Twin Oaks Tavern Winery

My fiancé and I took a drive out to this winery to hear a musician that we were considering for our wedding later this year. The winery is beautiful and quaint. The views are spectacular and the tasting room is cozy. Upon arrival the staff was super friendly. We spent some time speaking to the owner, Donna, who is a very pleasant, interesting and accomplished lady. We each had a glass of Cabernet which was good and we snacked on some warm bread and salami. By the end of the visit we secured the wedding musician we had come to hear and left thinking we’d love to return with friends in the future. The winery is also dog friendly.

What better way to spend a rainy, foggy Sunday afternoon with good friends! A beautiful spot — can’t wait to see it on a sunny day from the patio. Ken Wenzel provided great entertainment! I would have to say my only complaint was that the tasting pours were not enough to really evaluate the wines. Having visited wineries since the 1980’s I have a good idea of what a tasting should be. We wanted to buy a bottle to drink there and enjoy some snacks but had a really hard time deciding which wine to buy and I needed to ask for another drop.

3.5 stars; Twin Oaks has a decent selection of wines, friendly service, and beautiful views. With 3 acres under vine they end up getting grapes from out of state. There wasn’t any particular wine I loved, but nothing I disliked. But the ambiance is enough for me to want to go back, especially with a picnic.
3 tasting options are offered; a partial $ 7 tasting, $ 12 for the full 11 wine flight, or a $ 3 fruit wine only tasting. Their wine is among the most reasonably priced I’ve seen in the area: the most expensive was only $ 24! That might be because technically this is part of Shenandoah, not Loudoun.
As many have noted, Twin Oaks has one of the nicer views in the area; while it doesn’t have the same sweeping views nearby Bluemont has, it does have a more secluded feel to it. And as the name implies, it does have a super-​cozy vibe. Lacking Bluemont’s crowds is definitely a plus.
As for the wine…
Whites & Fruit: The 2013 Chardonnay had tart apple nose and woody taste. Not bad, although I thought the 2014 vintage they also served was better. The 2013 Chard/​Reisling blend was pretty good. The Peach and Raspberry wines I thought were just OK. The Vidal had a nice tropical palate.
Reds: The Oregon-​grown Zinfandel had raspberry notes. The 2013 Bordeaux style Raven Rock Red was nice and spicy, and only $ 23. The Norton had a dark chocolate or cherry palate.
One unique thing is they had a «Spice Chiller», which was described as Christmas in a glass. Even more Christmas-​y was the mulled wine. Both were made from the same Raven Rock base, and were pretty good; maybe my favorites of the entire menu.

This place is beautiful outside and the tasting room is very cozy. However, I’ve never had staff at a winery as rude as the owner was here. Came here with a large group for a tasting and she acted annoyed that she had to serve us at a table rather than at the bar. And we offered to go to the bar for the tasting — there just wasn’t space. As we were leaving she caused a huge commotion that someone left a clear wrapper on the table and claimed we were leaving trash and not being respectfull — honestly, no one saw it and I’m not sure it was worth causing a stir over. We grabbed it and threw it away, not a big deal. Will not return.

Such a quaint cozy little tavern. Nice live music in the background. Very friendly staff. Beautiful scenery. What more could you want?

The Twin Oaks has great wine, great atmosphere, and the Best View!

The 3 stars are for the view alone. The tasting area was cramped and uninviting. Wines were unimpressive. Their Norton is simply horrible; reminiscent of cough syrup. I can’t believe they even bottled it to sell to the public. They had one white that was decent and drinkable, but that’s not enough to bring us back for a second visit. Go across route 7 to Bluemont Vineyard. The view and the wines are so much better!

We were driving by on Rt 7 and saw a VA Wine Tour sign for this winery and just had to stop. We were happy to pull up and see a beautiful building and once we parked and saw the views off their deck, over the hill, we were so very happy we came!
They have stunning views from the top of a mountain, looking west. Their tasting room is beautiful and very quaint with exposed timber roof truss beams.
The tasting we experienced was just ok. Customer service seemed friendly and definitely descriptive, but the wines were not what we typically like to enjoy. They just didn’t appeal to us.
Would we go back? If we could bring our own wine! LOL Actually, we might go back in the winter to see the view with all the leaves off the trees. They did have a couple of wines would could tolerate to enjoy the view.

