We taste a lot of stuff (hard work!) and only stock what brings you the best quality at any price. We’ll deliver your order to your business or residence for free — you just have to meet a low minimum purchase, which really isn’t that hard if you think about it. Nice selection of wine, from good value (low dollar) to unique higher end choices. Descriptions posted alongside bottles are a big help — they provide honest assessments and comparisons, not canned vineyard PR notes. Great service, too — down to earth advice from nice folks.

Bauer Wine is a small, but decent wine store in Boston. I wouldn’t say they have the best selection of wine but not that worst either. Fortified wines are very much lacking. I was impressed with their beer selection though. Staff, on average, was pleasant and knowledgeable.

I ordered a gift to be delivered the same day from across the country to my friends in Boston and couldn’t be more impressed with the level of service Bauer delivered! They were friendly and helpful on the phone and they read my comments when I ordered online asking for a specific time of delivery and some other items to include. They absolutely followed through, and It was a nice surprise for our friends. I am really grateful to Bauer for being so thorough and professional :)

Love this place. Right around the corner they have a nice selection of all over the country domestic wines. Their spirits are limited but they try to source as many as they can. Especially if you are looking to build your bar with whiskeys or bitters.
Additionally, I love the house cat that just owns the place.

Bauer is the best. Great selection, free delivery, & they’re super friendly. They even have a house cat running around their store — AND they’ll special order beers they don’t have in stock.
Last month I attended a beer tasting hosted by Bauer, & met some nice people while discovering local craft beers.

Any spirits shop that’s open until 11pm has a special place in my heart, even if that may be past my mid life bedtime. This is a small shop set just below street level with an adequate though not necessarily large selection of wines and spirits for when your haunting the Copley/​Prudential area. Friendly service to boot.

Great, wide selections of wine from all over the country and world.
The older gentleman who helped us was beyond helpful. He showed us all kinds of options when we asked about a local wine.
He knows his stuff. He gave us a brief history on every wine he presented.
Everything was nicely priced. They had a lot of liquor as well and it’s conveniently located on Newbury St.

This place makes me happy. And no, not just because they’re selling me alcohol, though that helps too.
It makes me happy because it’s got everything despite the small size, it’s beautifully clean and nicely decorated, and it has both friendly sales staff and a friendly cat. The staff has helped me with some odd requests («I need a bottle of wine with a really funny name that still tastes good enough for me to bring to work»). The prices are surprisingly good as well: I never would have thought that this lovely little Newbury St shop would be cheaper (by a wide margin) than the slightly-​closer-​to-​me but infinitely grungier mini mart frequented by the MIT frats. But I did a price comparison one day, and Bauer is definitely cheaper!
I’m also looking forward to trying the free delivery when I stock up for a party soon.

I’m not sure how they pick which ones get the nice labels, but I assume it’s staff favorites, best sellers or best reviewed ones. Regardless, its really helpful when you’re looking for gift wine (or wine for yourself if you don’t have a go to one).

Ok. I normally don’t review shops but Bauer was so good I had to. I was very impressed by the level of professionalism and the knowledge of the guys who work here.
I was looking to send a birthday gift to a friend who is a very knowledgable about wine. John suggested that I put together a gift package that included a bucket to chill the wines in (Bauer’s version of the traditional gift basket). I chose the large version and put in 3 different wines that we chose together. That is what impressed me. I know what my friend likes and John listened, made suggestions and gave me several options in the price I wanted to spend for each wine.
It was perfect. I called, they delivered my gift that was beautifully packaged with a note wishing my friend a happy birthday, and I’m happy. They emailed me a receipt after the fact as well.

Small in size, big place in my heart. I love Bauer Wine and Spirits, not only because I live 4 blocks away, but because the owner is awesome and incredibly nice, there is a kitty that sometimes lingers around minding it’s own business behind the checkout counter, and they have a fantastic selection of booze, everything from beer to wine to champagne. Oh, and did I mention they DELIVER?! Can’t beat it!

I can’t believe I did not initially give Bauer’s 5 stars.
Bauer’s is awesome. They are small but mighty. Crammed into this tiny store is a fantastic selection of wine across a range of price points, a great variety of interesting craft beers, and a well-​curated collection of liquors. Combine that with frequent tastings, an adorable store kitty, and fantastic service, and Bauer’s is clearly a 5 star establishment.
OH! And also! They deliver! FOR FREE (some purchase minimums depending on where you live)! My dream is to one day have a life of such laziness and luxury that I have Bauer bring my alcohol to me a few blocks away.

So apparently in Massachusetts, you can’t get alcohol from a grocery store or convenience store. You actually have to go to a liquor store. Who knew?
I found this to be terribly inconvenient. But we were pointed here after going to several stores and not finding any liquor in them. They have so many different kinds. The selection is way better than any grocery store. And they aren’t too badly priced.

Decent selection of wines, beers and spirits. Staff weren’t particularly welcoming or helpful. Even after factoring in its Back Bay location, prices like the $ 49.99 for Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label when it’s normally $ 30 – 35 is really pretty laughable.

Two words — they deliver.
Parking is usually hard to find around Newbury so the fact that they deliver (same day) to the south end is awesome! Apart from the wine selection. They carry several top-​notch beers. Just got me some of my favorite Milk Stout (Left hand) and Sixth Glass (boulevard brewing) for a decent price. Score!

A great local wine store with knowledgeable and helpful staff. Though they are always happy to help with selections if asked, I find the best thing is they are happy for you to browse and read labels.
I come here every time I am in Boston and pick up a couple bottles wine.

Awesome store, perfect for wine and beer delivery in downtown Boston.
We went to Bauer for an office party and they were very easy to work with. They helped us pick out a good selection of wine (on sale = we got twice as much!), packed it up, and set it aside for free delivery the next day. They showed up on time and everything was in good shape.
I suggest going in person so you can see their sales and pick out booze for yourself, but you can also order the phone if needed.

The thing that I’ve discovered on Unilocal is that a lot of stuff like, liquor stores, are rated based on location and region.
While I’m sure that this store is awesome for the Back Bay /​Newbury area, it’s really just plain «ok» when compared what liquor stores should/​could be.
We popped in to grab some wine for dinner and was happy to see that they carry Cambria — since we used to belong to their wine club but can no longer due to that MA doesn’t allow shipments of alcohol… but anyway, that’s something separate altogether.
In any case, we were able to find some decent wines and they were friendly and helpful enough, but as far as being a «really awesome» liquor store, it’s really just ok.

Prior to a recent bad experience I probably would have given Bauer 3 stars. They are expensive but well located and easy.
A couple of weeks ago my boyfriend was searching for a limited edition beer: Founder’s Kentucky Breakfast Stout, My boyfriend had called the distributor and was given a list of liquor stores that were getting the beer. He called Bauer, which was on the list, and they lied to him saying they we’re getting it. When he called them out on it they snootily said «Not gonna happen. We’re holding it for our regular customers.» Not customers who had reserved it, even. Which might have been fine if he were polite…
but he wasn’t.
This place will not be getting any more of my business.
