History

Established in 1999.

The Program for Weight Management was founded in 1999 with the collaborative team of Dr. Ronald Arky, a senior endocrinologist in Diabetes and Metabolism, Dr. Malcolm Robinson, a senior surgeon in the Department of Surgery, and Kathy McManus, a registered licensed dietitian and the Director of Nutrition at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

We opened our clinic doors with 30 patients. The purpose of the clinic was twofold: 1. offer an alternative for patients who wanted to lose a significant amount of weight using a very low calorie meal plan under medical supervision and 2. offer a program for patients who needed to lose weight prior to undergoing gastric bypass surgery. Our clinic expanded to over 100 patients in 2 short years. PWM continues to staff the most dedicated, compassionate physicians and dietitians to help our patients reach their goals.
