Hell on earth comes in the form of Bank of America’s Boston Chinatown branch. Of the two times I’ve waited in line for a teller, I’ve never had less than a 30 minute wait. The last time I went, it was AT LEAST 45 minutes. There were only 2 teller windows open each time and a «peppy young employee» (as another reviewer put it) who’s pretty much useless, walking around promoting the online deposit services. Would there be such atrocious service if this branch was located a few blocks down serving the well-​suited folks in the Financial District? I’ve heard others in line around me, Chinese and non-​Chinese customers alike, grumble about how this is a regular occurrence. It especially stinks for the people who only speak Chinese because clearly it’s the only branch where they can get services with people who speak the language, yet the branch is sorely understaffed. What a poor way to treat your minority customers, BoA.
I got sent a customer satisfaction survey from BoA a few days later with the following message: «Thank you for using Bank of America for your banking needs. Your feedback helps us understand how well we are meeting your expectations. Bank of America has commissioned MaritzCX, a marketing research firm, to help collect valuable customer feedback about your experience at the Bank of America branch you recently visited. This information will be used to help ensure the best possible experiences for you and other customers.» After asking for demographic information, the survey had a question about how I would rate my satisfaction with my teller, to which I selected a ⁴⁄₁₀. Immediately after clicking «next», the survey ended with a message telling me to contact the branch manager. BoA, you’re not even interested in hearing WHY I rated my transaction as unsatisfactory? (a 4 is still pretty generous). If your customer satisfaction survey is only interested in collating positive feedback and not even bothering to hear the negative input, it’s pretty clear that your organization doesn’t care about «ensuring the best possible experience» at all. Thanks for nothing, BoA.

Take your money and go elsewhere… Honestly they don’t even deserve half a star.
Sure they speak Chinese but you’re better off going to another bank in the Chinatown area.
What the problems are:

Sorry, since when were customers prioritized one another? This is America, I believe its first come first serve.
I stood in line and waited my turn BUT Oh I’m sorry I have to wait after EVERYONE else is done with their business until I can do mine?
Since when did account openers prioritize old loyal customers? Even if you did since when was it OK to make a customer wait 2 hours?
Obviously I’ve had to politely ask the service person around 3 times how long we still have to wait for… which finally ended in me complaining to the person in front managing the «registered guests». What did he do? Make us wait ANOTHER 10 minutes.
Then one of the employees said that his role was to only help new customers open accounts… so he has to finish helping people open their accounts before he could help us open up a credit card??? Does this even make sense?
Long story short. Don’t come to this bank. Don’t use BOA in general, they freaking lack in customer service. Go to Citibank next door, Santander next door they all speak Canto/​Mandarin too.

I used to enjoy coming to this branch of Bank of America. Sometimes there was a little bit of a wait, but the employees were friendly and I had no major complaints.
However, the last two times I have come to this location I have left feeling like I need to close my account as soon as possible. Standing in the line here wants to give me a stroke.
Today I needed to deposit a check over the counter. (OH THE HORROR… who deposits checks through humans anymore… the basic reaction I received from two different employees). As a technologically savvy adult, I am more than aware of their ATM and mobile deposit options. Seeing the nature of the size of the check the mobile deposit wasn’t a good option, and I didn’t feel like risking having the check chewed up by one of their ATMs.
I navigated my way into the line of about 10 customers. Ugh, I knew it was going to be a waste of the majority of my lunch. Instead of opening another window, this location chose to have several employees greeting customers, and only had 2 tellers working. I am pretty sure there are at least 6 teller slots.
While in the line of death, I was approached by a peppy, young employee who tried to sell me on the mobile and ATM deposit options. By this point I was visibly annoyed. I understand wanting to educate your customers, but don’t try to push me into using a service I don’t want to use. I mean at least be astute as to the limitations of the services you are trying to sell me on. Yes, young people sometimes do need to make larger deposits than the mobile technology can handle.
Fast forward 20 minutes, I FINALLY make it to the teller. Swipe my card blah blah blah. She is busy diddling around on her computer. She asks if I am making a deposit and I say yes. Then she asks me why I’m not depositing through the ATM or the app (okay, teller, do you want to have a job or not? It seems like you want a robot to do your job) I assertively say that I don’t trust doing a deposit of this nature through either, she laughs. I figure I am maybe about done with the transaction and can get back to my office and each my lunch. Oh no, she starts trying to sell me on credit cards and different banking services. And the kicker, she continues to sell me services after I say I am considering taking my banking elsewhere.
Needless to say, I am in the market for a new bank. Preferably one that’s not a pain to deal with.