The venue is beautiful with historic buildings and a great view. The «tavern» is well decorated and there are plenty of spaces to sit. The wine, on the other hand, is far from spectacular. I work at a vineyard and have tasted a lot of wine. I didn’t care for any of the wines on their tasting menu. I brought my children with because I was told «Santa» worked here. He unfortunately, wasn’t there, but Mrs. Claus was. I was hoping she would play the part for the kids, but she kind of ignored us. I guess she didn’t want to confuse them but it would have been nice if she played along. Also, didn’t receive my industry discount which was a bummer as well. I don’t think we’ll be going back.

By far my absolute favorite winery in the northern Virginia area. The owner and staff are all amazing. You have to meet Fred he was the icing on the cake for us! Their wines are DELICIOUS! I am absolutely in love with there Zinfendal! Best I have had in awhile. I also realy enjoy their white knight, rave rocks red, and norton! Pretty much all of their wines are good. They have live music o the weekend.
The views from the patio are breathtaking and the inside is a sweet little warm cabin feel. All around great wine and a great atmosphere! This is a must go!!!

I’ll keep this review simple. I love this place. It is awesome and makes me appreciate living in Virginia and being so close to the mountains. I came to this place once to do some wine tasting and the staff there was very kind! In terms of the environment, it is nestled off of a beaten path with magical views. So if you need a place to de-​stress, come on over! It is a short drive from D.C. and about 30 minutes away from Sterling. Furthermore, it is located near Bears Den, so after a nice sip of wine, swing by Bears Den to catch the sunset.

We had a group of 19 which pre arranged our visit to this winery. We were very disappointed by the personality of the owner. She was very unfriendly. The service at this winery was lousy. We all will warn our friends to skip this vineyard. Oh and most importantly the wine was terrible.

This winery is located a little off the beaten path with a gorgeous view, large outdoor patio, and small tasting room. Their tasting room is open until 6 pm most days, and we showed up around 4 pm on a Sunday. We were looking for somewhere we could do a wine tasting and then buy a bottle to enjoy outside with some picnic food we brought, and Twin Oaks offered all of this with an awesome view.
Inside, there was a small group of people listening to live music — folk versions of popular songs. It almost seemed like they were closed for business or a private party though, because we were given the cold shoulder right away. After waiting for several minutes to be acknowledged, we ordered the wine tasting for 4 people. Instead of explaining about each wine that was poured, the lady behind the counter just mumbled the name of the wine («this is zinfandel») and poured less than one ounce of each taste, which didn’t even seem like enough to form an opinion.
We did not feel like driving back down to the main road and going somewhere else at this point in the day, so we bought a couple bottles and hung out on the patio. The wine itself was very good, compared to others in the area. At 5:50, realizing the tasting room was about to close, a couple people went inside to get another glass of wine. The woman working there was extremely rude, saying «last call was 5:45» and turned her back. About 10 minutes later, she came out and announced that they were closed, in a tone that meant she was kicking us out. It’s understandable if they need to clear out promptly at 6, but she could have given us some notice, and what really bothered us was how rude she was about it. We were also really surprised that they would sell people a glass of wine as late as 5:45 (last call), and then kick them out at 6. I’m not sure if it’s always like this at Twin Oaks, but it was clear that we weren’t welcome that day.

We were not very impressed. The views were amazing and the decks were a very nice setting for sipping wine. However, the wines were not very good. I liked the
Norton the best but they all seemed to have a thin flavor. Also, the tasting experience was not very welcoming. The servers were busy serving many customers at the same time and when not doing that they took out the trash. Explanation about the wines or winery was minimal. With all the competition in louden county we expected more.

Came here last weekend because I saw it on the map right next to our hike of the day, glad we did.
We had our dog with us, which the owners are very dog friendly so that is always great. The staff was friendly, the view was great, the decks were nice. As far as wines go, they have several that I enjoyed. 7 a glass isnt bad. Great spot to picnic and just relax.
I have seen other reviews on here about a $ 3 tasting? We definitely didnt get any tasting for $ 3, we got charged 7. Also someone said that gets waived if you buy a bottle? Ours wasn’t. Those reviews were from 2012 though so maybe it just changed over time? Just a heads up.
I will definitely be back though as the spot is just awesome.

Great little place. Was the wine the best I have ever had? Not really, but it was good. What they did have was nice friendly staff and a great relaxing place with live music when I visited. It was nice to sit outside and listen to the music and enjoy a glass of wine. I look forward to going back soon.

