Plum Market

The checkout lines here are absurd! There isn’t one line for four registers. There are four lines so choose wisely or multiple people will cut in front of you.

Great grocery store. Prices can sometimes be high, but often worth it. Excellent selection of pre-​made food. Very clean. Produce is terrific. Bread is always fresh. Desserts are very good. We’ll shop here in the future.

Meat and prepared foods sections are good. They should be ashamed of their produce department. It is FALL In MICHIGAN and most apples for sale at Plum are from NEW ZEALAND and CHILE !!! Only one variety of apple from Michigan in there. That is disgraceful. All around Michigan the tomato plants are hanging heavy but Plum Market did not have a single slicing tomato. There were a few under ripe vine tomatoes from I think Canada. There should be big beautiful Michigan tomatoes for sale in there! Very disappointing. I am off to Meijer to find true «local» produce.

Plum Market is the most gourmet market in the Metro Detroit area. If you’re not afraid of spending a little extra money then check out Plum Market. They have a tremendous variety of fresh produce, excellent prepared foods, great apothecary section, and everything else in between. I’ve been shopping at Plum for 5 years now and have not been disappointed yet.

OMG THEY HAVE DUKE’S MAYONNAISE!!! Seriously, I’m from the South and I’ve literally been having someone mail me jars of Duke’s Mayo from Georgia. But now that I have found it in Michigan (particularly the Bloomfield location on Maple and Lahser), I might just be able to stay here and be happy! DUKESSSSSSS!!!

As Chelsea A tactfully put it, this location is «cozier» than the West Bloomfield store. A few of the more out-​of-​the-​way aisles have room only for one cart, and most of the others have room only for one cart attended by two bored toddlers and one exasperated mom. Politeness and patience, welcome virtues in any store, are indispensable here.
But it still gets 5 stars, of course, because it isn’t just any store, it’s Plum Market, where you can find the freshest local produce and the carefully and expertly selected best of everything else, including that amazing German mustard you had once in a restaurant in Queens and couldn’t find even in Manhattan specialty stores, as reported by one reviewer. I have this terrible sinking feeling that they’re going to be bought by some big soulless chain some day, and I have a large crying-​towel ready for that occasion. But until then, you know where to find me.

I have actually never been to this grocery store before in my trips home or while living here. I think its fairly new? But outstanding! If there is anything I’ve ever wanted to find I truly believe I can find it at Plum Market. Fresh produce selection with more exotic options. Gourmet cheeses from any type and region you can imagine. What really sold me though was that first, they had Zingerman’s Bread at the deli counter. Loaves and loaves of the famous deli’s outstanding bread! Accompanied of course with other baked snacks such as their pound cake and perhaps rugelach if it hasn’t sold out already. Another thing that drove me wild was that in just passing through an aisle trying to find white vinegar to dye easter eggs with I came across this German mustard that is nearly impossible to find that I’ve only ever had once at a restaurant in Queens. I’ve never even found it in any gourmet supermarket in New York. Wine selection is also pretty great and affordable. I have zero complaints with this store. Zero. I think I’m in love. Especially when I noticed that if you check in on Unilocal you get a $ 3 off baked goods coupon. Love.

I love Plum Market. I moved from So Cal where I was spoiled with health food stores. I try to watch out for their sales but if I’m in a bind I know I can find just about anything I need that’s vegetarian/​vegan and healthy there. Honestly they would get 5 stars if I they had more sales or their prices were cheaper.

I feel better about myself when I shop here. Plum has better stuff. And best of all, they carry fresh Chazzano coffee. I also stop on weekends and buy flowers. Great price on those.

Da bomb. Bit pricey, especially the produce, but the selection of specialty items/​brands is excellent. Impressive ice cream selection that won me over: a veritable showcase of Jeni’s Splendid, McConnell’s, among others. They also have See’s chocolates (select varieties were on sale for $ 12.50/lb), McClure’s pickles and pickle potato chips (highly recommend their spicy pickle chips over their garlic-​dill, if you like pickles, spicy things, and sour cream or salt & vinegar chips), ginger-​lemon Haribo gummies (yum!), Intelligentsia, watermelon rind, Ortiz anchovies.

Best prepared foods ever! High quality sandwiches and soups… and always consistent!

4 stars for the quality of produce and food. 1 star for the prices. Every item in the store is guaranteed to be more expensive than other grocery stores. The produce is high quality, but if you get into the breads, cakes, etc. they tend to be stale and just don’t turn fast enough to be fresh.
They also don’t carry a large stock variety, so many times you’ll end up at another store.

