Bouncer/​doorman was working his butt off and forgave our singer for accidentally breaking a glass @ the pool table, so they did a good job.
–1 star for the cost to quality of food ratio (not terrible, just not something I would think is worth it).

HUEVOS RANCHEROS!
Church has great brunch, with an interesting menu that ranges from the meaty to the eggy. All are very yummy. It’s also convenient to Fenway. In general a good place to have brunch!

I think this place has potential but needs to sort out food execution. Went here with family in town for brunch— diets ranging from vegan to all animal friends and we were pleased with the menu. The prices are awesome, can’t stress that enough. Legit brunch if the food can be sorted. Ordered the steak and eggs which came with truffle fries (which were fantastic) and a nicely dressed green salad. Steak was ordered medium-​rare— it was well over medium and the fried eggs were hard— seen that on other reviews— easy fix. Others at the table really enjoyed the omelets, classic diner breaky and salads. Service was fine; friendly and fairly quick. Their cocktails look amazing so might have to return for those. This place is trying and has some interesting twists on the menu but how the dishes are finished would improve diners experience dramatically.

Delicious Cocktails! All named after the deadly sins. I had greed and my friends had lust and envy. So good!
Food portions are very generous, and absolutely delicious. I will definitely be coming here again to try more of their dishes.
Macaroni and cheese sounds simple, yet here it’s exquisite. Church burger was delicious!
Ambiance is very energetic, and service is awesome.

Reasons to go to church for new year’s brunch: everywhere else was booked. It’s in a convenient location. Good Mimosas.
Reasons NOT to go to Church: scrambled eggs were cooked to death. Yolks in sunny side and poached eggs were rock hard. Bacon was borderline raw. Refired bacon also severely undercooked. Brisket hash flavorless. Pancakes were burnt.
Most ridiculous– the menu says sausage Benedictine with crab cake and old bay hollandaise. Two of us ordered it and discovered no crab cake. The waitress said it was only a sausage benedict and the crab cake must be a «typo»
Waitress was apologetic, but as the issues piled up and piled up, this turned from a nice low key brunch to a disaster of a meal. Maybe it was an inexperienced chef on the holiday shift? Never going back to find out!

Table: along the wall of the bar. High top. Yuck. So cold next to the door. I hoped for better having made reservations.
Service: she was nice. Gave us space. Took order as soon as we were ready. Didn’t rush us.
Food: my steak was overlooked. My asparagus was cold. The fries were great. I was a bit tipsy and hungry so I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want the fries to go away. My boyfriend had a shitting salad and a decent flatbread. His drinks were good. Mine were meh.
We will give it a second chance and include a visit to the venue. Maybe we missed something the first go at it.

A great place to stop by if you need a break from the beer guzzling jabronies in the area!
This review is strictly for the restaurant that’s attached to the music venue. I absolutely love this place. Church boasts an intimate and cozy feel among a slew of large loud restaurants in the Fenway area. They have couches for groups, tables, and plenty of bar seating. Perfect place for your date, your hip parents, or your high school friends.
The drink menu is always fun to sift through — they have a cocktail for the 7 deadly sins and 7 heavenly virtues. Although they’re $ 12, they’re generous in both size and alcohol. Vanity and Envy are my favorite. The bartenders are always friendly and it seems like quite a few people stop by on their own just to chat with them.
Menu isn’t outrageously exciting, but they do what they have really well. All of their sliders are solid and their seasonal desserts (such as their bread pudding in the summer) will fulfill whatever intense craving for sugar you have.

A Grade Below Similar Restaurants in the Fenway Area
I recently tried Church with a friend as we were catching up and grabbing dinner. Located in Fenway, Church is easy to get to with a large parking lot in the back. The ambiance is ok. A bit dark and more like a pub than a restaurant. It reminded me a bit of Citizens Public House but a bit more generic. The service was good.
We started with the goat cheese, prosciutto, and asparagus pizza. It was pretty good. The balsamic drizzle gave it a good sweet sour taste. The crust was crunchy but also not overdone. We both got the pork chop served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The pork chop was just seasoned with pepper and did not have much of it’s own identity flavorwise. The mashed potatoes were incredibly bland and starchy. The asparagus was limited to a few spears. Overall, the entrée was disappointing. We ordered some skillet corn bread which was just ok. The sweet was not well-​balanced with salt and so it tasted more like cake than cornbread. We did not try dessert because we were just unimpressed.
Overall, Church seems to aspire to be like a Citizens but really falls short. It ends up being more like a small pub with mediocre food. I doubt that I’ll be back. There are too many better options.
I should also add that the food is rather pricey for the level of quality. My friend and I paid about $ 43 each for the above with only 1 beer and a ginger ale. You do not get much value for your dollars at Church.

Church… I can see the light. Literally. Their light kept flickering on and off; I thought I was going to have a seizure. They need to get that fixed ASAP.
The food, some of it was great and some of it was not so great. We started off with fried pickles, and there were a ton per order. They were a little too salty to my liking, but my friends enjoyed them. I ordered the chicken pesto flatbread, which was actually really delicious and reasonable for $ 8. I also got the shrimp ceviche, which was regrettable. It tasted like a dish where someone who was experimenting making shrimp ceviche for the first time made it– there was just no punch of flavor and the shrimp was soggy and limp. That’s right, limp shrimp. I wish I had gotten something better for $ 14.
The service was a little slow for the restaurant being completely empty. Our waitress was kind of drab.
Overall, I think this restaurant has a lot of potential to be better, but right now it isn’t quite near the top of the list. It’s not a 5-​star fancy restaurant, but it does have decent food for a casual night out.
P. S. My friend got the steak tips and his portion was humongous. His fries were also covered in truffle oil and oozing amazingness.

2 stars for the patio in the sun and for having fernet behind the bar.
Could have done without the bitchy server who laughed at an umbrella nearly impailing guests when it flew out of the table and could have benefited from having silverware with our meals. Good job MIA you’re a fucking keeper. Where were you the whole time aside from talking shit about guests within ear shot and allowing another server to do your work? Horrible service, hands down. Still loving the sunny smoke filled patio though.
