AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care

I had some work done to my 2002 GMC Sonoma. I have nothing but good things to say. They did what they told me they would, they called, followed up. I was told it could be the transmission or a component in the transmission, they checked, recommended the component which is a much cheaper fix and it seems to be running great. They didn’t just tell me I needed a new transmission and try to fleece me. I feel that Mike and Ameer are both honest mechanics that will take care of their customers, and that is often hard to find in a mechanic. That is my experience. Great job!

First off, I want to say that I try my best to give all people the benefit of the doubt. But I feel totally disrespected, disgusted and mistaken as a fool by this AAMCO location and the owner, Mike Z.
I was shopping around for a transmission and thought that I should use them because that’s what they specialize in. I was initially impressed by the good customer service as I had to have my car towed from another garage. I clearly explained to them that I needed whatever that was needed to be completed within 4 – 5 days. They assured me that this could be done. I became uneasy when 3days passed and I didn’t receive a call. I began to call Mike to ask the status only to find that the car wasn’t even evaluated yet. I again told him that I needed the car ASAP, and that the only reason I sent it to his location was because of his assurance that I would have the car by the end of the week… I then get a call (approx. 4:45pm Wednesday ²⁄₁₇) from Mike to tell me that the trans that he initially ordered would NOT get there in time, that they would try to have it completed by Monday. I then asked for the Total price for the repair, he quoted me $ 2400. He didn’t mention any other price. This was ok for me because in shipping around that was the average cost of repair from other mechanics. I decided to stay with them because of heir pedigree, AAMCO is a nationally known chain so I then thought that was a better choice than some local mechanic.
I get to the AAMCO to pick up car, only to be surprised with a bill of over $ 3600. I felt ambushed with no other options at that point. I asked him to explain the difference his attitude was insulting to my intelligence and as a customer. Needless to say that this price was $ 1300 more than the other I was shopping. I had to pay the bill to get the car out. But felt like an idiot doing it. But guess what? That’s not the end of the story. As I drove for about 20 min the trans starting slipping. (I had to smile/​laugh about it). Called them and was told that the warranty is only valid for that location. I really don’t want anything else to do with this AAMCO location. Mike Z. lied to my face and told me that I was aware of the total charge when he called ²⁄₁₇. You should stay AWAY FROM THIS AAMCO !
BUT I WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH, ALREADY CALLED CC Company to refute charges. !
I will send them a check for the $ 2400 that I was quoted initially, not paying a dime more.

Best auto service place I have ever been to!!! The overall service was excellent! The owner Mike Zirolo is a stand up guy. He definitely took care of me (the car really). The service and repair that was done was quality!

Mike at AAMCO was so great! I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my car. He is so honest and told me exactly what needed to be fixed and gave me a really good price.

I went there to just replace a car antenna so I will not experience any static on my radio station FM. They gave me an estimate of $ 150.00 which I agreed to. When I went to make a deposit of $ 100.00 they kept offering a complimentary check up. I refuse at first, but they kept insisting, so I said YES. When I went to drop off my car off, they said it was take an hour. I did not get a call back for like 4 hours (I knew at that moment, something was wrong). When they called back, they claimed my front brakes, brake hose and oil pan needed fixing. Of course, they will find a bunch of things wrong, just so they can try to sell me more of their services; that I was expecting. So, I acted like I was going to fix it and got estimate. Mike said 3 different options of prices ranging from $ 260 up to $ 550. I was most definitely not interested (it was during Christmas time), so I was tight on cash.
When i went to pick up my car, I said I would probably do the other fixes at other time. Mike (the owner) stated that I can take my car but WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BREAK/​STOP MY CAR… They «apparently broke my brake hose» while in the process of the complimentary/​free check up. He kept trying to show me what his team broke but I really could not recognize what part he was talking about. As far as I know, his team could have slit that piece on purpose. He then try to keep selling me a «deal» of 550.00.
I end up just paying for the brake hose. So a car antenna which was suppose to be 150.00 end up costing 360.00.
Also, my radio station still has static. SMH.
NEVER GO THERE AND DON’T TRUST THEM.

First off, I *really* wanted to like this place because they are within walking distance from where I live and it is really convenient. And the guys I talked to seem nice. That’s about all I can say for positive.
So I had an engine light come on, but the codes are general, so they said they’d do a $ 90 diagnostic but it would be «free» if I got the service. They called me and gave me a quote on the phone and I asked for the quote to be emailed to me since they took my email. They have some crazy system they can’t do that but they typed up an email. It doesn’t seem THAT weird to get one of these new fangled emails of the internet so I have something in writing.
Once I had what was wrong, I checked multiple websites that take year/​make/​model/​problem and calculate estimate. Now, these are only sites vs. real mechanic, but they also have no intent to gouge me. Basically they were doubling the labor, so the «free» diagnostic was actually just an extra hour of labor. I point this out and was told I was probably not putting in info right and my car has a more complicated engine then most, blah blah blah.
I called another repair place, but they said they’d have to charge their own diagnoses, they wouldn’t trust another places. So it was either Aamco high price or Aamco repair+another diagnosis+cheaper fix. I THOUGHT I was at least going for convenience to just have Aamco finish the job. They told me it would be finished tomorrow but they didn’t mean first thing, either because A) They got the wrong part delivered and a piece was missing or B) there was another thing to be fixed they missed on diagnosing and they generously fixed it without charging me. Do I get any discount it took an extra day? Of course not, that’s just me being shit out of luck.
And they had a whole list of things I could also get fixed. And since they took longer and charged more than I’m pretty sure they had to, now they want to really milk me for more money. Now, these were a bunch of issues that weren’t mentioned when I got an oil change a week ago. Are these better mechanics or just greedier ones? Then again, why would I want to spend half the value of the car fixing things that are causing me zero problems?
Again, they seemed very nice but I did not at all feel good about the work I had done and don’t think I would come back here again.

