Erskine Reeves Salon & Barbers

This review is for the girls saloon & not men’s barber shop. My wife is very shy & wanted to get a hair cut /​style done. First time we went they were closing. There was a guy at the front desk and he was super kind and accommodating, but we had to come back the next day. no issues there.
The next day there were two girls in the saloon. My wife showed the girl attending us exactly how she wanted her hair done with a picture & she said she clearly understands. The same girl had a friend sitting on an empty chair who she kept talking to and she fu*ked my wife’s hair in the meanwhile.
When I looked at wife after they were done It was really bad. It was a completely different style & since she cut my wife’s hair shorter then she asked. THERE IS NO GOING BACK. On top of it her hair were not evenly cut. One side was more trimmed then the other. She tried to fix it twice. Until the other girl had to step in and fix it a little.
Worst saloon /​hair cut experience she has ever had. If you have to talk to your friend and giggle, please so that but not while you fu*k with people’s hair…
My wife was not happy and so was I, I wish the same guy was around so we could atleast complain.

I was looking for a full service barbershop for my two sons ages 10 & 13. They like a stylish cut and we live in the far Northwest suburbs where there are no barbershops specializing in African American hair.
The place was full of barbers; nine on a Saturday afternoon. The barbers were friendly and we didn’t wait too long. They took the time to understand the high top fade cuts my boys wanted and lined them up nicely. My oldest was even able to find a curl sponge. They also take appointments and credit cards. Give yourself an extra few minutes since they are on the 2^nd floor of Stratford Mall near Carson’s.

I needed to find a new salon. So I looked to several places. I’m very blessed that i was able to come into contact with Kim at Erskine Reeves’s.
Kim has a personality and presence about her that will connect with anyone she meets. She is very professional and will do anything to meet your needs. I’m sure all of the employees are well qualified; but Kim and I seemed to have built a quality, professional relationships hip that will last for quite some time.

I am pretty upset with the place because it was barely 730pm and all I needed was a simple lining done. They said that they were closed. The least thing they could of done was said «hey we can try and book you first thing tomo». Not happy right now!

I made an appointment on Saturday August 9. Jessica did my hair. She did a great job. My regular stylist was ill. I was so glad that I was able to get my hair done on a Saturday. I am a new customer and would recommend the salon.

This review is for the salon not the barber shop in stratford mall. My husband and son are loyal clients of Juan at the barber shop — EXCELLENT work and service by him. The barbers are professional and courteous.
The salon however is poorly managed. I scheduled an appointment for a wash and blowdry, trying to support this business. I went to the salon and they had no record of my appointment. I had to play the confirmation voice mail for the woman to say, «ahhh your appointment is with Kim, they should not have booked you with her she’s never on time or calls off.» They had no one there to help me, so I was late for a business meeting dealing with their unprofessionalism. I would not recommend this salon.

What is with men and their obsession with finding the best barber? I’ve never been here myself, but my husband used to be a loyal customer when we used to live in Chicago. He only came here for the barber services and after the first time he came here, he never went anywhere else. He also used to sometimes take my son here to get his hair cut. Erskine is probably the best barber/​stylist/​whatever you want to call it in the city. Since we moved, my husband still hasn’t found a barber that has skills like him. Paris used to sometimes be my husband’s barber as well (I don’t think he works here anymore though) but my husband said he’s really good too. I’ve seen a lot of Erskine’s work on Facebook/​Instagram and they’re amazing and it’s always made me want to do something different with my own hair!!! Would definitely recommend this salon!

Let me just say. I REALLY wanted to love this salon. The Unilocal reviews were good and it seemed like they could do hair well. I am new to the state/​area and visited this salon twice. My husband even tried out the barbers and said it was ok.
First time, I waited for 5 hours, 4−9pm, for a wash, blow dry, and flat iron. My stylist was overbooked and clients were late so that meant we all had to wait. Even though she was very nice and apologetic, I ended up missing my friend’s birthday dinner because I sat there for so long and my hair was a mess (my fault but I didn’t know where else to go). Even though, the wait was long I liked my hair so I decided to return, the time I wanted to book with the previous stylist had another appointment, so I tried someone else to see if my experience would be a different. Sadly, it wasn’t.
I was fresh out of a sew in and I took it down and wanted a wash blow dry and flat iron (simple). I was 5 minutes early for my 4:00pm appointment and a guy near the front checked me in. I sat upfront for another 20 minutes before I was approached by anyone asking if I needed anything. The stylist I was waiting on was not with another client working, instead she was socializing (laughing and howling) back at the shampoo bowls. Also other girl’s in the salon were complaining, in front of clients, that the owner is always late paying them on Friday and they are sick of it… uhhhh yea not my business.
Eventually, when she was done talking about God knows what she decides to greet me and asked what I needed done today. She then disappeared for another 15 minutes, finally nearly 40 minutes after my appointment Erskine’s assistant was nice enough to wash my hair because I think she could see the agitation on my face. I requested a deep condition as well. I was placed under the dryer for 5 minutes maybe less (normally should be at least 15 – 20 minutes) before the stylist proclaims she was trying to get out of there and would do my hair now so she could go home. So there goes my conditioning treatment.
Anyways 3 hours later I left disappointed and overcharged. I paid $ 15 for the deep condition that never happened, $ 20 for ends clipped, and $ 50 for my style. This was just crazy but because I was exhausted and knew I would NEVER return here I just paid. I wanted to argue being charged for the deep conditioning but what’s the point? I only would have been more upset.
Look, the aesthetics of this place are decent and because their hours are VERY convenient I can see them being popular but the old habits die hard here and like the typical stereotypes of black salons there was an inordinate amount of unprofessionalism and disregard for client’s time that I would never support this place again. I don’t ask for much but when you are in the client service business you aren’t doing paying customers a favor, the stylist need to be reminded of this.

