The Tailored Fit

Took a suit and suit pants to be tailored and couldn’t be happier with the results. The hem on the pants was perfect, and the suit jacket looks great! Service was amazing and the people running the business were extremely helpful. Will definitely be going back to get some shirts fitted!

The only place i will ever get my garments altered! As usual i came in last minute and needed pants taken in along with an intricate jacket that i wear for horseback competitions. Not only did they do an amazing job they also had my garments done within a week and at what i thought was a completely reasonable price. Margaret is truly the best and her staff does amazing work! They are extremely prompt and professional. The Tailored FIt is the place to go!

Margaret is wonderfully talented tailor! I highly recommend her for the smallest to largest tailoring project you might have… She is a professional through and through and goes over and above to fulfill your requests. Try her for yourself and you’ll be as impressed as I am!

«A wedding day disaster.»
My husband and I were married back home in Savannah, Georgia. I moved up here, however, and took my wedding gown to The Tailored Fit for the necessary alterations (take it in at the waist and hem it). She gave us an estimate of $ 400. I arrived for my second fitting and was horrified when I discovered my wedding gown hem had been cut and hemmed FOUR INCHES TOO SHORT! I took photos of it while I was in the dressing room and wish I could upload them for everyone to see. There was a minor one inch hem of fabric left, so there was no way of correcting it easily.
I fell apart because the wedding was in a month and this was my dream dress. Instead of handling it professionally by apologizing and actually showing me some compassion when I was clearly devastated, the owner chose to convince me that I was pulling the gown too high underneath my arms, when it was designed to wear it that way. She insisted on pulling the bust part down low enough so the hem didn’t to look too short in the front and actually tried to convince me it looked good with the structured bust area well below where my natural bust is. I looked at her, with her one of assistants there, and said, d said, «Are you serious? You think I’ll look good like this when I lift my arms over my head to throw my bouquet?» I raised my arms to mimic the motion and my breasts came completely out of the top of the dress and sat there like they were sitting on a shelf. She had nothing to say.
I was extremely upset, and yet again, instead of having the integrity to take responsibility for it, she blamed her assistant and told me she’d somehow fix it. To add insult to injury, she handed us a final bill for $ 800 when we picked up the gown! When I asked why she doubled it, she had the audacity to say, «Well, it took a lot of work to deconstruct the dress enough to fix the short hem.» I was stunned, and so broken-​hearted because the dress was still noticeably short and it definitely affected how I felt that day. There’s nothing worse than finding the perfect dress for you and someone making you feel more than a little self-​conscious on your own wedding day. It was a «high-​water» dress by the time she got finished with it.
I paid her and left because I was under so much stress trying to finish up all the wedding details in Georgia and I just couldn’t deal with it. Our photographer’s had to spend over many, many hours editing all the wedding photos, so you couldn’t tell my gown was too short. Our wedding story was chosen for a national publication in a popular wedding magazine, but I refused to acknowledge The Tailored Fit business as a contribution to our day. It would have been incredible marketing for the business to use for years.
I would never send anyone to this shop, because I also saw other work she was doing on a military officer’s jacket and the coat’s sleeve and arm seams looked terrible. She states she’s «couture» trained, but I saw nothing to prove that to me. If you don’t have the ability to successfully alter highly structured garments, you shouldn’t be in the business.

Margaret is the best! I’ve been taking my tailoring to her for over a year now, and she always does excellent work. She has done some fairly complex suit tailoring for me (including taking a jacket in through the shoulders and narrowing pant legs), and the results have always exceeded my expectations. Moreover, I trust her eye. Oftentimes I am dissatisfied with the fit of an item I’ve purchased, but I can’t quite put my finger on what the problem with it is. Margaret has a knack for spotting the problems and knowing exactly how to fix them. I don’t have to tell her what to do; she knows how clothes should fit and she makes it happen. I would add that her pricing is incredibly reasonable, especially considering the quality of the workmanship, and she has always been able to get things back to me within a reasonable amount of time. I always refer friends and colleagues to her, even a few in Indy (she’s worth the trip!). I cannot recommend her highly enough.

The Tailored Fit just hit another homerun for me! Over the past 6 years, I have continued to become more impressed with the quality of work, the level of customer care, and the reasonable prices, with each passing task I need them to perform; whether a custom fitting or a very timely emergency alteration. .. the rescue team at the Tailored Fit has earned my wholehearted recommendation.

I went to Margaret with my wedding dress, and she did excellent work. In the busy time leading up to my wedding, the dress fittings were an un-​stressful bright spot. I always felt that my dress was safe in her hands, and she did an amazing job despite heavy fabric and a tricky hemline. If you want the best, look no further.

I took my dress there because of the positive review online, but I was beyond disappointed. My dress costed $ 180 and took one month, and I was asked to do fitting for 3 or 4 time in between. I don’t think my bridesmaid dress is all that special, and I am a size 4 standard figure. I wasn’t satisfied with quality of the dress– the winkles on the side didn’t go away. Her attitude was very unprofessional, and she kept blaming on how the dress was poorly made. She asked me to leave without concerning about the the final outcome of the dress. In general, bad service, expensive, inefficient, and poor quality. Try if you only need a simple and basic work done.

Margaret is the absolute best! She taught for years at IU in fashion and couture sewing, her students win awards, she can do anything, what more could you want?
