The Chateau of Bloomington

This is the nicest hotel in town, and the rates are very reasonable, most likely because it’s in an unusual location so people aren’t aware of it. Weekday rates are now as low as $ 50. I’ve been coming to this hotel since I was a kid, back when it was Jumers. It is still a very classy place with a unique, non-​corporate chain appeal. The pool/​hot tub/​saunas/​gym are all functioning and first rate, which is a big deal for me, and often they’re left open after hours for late night swimmers.

This place is BEAUTIFUL!!! I can’t believe my husband found it on
for only $ 50/​night! It’s a gorgeous building outside and in — chandeliers, fireplace, ornate wooden bookshelves. The hot tub is huge and the pool is warm. The gym feels open and has a nice amount of equipment. The room is comfy, has a microwave and fridge, a decent sized TV and a large tub in the bathroom. We’ve already said that we would come back to Bloomington just to stay at this hotel!

I stayed here with my teenage daughter while attended ISU’s Preview for orientation. The drive to the school was real easy and only less than 10 minutes away. Across the street is strip mall, with Target, Flat Top and Cold Stone to name a few. The indoor pool was nice and a good temp. I don’t usually swim at hotels but this one was enjoyable. The room was nice for the price. I paid under $ 165 for two nights. No complaints on pricing. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

I’ve been here many times for meetings and they’ve always been top notch. But they have new ownership now after Jumers sold out. It was great when I went there.

I don’t know why the reviews of this place aren’t better. This is a very unique hotel, love the antique furniture scattered along the hallways and in the lobby, beautiful façade & main entrance. Very friendly staff. The beds are comfy, pillows are fine, typical hotel blanket, all is clean. It ain’t the Ritz but for $ 80 it is very nice. Pleasantly surprised. They have a pool and a good gym with a couple of treadmills & an eliptical cardio machine, plus a bunch of machines for upper/​lower body. Easy parking. Highly recommend!

I have stayed there a few times at a discounted rate through the travel sites. I cant say anything really bad or good about the place. I paid 59 for a single queen bed and really cannot complain. The bedding has seen better days and the pillows are more the size of throw pillows but whatever its nicer than a motel 6. Tona Romas (located in the hotel) is nice, reasonably priced, and has a nice bar. The pool area (indoors) is nice as well. I would certainly stay here again for the same type of deal.

This place is outdated and run down. From the outside you think this place has to be nice but then when you get to your room it’s the same quality as Motel 6 or Super 8.
Our beds had stained sheets on them. The shower had someone else’s hair in it. The coffee machine had some foreign substance in it as well.
Other occupants were loud and trashy.
Wouldn’t recommend at all.

I’ve stayed in lots of hotels — I’m in sales — and this one is totally mediocre. It’s an old property and it shows. My room was on the first floor in the 120s. I walked in and it immediately smelled like mildew. Nothing is updated and the bed is nothing special. I would try somewhere else next time I’m in Bloomington.

The Château of Bloomington is reminiscent of a Disney castle… more specifically the old, dark, abandoned, spooky wing of the Beast’s castle in Beauty and the Beast.
It certainly lacks in modern charm and could use a bit of Mrs. Potts’ sprucing up, but otherwise it’s a perfectly adequate place to stay.
If you have kids young enough to not notice the shabbiness of this plot, they’ll probably love the faux castle feel to it. If I were a kid I’d love staying here for that… I know the zillion little beauty pageant participants who were also staying here on the weekend we stayed enjoyed it because I could hear them reveling in it through the paper thin walls of the hallway and rooms below ours. Luckily, we were on the top floor with no sounds from above and luckily the mini pageant queens had to be up early for their primping so it was lights out by 11pm.
Parking here can be a tad outrageous in the evenings. You may have to park around the not-​so-​well-​lit sides and back of the building and one thing to be noted on our stay is that the people who stay here park like assholes. They must be from some region of the state where it’s kosher to park the center of your car directly over the painted yellow parking lines, because how at least 20% of the people staying here park.
The front desk staff were quick with checking us in, though a little direction to the elevator, our room, or the other hotel amenities (I believe they have a pool, though we never found it). We definitely got turned around a few times on our fairly long walk to our room.
Our room with 2 queen beds was pretty huge. We had a dresser, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, flat screen tv, desk, and a full bathroom with an added extra vanity mirror and sink outside the bathroom to make getting ready a bit easier.
Wifi was free but you’ll likely find the bigger issue of locating an outlet in your room. Ours had exactly ZERO outlets outside of the bathroom that weren’t already in use by a necessary light and with the wall outlet blocked by the practically cemented nightstand.
One thing that’s really nice is it’s location to other things. Right across the street from Target, a rather nice brew pub, and various other mall shop and eateries. Makes staying away from the comforts of home all that much more comfortable.
Overall this place is totally fine for a short-​term stay and you’ll get to feel like you’re somewhere in between Cinderella’s Castle and The Haunted Mansion.

