Tweetsie Railroad

REVIEW IS ONLY FOR THE GHOST TRAIN/​HALLOWEEN ACTIVITIES. We have been to Tweetsie during a previous trip to Blowing Rock and my then 10, 7, and 4 year olds loved it. So we felt certain that the Ghost Train and Halloween festivities would be perfect for my eldest son’s 12^th birthday because it was something our whole family would enjoy. Unfortunately, it is not geared toward Tweetsie’s typical younger audience, BUT you don’t find that out until after you get in the door. Most of the advertised Halloween fun, (i.e. Ghost Train, Freaky Forest, Haunted House, etc.) is not recommended for kids under the age of 8. Well, I beg to differ that videos on the Ghost Train ride of bloodied dead bodies and people being hunted and killed are appropriate for 8 year olds. My 9 year old wouldn’t go to sleep that night and we buried my 6 year old’s head in my husband’s coat the whole train ride, which of course devastated my son that he couldn’t see the train ride. That was after our 45 min wait in line.
I went in knowing it was a «Ghost» train, but I thought it would still be age-​appropriate for Tweetsie’s target market. Likewise, I assumed the Haunted House and other festivities would have been geared toward younger kids. We expected to be «startled» or «scared» a bit, but we couldn’t even take our kids to the Haunted House because it was a REAL haunted house. They should have absolutely disclosed that before the money was spent. Once we realized the activities were inappropriate it was 9:00pm and my son’s birthday was almost over and Tweetsie was supposed to have been our «fun» birthday event. Another lady in line with younger kids was very upset about spending the money and not being able to do anything age appropriate.
Not to mention that it attracted A LOT of teenagers so what my kids heard standing in line was interesting. One guy wore a t-​shirt that described a sex «act» he likes to perform.

Was in town visiting, went to the Halloween special event! Everyone was happy and smiling and laughing, everyone who was working was the same way! The haunted house was intense! I did like at the end even after they closed, they didn’t rush a soul out! Way to go!

So cute is the railroad that the terror that is the carnival rides can be overlooked. Good for families never saw one rowdy person, nothing but fun for the kids, food is terrible so bring your own, though the fudge shop was very good. The mini animal zoo is cut and fun to see some small animals. The gold and gem panning seems a novelty but my children are too young for it. A nice sky chair was fun as was the main train itself. A bit on the pricey side for a train ride and some low rent carnival rides but still fun.

This is a racist amusement park that teaches kids to beat up and shoot at Indians. If you’re a racist person and want to pay $ 41 so your children will think that Indians are bad people then you should come here. If you want your children to learn to respect all people then this is not the place for you.

A true gem! Adorable amusement park in the mountains that is especially great for kids under 10. The staff was AMAZING! We have been to all the major theme parks and I have to say that these are truly the nicest and friendliest folks around. Every single person we talked to was amazing– from the ferris wheel operator to the photographers in the western dress up shop to the feed seller at the petting zoo and the lady who made the fresh squeezed lemonade… simply the nicest people ever! They made you feel like they wanted you to be there! The park was clean, the prices were very affordable, and they even have free parking!!! My 9 year old son loved it!

What a great family place. In the mountains old west themed amusement park. Reminds me of when i came hete 40 years ago as a 5 year old. Today we ate here with my 5 year old and I feel like I’m back in time.
Clean will run polite employees who still care about customer service. Best place for kids around 5 – 10 years old.

It was a fun day! We went for the fourth of July, 2015. The price seemed a little high for the adults. The rides are pretty good for a small park. The Fireworks were pretty awesome. I think it’s a been there done that, more than likely will not go back.

You can’t beat Tweetsie for a day of family fun while visiting the mountains. There are tons of rides, shows, and other activities (petting zoo, gold panning, etc…) to more than fill your day. I have been to tweetsie with kids ranging from 18 months to 18 years and there is so much for everyone! Absolutely worth the admission price. Make it a family tradition!

I came here with my cousin and her two boys (three and eight), and they absolutely loved it. The Tweetsie train ride was longer than I expected, with two breaks for skits. The other rides were varied so that little kids had options and bigger kids had faster and scarier options. The prices are a bit steep in my opinion, but what can you really do about that? They have a ski lift that you can ride to get to the top of the park, as well as a bus. There’s a small area for feeding animals, and plenty of places to grab some popcorn or souvenirs.
Check it out if you’re in the area!

