Description

Specialties

JBR’s BBQ is slooooooow cooked back yard style North Carolina Pulled Pork and tangy ribs with great country style sides. We seek to provide an authentic and consistent North Carolina/Southern BBQ experience with slow cooked meats made from quality and simple ingredients. We use an indirect heat cooking technique famous from the North Carolina region of the United States which gives the food a distinct hickory wood smoke flavor as well as delicious crispy and juicy pieces of meat that fall off the bone and can literally be pulled! We are the only place in the Treasure Valley with vinegar based sauces like they use in North Carolina — we have not found another place and trust us we have searched!

History

Established in 2013.

JBR’s BBQ started like most of the best BBQ places in the South along the road in the summer of 2013. JBR’s began serving slow cooked North Carolina style BBQ in Boise in front of the old Ustick Merc in West Boise on Friday nights and Saturdays and quickly established repeat customers who had not tried North Carolina BBQ previously and now understood what all the fuss was about or those who missed it after living in the South and had finally found their fix. Cold Idaho winters and the need to find a 7 day a week location brought JBR’s BBQ to the organizers of the Boise International Market which embraced this regionally authentic food as something that could be proudly shared as a unique and traditional food from the United States internationally. The name comes from «J» for Jimmy the Chicken Man the owner’s mentor who has been mastering North Carolina BBQ for over 20 years, «B» for Kevin Barry’s a great Irish hang out spot in Savannah, GA, and «R» for Ryan the founder of JBR’s BBQ.

Meet the Business Owner

Ryan H.

Business Owner

Ryan grew up in Boise, ID but became hooked on North Carolina BBQ after living and serving there in the Military. Ryan grew up learning to cook from his dad who was always dutch oven cooking and his grandfather who was a butcher and was always the family and community cook in the small Eastern Idaho town where he lived. Ryan has a passion for cooking authentic North Carolina style BBQ and simple Southern/Country meals. Ryan has spent years working on his barbecuing techniques and after shipping some secret North Carolina BBQ sauce supplied to him by Jimmy the Chicken man in 2 liter Libby Juice and Pepsi bottles Ryan found a base sauce recipe and tinkered with it until he came up with his own secret recipe for the right balance of vinegar based tang that all great North Carolina and Southern BBQ sauces deliver. If you are looking for sweet or spicy BBQ sauces you can go to your grocery store but if you are looking for a vinegary tang you can make a trip to North Carolina or go to JBR’s