We stayed at the Château this past weekend. We will not stay at this hotel again or recommend it to anyone:
–Housekeeping did not ‘refresh’ our room or products on ²⁄₈
–There were holes in the blanket on the bed (and as cold as it was, there was only 1 thin blanket on the bed)
–The towels were threadbare and very scratchy
–Tried calling the front desk several times and no one answered.
–The mattress was broken down on one side of the bed.
–The incline on one of the treadmills did not work properly.
We stay at many hotels through the year and this is not up to any standard. It’s too bad because it’s nice looking on the outside.

I was given a certificate to stay there and was a bit leery based on bad reviews, but we had a great time. The indoor pool was decent sized (newer places are often too small) and Warm, the included breakfast included options beyond just continental (I had waffles.), and the antiques and architecture made for a unique and interesting stay.
As for the basics like bed, décor, bathroom, etc, it was all good — no complaints, but nothing to wow me.

Worst hotel ever! Never stay there. Service is awful and hotel staff are rude and have no idea how to run a hotel. Rooms are dingy, smelly and the hotel is over all very creepy. I will never go back!

I love everything about this hotel! I travel frequently for work so it was refreshing to stay somewhere so unique and beautifully quaint. Gorgeous antiques every where you go. The communion booth in the lobby is such an interesting price. The art work is nostalgic and the lighting is perfect. This hotel is like taking a step back in time, I hope the renovations don’t make it lose it’s authenticity. My room had a four poster better with an actual firm mattress that won’t kill my back. I think they’ve done a nice job keeping the hotel modernized in the rooms but still keeping it refreshingly authentic.
I would recommend this hotel that is reasonably priced to anyone who wants a unique experience and enjoys beautiful antiques.

Nice from the outside, but a different story when walking through the front doors. Rooms aren’t the cleanest. No free breakfast or even coffee in the morning in the lobby. Much better choices in BMI

Nice old hotel. Rooms are a bit outdated, but they have new lcd tvs and an ipod dock. Customer service was excellent. Hotel has the fastest wifi of any hotel I’ve ever stayed at –25mbps. As fast as my hardwired cable modem at home. For the price this is definitely a. Excellent choice.

Meh, they’re okay. I was here for a conference for my internship. It’s a typical hotel, kinda like La Quinta or something.
I thought the pillows were a little uncomfortable, so I had a hard time sleeping. I am having a difficult time trying to describe it because it was really just. okay and average.
Part of the reason I’m giving it an okay rating is because there were lots of bugs in the restroom by the conference halls. On a good note, all of the staff was really nice. I just can’t say I was super impressed. From what my supervisors were saying, it seemed like a really good spot to have conferences though.

I’m excited to hear about their renovations. They were much needed. People wanted to love the Château, but it was hard to do when it was so dated.
I’ve eaten dinner in the restaurant there, which had great food but in need of renovations. The kitchen is currently under renovations at the time of this posting, so it will be interesting to see how they update it.

I was at the Château in Bloomington for a two day meeting. I was in charge of setting up the meeting, lunches and rooms. I found the staff easy to work with and able to fit our needs. The lunches were good and on time. The meeting room was set up as requested and the drinks and snacks were delivered as expected. The sleeping room was nothing special but there wasn’t anything wrong with it either. The Château of Bloomington is a bit tired and could use a good remodel and refreshing.

Stayed over for a deal of a price so we were very satisfied with what we got. Upon check-​in we asked for the number for a local cab company so we could go downtown and the desk clerk gave us one. However, the second group of our friends found a FREE shuttle outside when they went to leave a little later. The cab was about $ 12 so not a huge deal but I hope the desk clerk is at least aware that they have a free shuttle.
Rooms were extremely basic, bathrooms were decently sized and the shower had good pressure. Beds were reasonably comfy although I hate those weird thin fuzzy acrylic blankets. The vending machine was sold out of everything but Diet Coke and water on our floor-​was too tired by then to go scouting around on other floors. We were too late for breakfast and also couldn’t figure out if it was going to be free or not? We were given a single business card that had the hours for the breakfast on it but no other info like cost or if that card was good for one or two breakfasts. We ate at Garden of Paradise instead (YUM!). Breakfast was chafing dishes of eggs, french toast and saisage links so that’s good if it was free and bad if it cost anything.

This hotel is beautiful. There is so much to look at. It has a lot of character. Our room was beautiful too– I loved the blues and golds. When we arrived to check in we were a little overwhelmed by a ton of people in the lobby– several big groups were staying there too. However, we were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was in our fifth floor room– we slept way later than we expected because it was so quiet!
We weren’t impressed with the people handling reservations over the phone or the front desk staff. They were not very helpful, friendly or patient or particularly professional. We did, however, love the server who was working the breakfast Saturday morning– cheerful, chatty (but not too chatty) and service-​oriented. The breakfast buffet itself was disappointing– the food was cold and was less than we were expecting– sausage gravy and biscuits, scrambled eggs, make your own waffles, and a few bagels/​bread/​donuts. It seemed like such a fancy place we thought it might be different than the more budget hotels, but we were glad breakfast was included and the restaurant where it was served was gorgeous.
This was definitely a better experience than a stay at a budget hotel and if we are in the area again we will definitely be back.
