My only complaint is that I can’t give this place more than five stars. I don’t know if it was the intent of the ones who laid the place out, but it really has a «guy’s place» kinda feel; almost like a sleek Mancave of sorts which is the highest compliment I can pay to the ambiance of a place, believe me. I don’t know if they do cuts for women as well, but as I’ll get into, they definitely know how to cut a man’s hair right.
Even from the get-​go, the ladies in this place impressed me. The lady at the front desk offered to take my coat… and they even offered me a choice of beverages which I was particularly taken aback by, but in a good way. I called ahead, so I waited all of maybe 25 seconds before a young lady named Valeria greeted me.
Valeria was INCREDIBLE; an amazing asset to this establishment without question.
I’m pretty sure I could write for an hour and not say enough nice things about her. She is an incredibly warm and lovely lady who I understand is originally from Brazil, though you’d never know it as her English is perfect. She really made me feel right at home at the Barbershop Lounge, took the time to talk about the kind of style I wanted, and pitched a couple of hair styling suggestions that I hadn’t considered, but thought they were great ideas.
The haircut itself was amazing. I never know from one salon to the next if I’m gonna get my hair cut the way I like it, so with each new experience, it’s always a bit of a gamble. This being my first time here, I didn’t know what to expect. I am happy to say, however, that Barbershop Lounge is top-​notch… and Valeria’s a HUGE reason why this place is so awesome.
I had so much fun speaking with her throughout my cut. She’s a very sweet, charming lady who made me feel 100% at ease there. To see the finished product was so great, too, because I’d been needing a solid, professional cut and Valeria delivered in a way that very few could ever possibly top.
I will definitely be back and though I can’t speak for the others who work there, if they’re anything like Valeria, Barbershop Lounge may just be the greatest place in Boston to get your haircut.

Valeria is unbelievable. Their whole focus is on making you comfortable and providing a relaxing and enjoyable men’s haircut. I’ve been seeing her for years and couldn’t be more pleased.

A good friend of mine recommended this place for me. To be honest I usually shave my head because I never liked any of the haircuts I got here. Went today and I loved how the place was clean and organized. Everything was great, Nate did a great job cutting my hair, trimming and cleaning my beard. I would like to comment one issue, which was the lady sharing the area with him, I did not appreciate the way she reacted when Nate placed my cup of coffee next to her hair dryer because there was no space, and she was all frustrated, u really don’t have to show customers that you’re having issues or a bad day. But again everything was great and I would highly recommend this place to others, if you’re willing to be spoiled a bet (because it’s a bet on the expensive side)

I have been going here for about 3 years now and can’t say enough good things. Service is great and staff is friendly. The atmosphere is nice with the lounge /​pool table /​bar in the rear.
The hair cuts are also top notch — I see Taffy and she’s fantastic.
Finally, they offer an annual membership which is a good value.

Maybe a haircut but just don’t go there for a shave!
My attendant had just had a cigarette so I got smoky hands and fingers all over my face. The wet towels were put on for only a few seconds as an arbitrary thing — not long enough to actually soften whiskers. Then out came the standard Gillette razor, albeit a vibrating one.
If you want to part with money to get a shave no better than what you can do yourself then go here. I had missed patches, rash from where they’d scrubbed my face with the razor, just awful.

My husband and I were enjoying a gorgeous day walking down Newbury street when this place caught my eye. I know my husband loves shaves so we walked to see if he could get one. The store was closing in about 30 minutes but they were able to squeeze him in.
I love that they have a pool table and bar in the back. Though no one offered me a drink, I entertained myself playing pool.
I’d occasionally peek over to see how my husband was doing. He looked very relaxed with hot towels on his face or with a blade against his chin.
After he was done he came over and rubbed his cheek against mine. Nice and smooth. $ 35 and he left $ 5 for tip.

Turn back and go to The Art of Shaving (also on Newbury St.) if you’re looking for a proper shave. This was the worst shave every … $ 35 bucks and she used an electric razor. To top it off, I had to clean-​up all the missed spots when I got back home.

Super clever idea, but the worst $ 50 haircut my husband and son ever got.

This place deserves a five star! When I first entered I was greeted in a nice and friendly manner. As one of the staff took my jacket she said, «Nice jacket!» I was like thank you! ;) (It was a brown leather jacket Towne by London Fog.) Anyway they offered coffee or a bottle water while I waited at the bar, but unfortunately I already had my morning coffee. So far so good!
I wanted a buzz hair cut since my hair was getting a bit long. The haircut dresser was really nice and knew what she was doing. (I could have started a conversation, but you know how loud the buzz haircuts are.) They took their time, which is a big plus because of getting the haircut right. At the end I was impressed and very satisfied. Definitely come here! Thank you very much barbershop lounge. I will be doing more business there soon.

