Three stars because it’s clean, well-stocked, and it exists… especially during the desperation of the off-season. But isn’t there something highly immoral about jacking up the price because you can?

I think(and I might be mistaken) that this might be the only«real» grocery store on the island, so of course the prices are going to be on the steep side BUT prices aside, Block Island Grocery store has everything you might possibly need if you were renting a house for a week and did not want to schlep over food, wanted to grab some snacks for your hotel room, OR(in my case) were on the island for the day and wanted to pick up some grub to have a picnic lunch later in the day. We headed to the back of the store to the deli where for $ 8.xx I was able to get a 8″ grinder with my choice of Boar’s Head meat and a variety of toppings. The woman behind the counter was sweet as could be and although she would not win any awards for speed — I can away with a perfect maple turkey sub that I enjoyed later in the day. If you cannot decide what you would like — there is also a listing of several«house options» to take the guesswork out of ordering. When I finally had lunch, my sandwich(which I asked to be pressed to make it a bit more user friendly) was wonderfully delicious. It might have been all the exercise I did but I think it was the combination of the bread(no Wonder Bread here), meat, and care that put it together. Before leaving I checked out the rest of the store and was impressed with basically everything in it. From their produce(fruits and vegetables galore) to their frozen food to their meat department, Block Island Grocery can satisfy even the most restrictive dietary needs. Yes — you will have to pay more(I mean they have to get it over somehow), but hey — the alternative is bringing it over by ferry yourself and sometimes that is just not a good option

You’re on an island. The next closest grocery store is 13 miles away by ferry. $ 9 for a 12 pack of coke? No problem. $ 8 for a half gallon of ice cream? Sure. $ 17 for four pre-made hamburger patties? What’s the other choice? They know you have no other choice and they are going to get you for all you’re worth. Left kidney for a loaf of bread? Why not?! Thirteen miles from the mainland and makes Hawaii prices look cheap. Even Block island has its ugly side.

Great market. In walking distance to everything downtown. A little pricey but expected as your on Block Island. Good selection of butcher shop items.

You’d think with a 100% markup, they’d accept a return after 24 hours on a health and beauty item… Not so much. And I would have been fine with it if the manager wasn’t so rude. Do yourself a favor, bring whatever you can from home and order the rest via Stop & Shop/Peapod(yes, they deliver to the Island) and get standard mainland prices!

has everything you would want as its the only grocery store in town We visited off season, was the only place we could find opened in the am for coffee. Which was decent coffee(have to travel all the way back of the store to find the little coffee counter). They also have fresh muffins etc.

Thank goodness for this place. It opens early. They always have hot coffee brewing. Get here early and you can make your way past the extensive deli back towards the bakery department, where you might find such wonders as a butter crunch or blueberry muffin right out of the oven. The whole joint smells of fresh baked pastry first thing in the morning. And muffins, when that fresh are so soft and hot and they’re actually a bit difficult to eat. But I do anyway! Because hot fresh muffins are the treasure and the reward one earns for walking up early to tackle the day-come what may. The coffee is always hot, good and Cheap; which is a reward onto itself. Pick up your meat, groceries, fruit, bottled water, ice, etc here as well. It really is a fully functioning grocery store. You need it– I’m sure they got it.

This was just your basic tiny grab and go grocery store. It’s right across the street from where the ferry drops you off so it’s an easy stop to pick up some waters and snacks, should you need to. They also have sunscreen and pain relievers right up front and center if you start to get a little crispy while on your island adventure. A cute little place and a very convenient location.

delicious homemade sandwiches made at the deli. great beer/liquor selection. quite pricey for groceries but you are on an island so expect to pay more for everything and be prepared for sticker shock. it’s a local market that needs to make income in the summer to survive til the following season.. .. but they have just about everything you need. sale on food stuff in off season very reasonable. *** the soups are phenomenol.. homemade and the best chowder i’ve every had. so yummy!!! order a store made rotissere chicken ahead of time and it by far exceeds the usual run of the mill store made chicken.

Nice delightful grocery store on Block Island that meets your food and alcohol needs and wants during vacation. It doesn’t look big on the outside, but it’s quite spacious inside. Overall, the prices are expensive compared to prices on the mainland, but that’s expected. For some things, prices weren’t jacked up, e.g. Pillsbury cinnamon rolls but for others like champagne, they were. All in all, it’s a great reference to know about esp when resources on an island can be scarce. Hours are from 8am to 8pm, so do your shopping early!

A great little grocery store with everything you could need while on The Block. They have a great selection for a small store, with good quality meat and seafood. One word of warning however if you are staying for more than a couple of days or have a large group, try to bring groceries with you. Stocking up on island can get VERY expensive. Not that it’s particular to this store, it’s just they way islands are.

A store for the Block Just a grocery store conveniently located on Ocean Ave. The usual grocery items are found here but what makes this makes special is that there just aren’t many places to buy groceries on Block Island. The prices of course aren’t great but before you go off on a bike ride you can load up on junk food and drinks. They even have a pretty good selection of produce if you want something healthy. The really neat thing about this place are the sandwiches. They will make you a turkey, roast beef, tuna seafood of even veggie sandwich. Even put it on your choice of bread. So you can stop here for a quick bite to eat while roaming around or biking the island. They also keep a pretty decent inventory of booze on hand which is worth at least a star.
