Terrible service. There were about 10 employees working on a Sunday yet we couldn’t get waited on for a take out order for about 5 minutes. Place was not busy and waitresses were just standing around. One kept looking at us but just kept going.

Great place to go eat but sometimes they get the order wrong. then think im rude when I tell them or always mess up my sweet tea for an unsweetened tea. I hate that

found pubic hair in food. my recommendation is to avoid at all costs. how dirty and filthy does a place have to be to have pubic hair in their food? makes you wonder what else happens there. disgusted.

The cookie butter milkshake… I have diabetes after drinking/eating that… but so good! That said, this particular location was not great. It wasn’t the best visit. When we walked in, they weren’t very busy, but it *looked* like they had just completed a rush. ALL of the unoccupied tables(all but 3) were filthy and hadn’t been cleaned. That stayed the case the entire time we were there. The only time a table was cleaned off, was when another party came in to be seated. I got the Prince of Royale burger(it’s got a fried egg on it… it is pretty great). This is on the $ 4 meal menu. So why… WHY…for the second time in as many days, was my food rung up for several dollars more than the price on the menu?! This time I raised a bit of a stink. Not to our waitress though, as she had disappeared. The manager was able to fix it. As we were leaving, a larger group of non-English-speaking customers came in and the waitresses argued over who would be serving them. None of them wanted to. None of them were particularly busy… only 2 other tables at the time. Maybe keep your displeasure to yourself…

Wow. certainly difficult to write a review. Did not listen to my order. Stuck with food I can not eat. Plain means NOTHING! Why are you so determined to serve with cheese. Wasted food. Think twice, they just want your cash and go.

Excellent food and fast & friendly service. Would definitely stop again! Our waitress got us out in time for the hockey game and with a friendly smile… the place was packed at 2PM on a Sunday afternoon.

Steak and shake is a 24 hour restaurant we stop here for breakfast and it was very good. We were hoping to come across another one during our travels. But know luck. So we didn’t get to try there other food. Would definitely eat there again.

This place is amazing! I had the guacamole burger without onions & added mushrooms! Uhh! It was one of the best burgers ever! And their milkshakes are to die for! I got the birthday cake one because we came on their 40th birthday a few weeks ago when I was visiting family in Illinois. I hope they come to La Porte, Texas or around here! It was so yummy!

There’s nothing like a Steak & Shake burger(a double cheese burger) any time of the day or night, though it seems I’m always eating them late night… They’re good… however, I have one problem with Steak & Shake, they don’t put enough of the trimmings I want on their burgers. They’d be so much better with a more decent sized slice of fresh tomato, a whole full sized slice of raw onion, and a lot more than the thin single leaf of lettuce they put on the burger(come on make it better for me)… Any way, whereas Steak & Shake is great for their burgers, fries, and chocolate shakes(and other items like chili) to satisfy the hunger needs, they also have RedBull to satisfy the ENERGY needs(for the RedBull I had considered 4 stars, but I’m sticking with 3,(even the RedBull doesn’t make up for the lack of the amount of trimmings they put on)… The drive-thru can be a little slow, but no problem. I’ll either wait for it or go inside. The workers here, both at the drive-thru window and inside, have always been friendly. So whatever… this place(and the other Steak & Shake locations) can expect me back again… Of note, I’ve been considering ordering something off their breakfast menu because the items look pretty enticing. Lastly, I thought it was cool to learn Steak & Shake was started in Bloomington/Normal, so I felt some feelings of nostalgia eating here in in the Bloomington/Normal area.

I think I have figured out Steak and Shake’s new pricing strategy of the $ 4 meals. They didn’t lower the price; they made the portions smaller. I got the 5-way chili and I know the portion is smaller than I have had in the past, albeit at a higher price. I’ve also noticed they have ditched the second side — no more little pot of beans which to me was a signature side for this chain. I also suspect that they are putting less fries on the plate. Regardless, this place was packed at 2:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday. And their burgers are among the best. Also, this is one of the cleaner Steak and Shakes, even during this busy period. I’ve been of the opinion that S&S have the dirtiest dining room floors in the business. But not here. The service was great. Even tho it was extremely busy, the server brought a fresh iced tea without asking, then later apologized because she didn’t get to it sooner. So I sweetened the tip.

Located next to bob evans we stopped here for breakfast because evans was closed. I am sure glad it was. Great food and service. Breakfast was good. Biscut was great gravy a touch meh. Biscut more than made up for it. Also had jerk burger too and enjoyed it. Prices are cheap! Easily a third of evans next door. Breakfast is avg of 3 to 6 dollars. Dont let the fast food exterior fool you. Everything is cooked fresh to order and looks yummy. More like a diner(with waitresses) than mcdonalds. Give a try you will be pleasantly surprised. Also really liked the oj. A nice mild taste.

One of the best chain diner type places ever. Four bucks(yes, $ 4) for many of the complete meals. The shakes are awesome! Burgers too. The seasoned fries are goooooooood. Clearly this is one of the places to be in Bloomington, because it was packed at 8pm on a Monday. I will happily look for other locations during my travels.

So this was within walking distance of the hotel I was staying in. I had checked in late and when I asked the lady at the front desk if there was any place where I could get a bit to eat she pointed me in the direction of Steak & Shake. I was kind of hoping for something else, but beggars can’t be choosers. So I walked over to put in an order for carry-out. The place was relatively empty so the guy behind the counter didn’t waste any time taking my order. I went with the Jalapeño Crunch Steakburger and based on the recommendation of the server, the Bacon Cheese Fries. Put them in a bag and took them over to the hotel. I actually left them in the bag for about fifteen to twenty minutes after I got back to my room. When I finally got around to eating, the food was still pleasantly warm(although the buns were a little damp) and the fries tasted great. Cost was a little high, but not that bad. Nice job for a late night dinner. Mahalo, and enjoy.

In my 32 years, I have walked out of exactly two restaurants. One was Steak n Shake in Terre Haute, IN. This is the other one. Now I am generally a patient person… but waiting for 20 minutes without a drink order taken, or even a «hey sorry, I’ll be right with you» is ridiculous. We went up the street to Culver’s instead. We are now at the«to hell with Steak n Shake» point.

How can you go wrong in the home town of Steak N Shake. Having been born and raised in Bloomington/Normal, I grew up on this stuff and it has never changed. Always the same great food at all locations. Steak burgers… great. Chili mac… great. Shakes and freezes… great. It is all great. The only complaint I have ever had is when they dropped the lemon and lime freezes off the menu and just kept the Orange. With all the different shakes they offer now, why not keep those as well. I was a big fan and wish they would bring them back. A+ food. Love this place.

Oh god, oh god, if there are withdraw symptoms for food addition I am suffering them. Steak N Shake is seriously the best! If you have never eaten a steakburger(not hamburger) you are missing heaven; the fries are unique, cut thin with lots of flavor; and the shakes! handmade with real ice cream, so thick and rich they will induce a sugar coma. One thing Steak N Shake has on their menu that was concocted by the gods is the chili mac; imagine a pile of spaghetti noodles covered with delicious chili, add some parmesan cheese and crushed crackers and you won’t know what hit you. Oh yea! I will see you again soon Steak N Shake, real soon…