Went in for the first time today. Called ahed around lunch and got an appointment pretty quickly for right after. Receptionist on the phone was excellent and very friendly.
Once there everything felt comfortable. The same person on the phone took my jacket and bag and sent me to the back. Somewhat of an awkward lounge because of the way the seating is arranged but, taking a seat at the bar, all was well. I sat for 5ish minutes (I was early) and was very nicely grabbed by Taffy.
Taffy, such a dream stylist. Very nice, and walked me through each step making sure I was comfortable and liked what she was doing. As someone that often could not describe how he would like his hair, she understood pretty well and did a nice job lightening my thick hair while shaping it nicely. Did I mention she is beautiful? Almost makes it uncomfortable since I have terrible social skills. But, she makes it all good with her hair cutting magic.
I typically think the clientele for this place may be a little more… shitty. I don’t want to stereotype but I feel like juiceheads and asshats would love this place because of nice looking women cutting mens hair. I far from qualify for either stereotype but I must say I really enjoyed the nice talking and joking around with everyone.
So, why 4 stars? I want consistency and can’t say they provide that yet. I will without a doubt be going back for Taffy for her to do her magic.

Wow! Two years getting my hair cut here. I can’t think of a better place to go. I love it here.

A mixed review overall.
On the positive, Great location, great staff when interacting face to face. They are cordial and efficient. Michaella is the best. She is not only a sweetheart but she knows men’s haircuts. The ambiance of the place is great and they always offer you water, coffee or any other drink.
Phone customer service is not the best. A couple times I called and got into voice-​mail and despite the fact that I left my name and number so someone would call me back to schedule an appointment, they never called me back. I suppose having a membership would have meant being treated like a member. So not worth having it I guess.
The products are some of the best I have tried and I will continue to buy them.

I’m a contractor and usually just go for the $ 16 dollar special at the barbershop near my shop. However, when I find myself around Newbury Street I try to find my way to this place! Great people, solid hair cuts and an awesome shave. I took my brother-​in-​law here with some buddies for a clean up before his wedding and it made for a great night. We hung out at the bar, shot a little pool and talked shop with the girls! Always worth a few extra bucks for a great experience.

I always thought I reviewed this place a while ago. It took me forever when I moved here in 2006 to find a decent barber. then when I did, I decided to grow my hair out for a year (dumbest decision ever). During that grow out phase, I thought I’d get better results with a «stylist» type, and this place had recently opened and had some good reviews. I went probably a total of 4 times… which I would say was 4 times too many. My «barber» (read: stylist) was the most frequently reviewed so I scheduled my first appointment with her.
I remember feeling like I was a child again when I was there… for several reasons. I didn’t like the way she talked to me, it was like she was dealing with a child, somewhat patronizing, or like the cut would be more fun if we all just jumped around or something. then sitting in the chair, while a novel idea oversized leather chairs do not make great chairs to get your haircut in. I couldn’t get comfortable, the chair was just too big… all about the gimmick of it as opposed to the practicality. Never hit the «bar» up, as it was pretty lame. They have t.v.‘s but with all the girls talking you can’t pay much attention to them.
The cut was nothing special, the longer my hair got the curlier it got so it was just a hassle to deal with. Overall, the place was overpriced, and you’re paying for the gimmick, not the quality at all in my opinion. Not to mention, the girls aren’t anything special either, so another fail. I finally found my way back to the best barber I had before I grew my hair out. he’s now down the street at Emerge (Chris)… and the price is a little more, but I get a much better cut, in a private men’s club part of the salon, so it’s always quiet and relaxing. Much better option.

I scheduled my appointment the day before I wanted to go. I asked for a 4:30 appointment for a haircut, shave and goatee trim. I arrived on time and was taken to the ‘bar’ where I was offered a drink. I was given a bottle of water.
I was soon called to Karen for a shave and goatee trim. She began by feeling the stubble on my face and decided to start the traditional shave with an electric to ‘cut down on the stubble.’ I have experienced more than a few barber shaves in the past and it has never started with an electric razor. From there Karen started to shape my goatee and was a little put off due to the fact that I wanted her to take off some of the length. The shaped and cut the goatee with two different types of electric clippers. I have had my goatee cut with electric clippers, but it is usually shaped with the straight edge.
After the shaping and trimming, Karen began the hot towel routine of which I am used to. She then covered my eyes with a towel to keep the light out of them. She then shaved me. It did not feel like a normal straight edge razor, but I kept on. Then began round two of the hot towels and the lather. Then Karen did something that stunned me. She began shaving me with a Gilette Turbo razor, yes the same one that is on my counter in the bathroom. If you get a good straight edge razor shave there would be no reason WHATSOEVER to redo the shave with a below average razor that can be purchased at your corner supermarket.
My face looked okay, but I was not overly impressed. Karen was very nice and tried hard to make me comfortable through the process.
I was then invited to have another seat at the ‘bar’ to wait for a haircut. After an very short wait a woman can to get me for the haircut. I was very excited for the haircut while I was being shaved, because I was noticing Rosa was taking care of another customer and started with a shampoo and a conversation about what he wanted and what would look good considering his hair type and facial features, and I was VERY excited to have this happen as I feel it was time to change my look a bit if I could. Well unfortunately for me, Rosa was not the person who was going to be cutting my hair.
I was sat in the chair, the stylist (and I use that term with reluctance as that title would imply that she would do some styling to my head) used the spray bottle of cold water to wet my head and face and then without even asking me what I usually do with my hair or anything she just starts cutting my hair. She was FAR from gentle with he manner and did not so much say a sentence to me while cutting. The only thing she asked me after she was done was if I wanted a rinse. I decided against it as I was so upset with her lack of caring of my style and my hair, that I figured the ‘rinse’ would be done in the same slip shod manned. My hair is now much too short to do anything with, completely not blended from the top to the bottom and there is a frizz to the sides of my head that I usually go to a barber to get rid of.
I did not find out this stylists name until I was at the desk checking out when the cashier asked me if I «wanted to leave Anna a tip.»
Unfortunately now I have to find a proper barber with a sense of style (tough to find) to fix this mess that is now on my head.
I could not me more upset or disappointed with an experience that I was very much looking forward too.
Another interesting note was that I did not notice a single barber licenses or any licenses on display as I am used to seeing in a barber shop.