These days, people tend to have a «guy» for everything; from who bags your groceries… to who fixes your car. After today, the workers of AAMCO are my go-​to car «guys».
About a month ago, my transmission failed me on my way home. A local mechanic recommended AAMCO and I was not disappointed. Mike the Mechanic made sure we were cared for properly. He was honest and gave us regular updates. The entire staff was very accommodating and I was able to set up a reasonable payment plan. Now, my car runs like a champ! For the work I got done, it was reasonably priced and I now have the comfort of a decent warranty.
I would recommend AAMCO any day!

let me start off by saying that seeing a mechanic is akin to going to the dentist when you have bad teeth… first off, i was able to get an appt w/​in 24hrs and had my car back in a little over 24hrs. staff was pleasant and professional (Amir and Mike) and answered my questions and concerns w/​o being dismissive. dropped off the car 8am ⁶⁄₂ and had it back 10am ⁶⁄₃ in working order. Mike was very honest on what had to be done and what could wait, and he could’ve gouged me and i would be none the wiser as i only know how to fill gas tank and take car to get oil changed. i appreciated the frequent calls to keep me abreast of status and issues and just felt i was treated well-​will definitely return to them (but hope i don’t have to). the place was recommended by Ronnie at Jiffy Lube in Belleville b/​c he noted what he thought was a transmission fluid leak and that usually means big bucks. luckily, the solution was not too pricey and they have one satisfied customer!

This was my very first time at one of your locations. Mike (staff) were very friendly and knowledgeable and I never once felt pressured. I will definitely return for future upcoming maintenance. Thank you again!

I just went to AAMCO because i needed Freon put in my old 1999 Civic.
I am a woman and I am always skeptical and feel I will be snowed when it comes to anything involving car repairs.
I was greeted by the manager, Ameer and explained everything to me in the office and his fee was lower than all the other estimates I was given.
My car is now colder than his office he said. He was right!
I was also given an estimate for front brakes and rotors. And he inspected the back and instead of rooking me into back brakes told me they only needed to be cleaned and adjusted which he would do for free if I had the fronts done.
His estimate was almost ½ the cost of STS Tire, Quality Tire, Sears and Brakarama.
I am very happy. A good mechanic shop being a woman is hard to find.

I need to start by saying I am NOT a car guy. Someone asks what kind of car I drive, and I say «blue.» Which is why I’m usually petrified of trying to find someplace I can trust for service. Luckily, everything is magnificent at the Bloomfield AAMCO. I came across their number online, and took a chance, and I was not disappointed. I was greeted on the phone by the owner, and he was happy to listen to my problem and schedule me for an appointment within the same hour! When I arrived, the whole team was welcoming and courteous, and I felt perfectly safe dropping off my key and knowing the car was in good hands. I got phone updates about where the parts were, estimates every step of the way, and shockingly, the costs were better than I could have dreamed! And it certainly didn’t hurt that they’re in walking distance to all of downtown Bloomfield, in case you have some time to kill without your set of wheels. I am absolutely going back for all my automotive needs, and you definitely should too, whether you’re a Bloomfield resident, or someone willing to drive an exit or two further for an experience for which you’ll be happy.

Stay Away! A couple of years ago, I took my (well maintained) truck here when the check engine light came on with a transmission code. The owner was shady (his business card had only his first name on it for instance). They charged me a (steep) fee for diagnosis, refundable when the repair was done. According to them, it needed a rebuild, and the cost was several thousand dollars (even more with an extended warranty) — more than what a salvaged transmission, but still less than what the vehicle value. I had to travel on business, they had my vehicle, and I didn’t trust what they would do if they said no. So I let them repair it. The light still came on when I got it back and they had to fix what was probably the real problem. Fast forward to today. I gave the truck to my sister in Florida, and the light came back on again. The (recommended) Florida shop that looked at it said that a couple of bolts were laying in the pan and whoever rebuilt it didn’t use many new parts.

Stay away from this place! After paying them to completely overhaul my transmission, to the tune of almost 5 G’s…my transmission still wouldn’t shift correctly. I took it back to them, but they claimed that the problem I was having (where the car was not SHIFTING correclty) was not due to the new transmission but instead due to the engine. My regular mechanic told me the problem was 100% due to the transmission. I ended up trashing the whole car… but am still paying off this nightmare.
My recommendation is stay away from these chain-​type places and take it to a good local guy.