I’ve seen this place around, and decided to pop in today to check this place out. I enjoyed my time here, and have plenty of nice things to say, but also am hesitant about coming here again for a number of reasons as well.
It seems that organic «whole food» style groceries seem to be popping up at a fast rate these days, and Plum Market is one of those. While I appreciate the organic, healthy way of things, I’m not a hard core shopper for any of these places. I could never see myself shopping full time at any of these places for any reason.
Coming to Plum Market was fun. The place is clean, well stocked, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Much easier to get assistance then at any of the big box stores, that’s for sure. Their produce was impressive, amazing wine selection with even better prices, and tons of grocery items. The meat and seafood counter was impressive as well, with everything you could think of. Top notch!
But, the prices here are steep! EXPENSIVE. Yes, they have everything, and it was a pleasure to shop in a grocery store with such personal attention, but $ 13.99 for a pound of Michigan coffee? I love coffee and will splurge on something like that from time to time, but not as my daily cup.
I don’t know that I need specialty organic, free range, gluten free goat cheese hand made in Michigan by local farmers who drive Priuses. I mean, if you do that’s fine, but I don’t. Sometimes I just want regular cheese to throw in an omelette, ya know?
Also, on Unilocal if you check into Plum Market it says you get a free reusable wine tote. So, I walked around and asked an employee about it who wasn’t helping anyone else. They directed me to the register and said that they should have them at the checkout. Okay, good. So I finish my shopping and show the register girl my phone about the free wine tote. She just looked at me and said I had to go to the wine section to get it. So I did, but couldn’t find it. So, I went back to the register, paid for my groceries and left. Maybe next time…
In closing, I really did like my time here, and will probably return for various random items. Such items would be coffee, a slice of their pizza, or maybe a sandwich.

This store is pretty great. They have some of the freshest produce in the area and have many, many excellent gluten free products including gluten free products in their deli and in the bakery section. The store is organised in a way that makes it very easy to find whatever you are looking for plus the grocery store clerks are very helpful and ask if you need help when they see you looking for something and never just pass you by. The price is a little expensive but totally worth it because of the service and quality of food they have in the store.
I recommend going there and grabbing lunch in the deli and sitting in the eating section. Its definitely fun to people watch and see who else is shopping there while eating some yummy food!

Nice place on the outside. The store looks great. But — I’ve been there on three separate occasions to find specific items only to be looked at funny and not able to find what I was looking for. Once I was looking for Mizithra cheese — nope. Was looking for a finishing element for a sauce — nope, ended up finding it at the much smaller store on the corner.
«Did you find everything okay?» Nope. I even told them that at the register and they didn’t really seem like they cared to help find what I needed.

I love buying beautiful delicious fresh ingredients (=$$$$) .but realistically I almost never cook so shopping here on a regular basis is kind of stupid.
I feel like you have to know how to shop at Plum if you have any kind of a grocery shopping budget. I always look at their e-​mail flyer and will stock up on my favorite things when they’re on sale. They often have $ 10 for 10 Fage yogurts, which I eat everysingleday, so that brings me in at least once a month. Otherwise my only splurges come in the produce (they have super cool exotic items all the time) and the cheese counter (a half year in France gave me high cheese expectations).
A few notes:
— Really pretty store… if you like wandering grocery aisles, this is a good place to do it
— Great prepared sandwiches/​salad bar/​soup bar
— Extremely nice and helpful staff
— THEY CARRY PINK ELEPHANT CUPCAKES!!! (which are the best of all time)
— Sign-​up for their newsletter/​rewards program to try and save a teensy bit of money
— Their store in WB has an awesome swirlberry shop so if that’s closer to you… I’d go there!

I’ve been looking for a few specific ingredients on the healthier side and this store has them! Whole Foods and Trader Joes is where I traditionally shop.
It’s an awesome environment. super friendly and knowledgable staff. They are clean and organized. It’s def a smaller grocery store (not tiny, but smaller) but well stocked. There wasn’t anything I thought of needing that they didn’t have.
I’ll be coming back here. It’s great to support a Michigan «small» business rather than a giant like Whole Foods.

This is a great market. Nice prepared food section. Great wine selection. Staff was helpful and attentive.
And a rewards program. Like most stores of this quality and caliber it’s not cheap.

I have a love /​hate relationship with Plum Market.
The food is gorgeous.
The prices are insane.
My gf and I were on our way home from dog obedience class and needed some carry out, the wait at Buddy’s next door was longer than we wanted so I ran into plum to pick up something quick for dinner.
I had a $ 20 in my pocket so wasn’t too worried. Ran over to the hot prepared line to pick a couple things out, grabbed a piece of chicken, a little thing of roasted potatoes, a couple eggs rolls and 2 soda pops, went to the cashier and I didn’t have enough money and had to put back the sodas.

I’m sorry, I can tell the food is quality but hey I’m not spending fancy restaurant prices on luke warm leftovers.
They were busy too, go figure, guess it must be nice to be so rich.

This Plum Market is a bit cozier than the Maple/​Orchard lk location, and just as great. The staff is awesome, so is the deli and bakery. Go see Evan in the wine department, he is my friend and I recommend his suggestions. Plum is the finest grocery store, IMHO.