Walking up to Twin Oaks Tavern feels a bit like walking in Disney or Great Adventure where the cutesy rock on the outside. For a small winery, the grape vines on property are impressive and the view of the mountains is beautiful and serene. There’s an outside deck where you can sit in nice weather, take in the scenery while enjoying a glass of wine and live music. Don’t make the mistake of squeezing in Twin Oaks Tavern Winery into your wine tasting itinerary and getting there a half hour before tasting as they staff will not be thrilled and are not the best at hiding it. We got a half hour, want to taste your nectar from the NOVA wine gods and if we like anything, we’ll buy– We’re just happy to be here.
On to our speedy Gonzales wine tasting:
Chardonnay, White nights Riesling blend was nice and pleasant, Peach wine,
Raspberry wine, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon– hints of bell pepper sounded intriguing and did not disappoint. I enjoyed this cabernet sauvignon and appreciated it’s uniqueness– Took home a bottle!, Norton, Raven Rocks Red, Wine slushy– delish! I could totally come here and enjoy this cold slushy or warm mulled depending on season.
Aside from an initial chilly reception upon arrival, Twin Oaks Tavern redeemed itself with their pet friendly welcoming– the owner just loved our Charlie pup and their above average wines. Would advise for next visit and for Unilocaler’s visits to stop at Twin Oaks earlier in their wine touring itinerary.

Proportionally, I liked a lot of their wines since we only tasted so few. I ended up purchasing their chardonnay and Raven Rocks Red (worth a note since this is the first bottle of red wine I’ve bought from a Virginia winery — I just don’t like most reds made here for some reason). The much-​anticipated (since it was one of the first very few wines I’ve had made from this varietal) Norton did not speak to me; but the Raven Rocks Red has a pleasantly balanced and well-​bodied texture that I usually appreciate.
The tasting room is cute, with grapes’ names written overhead on different panels. The winery itself is pretty small, with no expansive land to roam around and marvel at nature or imagine a wedding taking place, but the wines are pretty solid. The outside patio is great for picnics while overlooking the valley.
Our server seemed pretty unenthused while hosting us. Of course I wish she could’ve been a bit friendlier, but that didn’t take away too much from our experience.

Quite the gem. Tucked down a road with only a tiny sign to point you in the right direction from route 7… its exceptional. Lovely tasting room, beautiful view of the far-​out countryside and the small vineyard itself just below the attached terrace. They are small with a focus on quality you can taste.
Worth the drive and worth the price of a bottle to enjoy the clean air, quiet seclusion, and did I mention the spectacular view.
The wine hostess was just as sweet as could be and very knowledgeable, definitely enjoyed her company as we sipped on the terrace.

After an enjoyable tasting at the more commercialized and crowded Bluemont Vineyards, we headed down the road to Twin Oaks Tavern. With only one Unilocal review — albeit positive — I didn’t quite know what to expect. What we found was an absolutely pleasant surprise, a winery owned by a Maryland woman whose heart (and hobby) resides in rolling Virginia wine country. And who can blame her?
Twin Oaks’ tasting room is tucked away in the Loudoun countryside, a rustic, woodland retreat with cantilevered decks overlooking the vines below. Looking at David R.‘s tasting room pictures from over a year ago, they don’t resemble *at all* the tasting room we saw (thank goodness — those pics look cheesy!). We entered and set ourselves up at the smallish bar and were helped by Michelle whose enthusiasm for Twin Oaks’ wines was infectious. Twin Oaks is a *tiny*, three acre outfit, producing between 250 — 300 cases annually and tasting three to four wines at a time.
Michelle expertly took us through the tasting, beginning with a lovely 2011 Chardonnay, aged six months in French oak. It was followed by a 2010 Raven Rocks Red, a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. Its green pepper aroma and flavor tickled my nose and throat. The last wine was a 2011 Norton with plum-​y, jammy notes up-​front and a spicy finish.
The modest $ 3 tasting fee is waived at Twin Oaks if you simply purchase a bottle of wine afterwards. Husband and I picked up a Raven Rocks Red to enjoy later at home; if we hadn’t had more wineries on the agenda that day, I definitely could have passed a generous amount of time sipping vino on the back deck, noshing on Twin Oaks food offerings of cheese, breads, or nuts. If you find yourself in the area, definitely make the detour on over here.