As many other reviews have stated, Erskine Reeves Salon is horrible when it comes to customer service as well as wait times on Saturday. Yesterday 8÷23÷14, I was at the salon from 10a until 10:30p for a perimeter touch up for my 12 yr old daughter’s box braids. You read that right… I SAT AT THIS SALON FOR 12.5 HOURS FOR A DARN EDGE TOUCH UP!!! They did not re-​do her full head. And these were not micro braids. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had with getting my daughter’s hair braided. It was absolutely terrible.
My appt was scheduled to start at 10; I arrived at 10a. When I arrived the stylist (Shareka) already had someone in her chair which was odd because she told me we would be the first clients. Upon arriving Shareka asked me to take down the perimeter; I did so. I completed take down of my daughter’s perimeter at 10:45…my daughter and I then proceeded to wait their until 2p until Shareka finished the 8a client she had been working on. This client was getting a braid less sew in which is why it took so long. But why did Shareka advise me when I first got there at 10a that I should probably come back later??? Why did she proceed to ask me to take down my daughter’s hair??? I later come to find out this 8a was a walk in!!! So they disregarded my appt time for a walk in.
It then took Shareka another 8+ hours to finish my daughter’s perimeter touch up. She would do a few braids… and then go do another client… do a few more braids… and then go do another client. We were the first clients in the salon, and the last ones out. We watched every single other person at the salon get their hair done while we kept getting pushed to the side.
I’m mad at myself because I should have left. I just didn’t have anyone else to go to on such short notice. and my daughter starts school next week. SMH. This was a horrible experience. And the icing on the cake was that Erskine himself walked in at a certain point. I tried to explain the fiasco to him and his only response was «We’ll do better next time». Ha. What a joke. There definitely won’t be a next time. Worst. Salon. Ever. STAY AWAY!

My barber Steve Wren from Erskine Reeves Barbershop is top notch! He always provides a great vibe coming in for an appointment and does amazing work. The man is an artist and had finesse. The overall feel of the barbershop is great as well. Good wholesome music for all to enjoy, fun conversations, and the barbers know how to treat their clients VERY well. I would recommend this barbershop to ALL people. Very diverse and intricate.

Came here to get a trim. Walked out with a buzz.

I am 23 and for the last 5 years I have been searching for a barber that was just perfect, from business structure to employees to obviously the cut most importantly. I came on yet another gamble to Erskine Reeves and upon entering was immediately surprised. The environment was much better than I expected. My appointment was with Steve who was nothing short of superb! I walked out with the first haircut I’ve ever been happy with. I got compliments all night that night. Steve knew exactly what I wanted and took the time to make sure it was done right. This is now my new home. Thank you

Erskine is a talented stylist with many years of experience. He always gives me tips on how to maintain my strong, healthy hair.
I recently got my hair colored and he picked out colors that look great with my complexion. Every time I go I tell him to do whatever he wants, and it always turns out fabulous! Erskine Reeves Salon & Barbers is a multicultural salon located in the Straford Square Mall. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The hair stylists are extremely knowledgeable and their focus is healthy hair & hair care maintenance. Erskine is amazing with color & I am always pleased when I get out of his chair. I get so many compliments on my hairstyles.

This is a great African American salon and barbershop in the West suburbs. Making an appt is as easy as calling or going online. They do a variety of styles from natural hair to relaxers to color as well as men’s haircuts by the barbers. Everybody is very friendly and even though it is an African American shop they cater to all hair types.
Prices are reasonable and they always have weekday and new client specials. Definitely worth it.

The staff is very friendly & well educated in their craft. They do various lengths & textured hair. Convenient location too.