Great shave service. I went here with my groomsmen early on my wedding day and we all got traditional shaves or beard trims and shot a few games of pool. It was a nice way to relax and get looked after for a special occasion.
I was suprised its not busier. I live in NYC where barbers are generally overpriced and rather hit-​or-​miss. This place seems pretty good for a bit of sophistication and pampering, if that’s what you’re looking for.

Super friendly and polite. They take your jacket and hat upon arrival, offer you a seat at the bar and a beverage. Coffee is hot and perfect.
I am a regular with Taffy, who gives the best haircut to my straight and thick locks that I have found this side of the Mississippi. No electric razor here, she uses the scissors with skill.
Nice, comfy lounge chairs and plenty of TV’s. Thank you ladies.

Totally worth the $ 25 for the groupon for a cut. $ 45 normally? Depends how much disposable income you’ve got.
This is a nice place, though small, and staffed only with the fairer sex (some more fair than others). They have a «bar» and pool table in the back and several flat screens flanking the walls.
The girl who gave me my trim was cute and covered in tats. In about 25 min she had my hair buzzed and gelled up.
I can’t help but compare this place to 379 Club in Allston which basically has the same schtick — «manly salon/​spa». 379 Club is half the price, twice the size, and offers massages. But it’s staffed with all dudes though and of course services a different clientele.
If you’ve got money to burn, there’s no reason you shouldn’t do it here. Me personally? I’ll be on the lookout for another groupon, which they mentioned they do pretty often.

So, I’ve had the chance to get my hair cut done in a lot of places, each with varying results. Barbershop Lounge falls into the «good» side of these varying results.
Rosa did a great job with my hair. She listened to everything I said about my hair, and was able to come up with a great final product. Not only was the length just right, it was all manageable as well.
It is a little pricey ($ 50 for the cut/​shampoo, though I paid less on Groupon), so take that into account. But it’s definitely worth it!

Gentlemen shaves by women in lingerie. Could you ask for more?
Well, at least that’s what the gigantor poster on the wall shows, and what a great poster it is! But seriously, for gentlemen only, this grooming establishment has a nice list of services from haircuts, facial/​head grooming, shaves, hand/​foot treatments (manicures and massage), and… get this… a pool table and coffee bar to kick back in if you’re just in the mood for hanging out. And to round everything up, a shoeshine service on the premises. It is located right next to Delucca’s market, and right across Daisy’s.
I love this place. It oozes a slight element of sexiness, not just from the friendly staff, but also from the décor around the place that resonates the message «this is the way it SHOULD be for men.» It reminds me of those places in London or New York that know how to pamper guys without feeling too… foo foo.
The female haircutters are from various salons in the city and surrounding towns, very easy on the eyes, give great service, and best yet, let you catch any game you need on the flatscreen TVs.
The real challenge, was seeing how they handled my friend’s 5 year-​old son a couple days ago. I was impressed. Great job on the haircut by a very charming Rosa, they knew how to handle him, and they managed to keep him quiet. I observed the other gentlemen getting their haircuts and shaves, and they all seemed pretty satisfied.
I went back today, and got my hair cut by Valeria, a very sweet girl from Brazil, who did an outstanding job considering this was our first appointment. During this, I also got convinced by another staff member, who I’ll refer to as Über Milf Michelle, to come back for an old fashioned shave… how could I say no?
I even went overboard and got a manicure. When it was over, I didn’t have a lisp, and my hetero manhood was retained, and my fingers looked decent. As I went to pay the bill, I got coaxed into a shoe shine by Marvin, who delivered like Fedex.
The only thing missing from this place that would make it perfect? Hugh Hefner’s symbol in the corner. You’ll love this place. I think I’ve found my own personal Cheers.