Comically understaffed at peak hours, i.e. 2 out of 7 teller windows were being utilized. Waited over 30 minutes in line (and counting) just to withdraw money (an amount too large for the ATM to distribute).
I avoid this place at all costs yet I found myself with no choice today. Currently writing this review while STILL waiting in line.
Also, some lady walked in behind me and stood in front of me. I kindly told her that what she just did was hilariously absurd and she tells me she got here before me. I countered with apparent logic, and she says that her transaction will be faster than mine so it’s okay. Sigh.
I hate this place.

Spent an hour and a half just trying to close my account. I was helped to close the account fairly quickly then I had to wait in line to complete the withdrawal for over an hour because there were only two tellers (one for small business banking) helping at least 30 people and not doing it quickly. the manager saw this and did very little to help. This place needs help.

Over one hour wait just to close an account! I waited for almost ten minutes at the teller before someone came over and informed me that in fact, I had to register and wait for a branch staff before going to the teller. Thanks for letting me know now.
I was told there would be another 20 mins wait that turned into ANOTHER hour with no apologies or any communication initiated by the branch staff in between. When I finally spoke with the manager, he essentially told me that he was too busy and dismissed me to go sit down, make an appointment, or leave.
Certainly didn’t make me want to keep my account here at BoA at all. I understand the rationale of appointments, but to the point of excluding walk-​in customers without any prior announcement? Also, in case you are wondering, they certainly didn’t value their customers enough to care and inquire why I was closing my account. In the end, I closed my account at a different branch and took half the time.
I’ve visited numerous branches of various banks in the area for work and none of them have been this unprofessional, arrogant and condescending.

Why is this bank called Bank Of America when it cannot offer 24×7 service by humans? Just needed something «simple» while away from home but only A MACHINE IS available. Hello? Any Humans Out There? Seems they work when I cannot bank!!! One unintended answer I got — Seems I will need to take my business elsewhere… Thanks BoA for not being there (Oh, and see their lost or stolen note … Also states until 10pm… lol … 2014 and they allow you to stay screwed and unable to report a stolen card until they can have breakfast or get ready for dinner…) Time to check BBB & consumer report ratings as we all need a HERO — We need a financial institution that protects me; works for me … Too bad I did not do my due diligence before banking here. I digress. and got numb — sorry …

My experience here was much more pleasant than I’ve had else where at other banks. Normally, bank visits are avoided at all costs. I was also really surprised because most businesses in Chinatown aren’t really known to have great customer service, no matter what the business.
I was warmly greeted by the branch manager, who set me up with an appointment. I only had to wait a few minutes which was nice, since I was on my lunch break from school.
The banking associate that helped me was also very pleasant to work with. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. It was comforting that he was recommending services that he himself has used, so has personal experience with the pros and cons. He made sure to ask what my general life style is as well, in order to ensure that my needs were met and I could reap any future benefits to my fullest potential. He also helped to resolve a couple of issues that I had with my former campus edge checking account (which is no longer a service offered).
The branch manager came back to more formally welcome me to their «banking family» at the end of the visit.
Wonderful wonderful experience. I’m happy to know that I’ll be using this branch for the new few years while in Boston.

The service at this bank seems to have gotten much better than it has been in the past. Whenever I go, the same woman is always there to greet me, and I never have to wait in line too long. Today, I laughed when the teller asked me why I was depositing a check at the window instead of at the ATM machine just outside. «It’s just as easy and safe to make deposits at the machine», she said. I said «I prefer to deal with actual people’… If it weren’t for customers like me, she may not even have a job!

I have never been the biggest fan of banks. Unlike some of my friends I decided many years ago that hiding by paycheck under my pillow was not a wise idea.
This in one of the branches that I like better out of the branches in Boston. The lines tend to be rather reasonable and more importantly I have had good service every time that I have been in. I have no hesitation going in and having them help me out.