This place blows. Expensive and dull. It’s a joke. Not suitable for children. Promotes violence and gun use.

How can you not love Tweetsie! This place is great for families with fun rides and awesome entertaining shows. Suggest getting there early if you want to watch all the shows. I was there when their speciality show was the K9 show… LOVED IT!!!
The rides are like fair rides and vary on intensity, which is also a good variety. Have to see the can can girls and ride the train.
Enjoyed their lemondae… pricey for the 1^st drink… but refills aren’t too bad.
Suggestion– got discount tickets at a near by hotel. Saved $ 3/​ticket.

My group of 10 had a wonderful day at tweetsie. This park is geared towards kids, but even the adults in our party had fun. This park takes a full day to get through everything, but unless you like to really repeat things, I don’t think a second day is necessary. The park is clean and the staff is very friendly. The food in the park is mostly burgers, pizza, and fried stuff. I would have liked to see some healthy food options. I felt that the ticket prices were reasonable for what the park had to offer. I would make a return trip to this park. Parking was easy and with a hand stamp I could go to my car as needed.

We just had the perfect day with our family at Tweetsie! If you love trains or have kids age 7 or under this is THE place to go. The staff is super friendly, the rides are age appropriate, and we had a blast! We enjoyed the shows, from Wild West, to cloggers, to magicians; got our faces painted, and enjoyed the arcade. Our third visit will not be our last!

This is a steady 2 for
me. It’s good for little ones under 10 in my opinion. For $ 40 for Adults, the price tag is high. For kids, It’s $ 26.
Kids was worth it. I have 2 little ones under 5. One was 2, so he was free. The steam train ride is definitely the highlight. Not a lot of rides, but ones there good for them. They have a pretty good sized petting zoo with pet food in cone for 50 cents so that was good deal.
Snacks were reasonably priced. However the regular food places were expensive and mediocre taste at best. We spent $ 50 for 3 adults and 2 young kids and although expensive didn’t finish our food as it was just ok.
We have Disneyland annual passes and although good can be pricey there, food is always delicious and has good portions so in comparison to that it’s a big difference. The souvenirs were very overpriced and could have gotten some similar smaller items at dollar stores.
I expected more for our money here. Good for one time experience

A huge rip off for the price. If this place was half the price it maybe would be ok. Other than the train there is not much worth the admission. The rides are atiquated county fair type rides and a chair lift, whoa. Save your money and take your kids somewhere they will have more to do. Hard to believe this place is still open.

Very cool set up and you get a lot for the price of admission. $ 35 adults $ 22 kids. Spotless bathrooms too.

CHOO CHOO!!! If your kids (or yourself) have trains on the brain, then you would be INSANE to miss out on Tweetsie Railroad! Though I have to stress the «kids» part, because this is strictly a place for them young varmits. Tweetsie does have some fun for people of all ages, but it is definitely not worth the price of admission.
Tweetsie Railroad is tucked away in the hills/​mountains of Blowing Rock, and getting there is a thrill ride in itself (in regards to the twisting mountain road with no shoulder or guardrails at certain points.) If you survive the trek there, you will soon come across the quaint «theme park» of Tweetsie. It is a Western-​themed kid park with some carnival rides thrown in to give it something more. I will say that the staff are friendly and the cowboys, Native Americans and flappers you may run across seemed more then happy to stop and pose for a picture. Also have to give kudos to the cleanliness of the park. But I do have to stress that the ticket price is up there, asking $ 35 per adult and $ 22 per kid. That’s a heck of a lot, when Carowinds charges $ 44 per adult but has a lot more to offer adults in terms of entertainment. Why the adults have to pay so much when there is so little for them to do is beyond me, but those are the financial facts.
The main attraction at Tweetsie Railroad is the train ride. Every half hour a large train pulls in near the main entrance, and once you board you take a ride that also involves a short show in which bandits attempt to rob the train and take the sheriff hostage until some Native Americans show up and save the day. A word of warning… most of the action occurs on the right side of the train, so make sure you get a seat there. Luckily our niece and nephew were on the right side so they had front row seats to the show. The miss’ and I had grabbed seats on the left side, and I was unable to see anything that was going on. It didn’t bother me too much, but I would have been frustrated if the kids had been on the left and were not able to see the show.
Aside from the train ride, there are a bunch of carnival rides to go on. The majority of them are geared to children only, but some of the rides were good for adults (though most of them involved intense spinning, which is stuff that I can’t handle.) There are also some live character shows to watch which are geared towards kids. There is also a feeding zoo that has some goats, deer and other critters like that. They are behind a fence so it’s not like a free-​for-​all petting zoo but some of the goats do manage to get out and will be roaming about looking for some feed or clothing to eat.
Tweetsie also has some craft and souvenir shops. Don’t be surprised by all the kids running around in cowboy hats shooting cap guns at each other, and for a price your kids could join in on the rootin tootin fun. There are a couple of different dining choices which are your usual theme park fair (burgers, hot dogs, pizza) but the price is decent and the quality was surprisingly good, compared to what I’ve had to stomach at other parks.
This review probably comes off harsher than it should. If a child was rating it, I’m, sure they would give it five stars all the way around, because there is plenty for them to do. However, when looking at it from a paying adult’s perspective, I feel that Tweetsie is lacking in some respects. Purchasing your ticket feels like you’re being held-​up by wild west bandits as I don’t feel that you get your moneys worth compared to other theme parks. If your kids are crazy about cowboys and trains then they will love going to Tweetsie, but don’t expect to get as much entertainment value yourself as you would at other theme parks.

