This is a very small unassuming spot in the Publix shopping center at Valleydale and 31. Realistically most people would likely never try the place on their own without being dragged by someone in the know. This place serves some of the absolute best burgers in town. The burger is prepared to order while you’re in line from fresh NOT Frozen beef. I’m told breakfast and other menu items are equally good; however, I can’t resist the burger. The line can get a bit long and it may take considerably longer than a drive thru but you’re getting a far superior product for roughly the same price. Additionally, the staff is friendly and nice, unlike most fast food places. I very highly recommend Tony’s!

Go here for a real hamburger and skip the chain restaurants! You get a chunk of meat on this burger not a skinny flimsy patty like the chains serve. Man it is huge! It is prepared from fresh ground beef, not frozen pefab stuff! I love the crinkle cut fries! We like our fries extremely crisp and brown so they fry a batch for us to suit our taste. They prepare your food on the spot after you order. They are friendly folks but are very busy preparing your food so don’t expect a lot of chit chat. The resturant needs an update but I am cool with it. It’s just a burger joint. They have a variety of food but the burger is the superstar to me. I haven’t tried a lot on the menu because I love the burger so much. I haven’t tried their breakfast either but I have heard that it is good. The prices are very reasonable. Support your locally owned restaurants!

How we got here is pretty funny With limited breakfast service from our hotel to our offices in Helena, Al. We stopped at Subway for a quick pick up and go. We clearly caught them off guard as they were just opening and not ready but young server was sweet and tried to help… During our banter as she was putting gloves on, we asked why so many cars out front despite only us being in the place. She replied with«oh, that’s for Tony’s, they are incredible!» We looked at each other and said, «sounds like we need to go there!» She was right and we were not disappointed!!! «Tony»(not his real name) his wife and another counter person have become daily fixtures on our monthly biz trips to B’ham. He will make us anything we ask for. I go with the standard egg, ham, cheese on toasted whole wheat. My partner is more adventurous and has tried almost everything, each one better than the last. Not much to look at, but you don’t need to! It is great!!!

Great food. Breakfast is awesome puts all other places to shame. Usually get the bacon egg cheese sandwich. Lunch all is great. Giant cheeseburger is awesome, filling. Price is great. Highly recommended.

Nope! I ordered a Chicago dog; I don’t know what I received, but it was not a Chicago-style hot dog. They gave me: a plain bun, instead of poppy seeded; relish, instead of neon green relish; one big pepperoncini, instead of sport peppers; and diced tomatoes, instead of sliced tomatoes(OK… tolerable). Also, although I cannot be sure, it might have been brown mustard, instead of yellow mustard. The fries, while crisp and plentiful, were(or seems to be) frozen, commercial crinkle cut fries. Bland. My co-worker ordered a Chili cheese dog. Sliced, government issue cheese?! Really?! That works at a cook out, fund raiser, or kids’ hot dog stand on the side of the street, not an established restaurant. Try shredded cheese or melted cheese. Nothing spectacular. Nothing great. For a ‘mom-and-pop’ place, it was not very friendly or welcoming. Pros: I like that this is a small, family owned business. Relatively quick service, despite the line. Cons: [See review] Not good! Not friendly or welcoming.

Great hot dogs and burgers. The philly is not too shabby as well. My favorite is the chili cheese dog!

I’ve been going here since I was a little kid. One of the best burgers you can get in the Birmingham area.

There are not many places that I would not give a second chance, but this is one of them. We sampled chili cheese dogs, the hamburger and fries. The meat used seems to have been frozen and the fries seem to be frozen, commercial crinkle cut fries. Cheese used on the hot dogs and hamburger looks and tastes like American cheese slices. I would prefer shredded cheddar cheese. This restaurant does not even rate mediocre. It is bad.

I’ve never been hungry after breakfast or lunch at Tony’s. I usually get a cheeseburger and fries for lunch. The burger patties are notoriously huge – you will want a nap after. And the fries only come in one size, but that size can best be described as «enough to fill up a small brown paper bag.» You get the mom-and-pop vibe as soon as you walk in. If you work near the intersection of 31 and Valleydale, this is where you need to go for your greasy spoon fix.

Best dog in town. I know that’s saying a lot, but try The Junkyard Dog and the let me know. Better ingredients, better hot dog. Run by a great local family too.
