Salon 788

I had a Global Keratin w Alisha with a touch up. She gave me the best keratin I have had in 4 years, better than
2 different downtown salons AND she was fast in and out in less than 2 hours. I was calling my friend and recommending Alisha before I got out of the lot. The decorating isn’t as chic as downtown but neither is the price. I’ll go back and I may try the eyelashes.

Let me start out by saying I am a caucasian woman with a mixed daughter. I have never taken her to a shop to get her hair done but brought her here today. I called ahead of time to get a price for a shampoo and flat iron for her hair and was told $ 45. We came in and three hours later she was done and I was told $ 60. I explained to her that I was told $ 45 on the phone. She told me that it was $ 60 becaused she pressed it. I didn’t even know what the difference was. I felt uncomfortable arguing so I paid and left.
Here are my issues.
#1. I was quoted a certain amount and that wasn’t honored.
#2. I wasn’t asked or told about anything additional being done to her hair.
#3. I was told after by friends that what she used was a hot comb and that my daughters hair did not need that at all and could have damaged her hair.
Bottom line is I really feel like I was taken advantage of because it looked like I didn’t know any better. I took my daughter here because I hace taken her to salons where they predominantly do white hair and they look at her like they don’t know what to do so I thought coming here they would know better than me the best thing to do for her hair.

I like this place but I don’t care for the products they use. They are very good with styling but after my second time of going my hair started drying out and I believe it was because they use Design Essential products, which I assume to be low on the totem pole compared to products such as Mizani, Morrocanoil, and Kera Care.

My stylist is Rae and I was recommended to this place a year ago and I really like this place. My hair has grown alot since before I started going here. They are really good at what they do. I would recommend this salon to others.

Great salon for those searching for something new in the western suburbs.
Why only 3 stars? I am used to a salon that has a lot more serenity than Salon 788 offered. It’s a store front, really no privacy, a busy parking lot, etc, also there is a surcharge for using your debit card.
They do have a great membership program where you get discounted services and a free service (deep conditioning, etc). It’s fairly reasonable.
I would have continued to go to this salon to avoid an 1 hour plus commute to my stylist in the downtown area, however we are moving back to the city area and I am going to continue to see her.
They do great hair but not may be the perfect solution for someone used to a high class city salon

My experience here may have just been an isolated one, but it was enough for me to say that I will not go back. I arrived for my Friday afternoon appointment about 5 – 10 minutes ahead of time, but I was kept waiting for over 30 minutes… this was strike number one. Once my hair was shampooed my stylist had me sit for another 15 or so minutes (not under a dryer mind you) while she worked on another person and then proceed to go outside to have a personal conversation. I was finally put under the dryer. She did an okay job styling my hair, but by the time I walked from the shop to the car, it didn’t look like much. I will say that she was definitely very much into healthy hair, which is a rarity in a lot of black salons that I’ve been to in the past. Like I stated before, it may just been an isolated incident, but first impressions really count for a lot.
