This is the best bakery ever! Located in the middle of nowhere in Southeast Iowa, if you are ever in the area, and by in the area I mean take detour an hour or two out of your way and stop by here. Everything is made from scratch by the local Amish community. I would bet money that each recipe contains unicorn tears and a pinch of fairy dust. There is no other way to account for how good everything is. From the cookies and pies to the fresh breads and cinnamon rolls, I have never bought anything that even came close to average. My grandma did label their chocolate chip cookies as just alright, but I think that was a little bitterness because I loved them so much and she wanted to remind me that they didn’t compare to hers. Every time I stop their inventory has expanded. Brownies were the big draw at first. My PooPoo calls them magic brownies.(No they aren’t those kind of brownies, but magical they are!) Now I don’t leave without dropping at least a twenty. That might not seem like much, but when you can get a plate full of cookies for $ 4, it adds up to a diabetic coma. The bakery is attached to a furniture and goods store. All of the furniture is handmade and absolutely beautiful. You will find rockers, picnic tables, full bedroom sets, dining room tables, etc. The quality is absolutely amazing. The prices may seem a bit high, but for the quality and handmade workmanship, it is a great deal. They also have handmade quilts and other items. You will want to budget a fair amount of time just to take in everything the store offers. Everything is closed on Sunday, and the bakery is only open on Friday and Saturday. The limited bakery days makes me stop on non-opened days peering through the windows weeping, hoping they will be refilling the unicorn tears and fairy dust and just make me a special batch of cookies. Generally though, I try and plan my trips around days they are open. It is that good!
