The Dailey Method

I love this place, I simply LOVE it.
I started the Dailey Method a little over a year ago while living in California. After getting married, I moved to Michigan and I was really lucky to find a Dailey Method nearby.
The Dailey Method in Birmingham is a welcoming, fun, energetic place to be. And I promise, it will change your outlook on exercise. The workout is difficult, no matter how long you’ve been taking classes. But it is rewarding; you will see your body tighten up and transform, your posture will change, you will truly feel happier.
Before the Dailey Method, I was the type of person who would constantly talk about getting into shape without putting in legitimate effort. If I did join ever join a gym or club, it wasn’t long before I gave up and walked away. It was always such a drag to workout.
Everything about TDM, however, has made exercise enjoyable. I can’t believe I’m calling exercise «enjoyable»…but really, it has become that way! The workout feels so amazing… even when it hurts, even when I look like a shaking fool in round back position, even when the thigh workout feels like it’s going to make me fall flat on my face. It all feels SO good!
I also want to mention that the instructors are knowledgable and kind. They are willing to answer all of your questions and while instructing class, they truly take the time to fix your form and motivate you throughout class.

I had never enjoyed working out until I discovered barre. This is the second barre studio I have tried-​they had a deal on Living Social.
The classes work out various muscles to the point of exhaustion. It might seem slower-​paced but you WILL feel it the next day.
The instructors are energetic and nice. They even take the time to explain specific moves after class. The whole studio gives off a positive, inviting vibe. Going 3x/​week you will notice a difference in how your clothes fit in about a month. My core strength has improved considerably.
Give it a try. Barre will change your life!

I am pleased to write this review for DM. The workout is great and challenging. The staff here is mindful of the fact that not all students are at the same fitness level, so they educate and offer many variations to the workout.
The space is clean, vibrant and welcoming. The owner, Carly, is very educated in the DM workouts as well as the human anatomy as a whole. Her input helps guide students towards their fitness goals. The staff is a reflection of Carly and really motivate students during the classes. The environment overall is fun, challenging, warm and welcoming.
Also, they offer free childcare for the duration of your class… so thoughtful.

I went here with a local group for a private class and I got a very bad feeling about this place from the start. The owner was not very warm/​welcoming/​friendly, the studio itself as another reviewer posted is carpeted with a super rough carpet that is not at all comfortable. Additionally no modifications were suggested or offered for people with injuries. I simply had to sit and wait for the next exercise. I’m so glad I found The Barre Code right down the street — they are amazing, super friendly and accommodating!

It’s a good workout but Barre Code down the street is better. I guess if you’re a stay at home mom this place is great but if you’re someone who works not so much. The times of their classes are not very working people focused. The carpet in the room is horrible, i got carpet burns on my knees and arms when we were on the floor. And as someone who doesn’t have kids it’s annoying to have all the kids around, all the instructor I think her name was lindsay talked about was her kid. I don’t care about your kid Im here for a workout or at least I was. Nothing special.

Went to my first class at Dailey Method with Lisa-​it was fantastic! The class was fast-​paced and challenging. Lisa’s instructions were clear and motivating, I felt like the hour flew by. The facility is also super nice, clean, and accommodating.

This is the first exercise that I have actually stuck to in my life. I have jumped from crossfit, yoga, pilates, boxing etc but the Dailey Method is the first program that I look forward to going to everyday, and consistently attend 3−5x a week. The shining star here is Carly, the owner, who is equally as knowledgeable as she is motivating. I leave the studio feeling impowered, inspired, and more confident. Physical results follow and are a plus, but the mental aspect of this method is what has really stuck with me. That being said, every instructor is amazing here. I would disagree with the last reviewer’s comment– I feel an amazing sense of community here. The studio employees make an effort to know everyones name an assist you with your workout in any way possible. What a bonus that you can bring your kiddos for child care! The studio is impeccably clean, beautiful, and inviting. I am so thankful and grateful that I am able to take class here, and I am a TDMer for life!

My month membership at The Dailey Method expired and I am debating whether to renew it. While I liked the workout itself and think TDM has great amenities, I have to be honest and say that I never felt totally comfortable there. For paying $ 200 a month, I expect a lot out of a fitness studio; and one of the things that I loved about Pure Barre was that the instructors and owners really went out of their way to build a sense of community. I got notice that a new Pure Barre is opening in Novi and I am waiting to check that out. I am not sure if all PB’s are run the way that my old studio was but I loved the way the made everyone feel included; they did group challenges where we got to meet other members and «compete» on teams. At The Dailey Method, it didn’t have the same vibe. While the instructors were friendly, I didn’t feel that the overall vibe of the studio was inclusive and it there is a cliquey «Mean Girls» sort of attitude you encounter. I would still be willing to give it another shot but like I mentioned, for $ 200 I expect a lot.

I am obsessed with The Dailey Method. OBSESSED.
I constantly struggle with my body image especially my arms. I always WANT to work out and know in the back of my head that I should probably «hit the gym» but no classes or workout methods ever really seemed to click with me. I would start off strong and within a few weeks just stop.
I had heard about The Dailey Method (TDM) from my friends that live in Chicago and California. They always raved about it but I didn’t truly understand the awesomeness until I tried it out for myself. I remember driving by their future location on Woodward and seeing the «coming here soon» sign and getting SO excited. Little did I know how much it would change my life.
In case you were wondering what TDM is (quoting from their website): «TDM is a one-​hour class combining ballet barre work, core conditioning, stretching, and orthopedic exercises. The classes effectively strengthens, tones, and lengthens the entire body providing quick physical results.»
The studio is extremely clean and welcoming with available child care for a small fee if you are interested.
I love everything about the classes and an hour seems to go by in a split second. The instructors are ALWAYS switching up their routines and I have never been to the same class twice. Bonus: they also have great music!
The owner Carly truly seems to care about every single one of the people that come in and take classes here (you will be amazed how fast she learns your name) — I even received an email from her after class one day referencing my form. What other studio sends you random emails to touch on how you are progressing in class? Love it!
My body is transforming. I don’t remember the last time I actually have seen definition in my arms. I feel my posture has greatly improved, my thighs are shrinking and everything is toning up. No other workout that I have ever done (I have done a lot) has transformed my body like TDM has.
I am not going to lie. The workouts are HARD. Your legs will shake and you will learn to love planking. When you first start it takes some time learning TDM’s lingo (pretzal what? water ski where?) and how to properly set yourself up for various movements. Luckily, one of the things TDM prides itself on (and one of the things that I love) is that their instructors are very hands on during class. They are always walking around getting you into proper alignment.
I have been taking classes at TDM since February. I have been going 4 – 5 times a week. Not because I feel like I should go to class every day… but simply because I feel like my day is missing something if I don’t go. There are people of all ages and all sizes in class. Its a no judgement zone. People are working on their «practice» not focusing on anyone else.
Yes, the classes are a bit expensive… but it has totally been worth it for me and I would not trade my workouts here for anything.
Give yourself 10 classes. You will become an addict like me. I just don’t see how its possible not to!