I would prefer to give this place 0 stars if possible.
They have one main attraction… a train ride. Yes, i suppose if your kids love trains… they might love this… but the cost is obnoxious, especially for larger families.
Let me put it in perspective, it costs $ 40 for a 6 Flags adult ticket. $ 40 for 100s of rides and attractions. It costs $ 34 for an adult ticket at Tweetsie. Please tell me you think that is absurd? They have approximately 6 rides and a train. It costs ~ $ 140 for a 4 day pass at Disneyworld. The internationally known amusement park costs ($ ¹⁴⁰⁄₄) $ 1 more per day than Tweetsie, located in Blowing Rock, NC.
Let’s not forget their generous support of America’s men and women in uniform. $ 3 off the adult ticket price for US Military. Busch Gardens (again 100s of rides and attractions) has been honoring the US Military for years with a Here’s to the Heroes salute and giving FREE admission to the park.
This place is a disgrace. It is a complete rip off. If you need to find something for your kids to do in blowing rock while you’re trying to enjoy the foliage… take them to an ASU football game, or on a hike… or anything else, but don’t patronize Tweetsie, they don’t deserve your money.
Oh, and by the way, I’m saying all this even though I got a free ticket from someone and I only had to pay for my wife. It wasn’t worth the admission for one adult.
THM (Take Home Message): This place should be going out of business rather than expanding. They don’t deserve your hard earned dollars. Because it is the most kid friendly attraction in this part of the state… they have survived… and probably thrived. It doesn’t make it right. The American way is for quality to match cost. Tweetsie should not enjoy a single dollar more for the quality they put out.

If you have kids who love trains, (which I know many of you do!) you have to take a trip to Tweetsie Railroad.
Families love this historic site & the train ride on «No. 12» alone is enough to make the trip worth it! Enjoy the sites & watch out for Indians, Cowboys, & a robbery! There are also rides, a small animal petting area, shops & resturaunts, so you can make a day out of it.
They have huge month long Halloween festival every year & a «Day with Thomas the Train».
The ticket prices will definitely give you «sticker shock», but hey, it’s for the kids, right? :)

Tweetise is a must if you have kids under 10. It has been a tradition with my husband’s family and now our own. Each year the park does a Day Out w/​Thomas and we participated this year.
The park is nestled in between Blowing Rock proper and Boone, NC. It’s also very near the Blueridge Parkway which of course is very scenic and beautiful on its own.
The theme of Tweetsie is your classic cowboy and indians and comes complete with a steam engine that takes passengers on a 25 minute ride around the park.
The employees are friendly, the park is clean. This is truly a great place to go with young kids and get a hang of theme parks. There are plenty of places to sit and relax or have lunch with the kids. There are rides for both the little ones and the adults but it isn’t over the top.
We will be making this a yearly trip!
