We specialize in being what others claim to be, a genuine man’s barber shop. We don’t offer you beer or a pool table to play at, that is what bars are for. Our shop just gives great haircuts, and world class face shaves. Come down today to experience the difference.

History

Established in 1949.

As the oldest business in Birmingham, The Barber Pole stays true to its roots. Originally owned by the Ege family, the shop was purchased by an employee in 2007. Stephen Trachsel sees the importance of keeping the 1949 ambiance alive in these changing times. You will step back in time when you visit this shop. The haircuts are great, and the conversation is always lively.

Where do I start? It’s been an unbelievable journey here at the Barber Pole. I have been the proprietor since 2007. Our little shop has 66 years of barbering history. I do not take this wealth of years lightly. I am so blessed to be where I am, and to work with such unbelievable barbers on a regular basis is wonderful. I have a beautiful, smart, caring wife, and three amazing children Lincoln (8), Cecelia (6), cash (3 ½).

When I found the Barber Pole, it was exactly what I was looking for: Walk-​in, talented, up-​to-​date barbers and inexpensive. I used to go to a few other more well-​known barbers, but couldn’t stand that I had to make appointments 1 – 2 weeks in advance. With these guys, I just drop in at my convenience and am out the door usually in less that 45 minutes.
I have been with 3 different barbers here. two of which where great, one which was just okay (and she had a bad attitude). They gave me exactly what I asked for, and did it well.
Good job, you are what a barber shop should be.

The Barber Pole provided straight razor shaves for my husband and our groomsmen the morning of our wedding. They were able to fit in (with an appointment) 7 shaves with 2 barbers between 8am and 11am.
My husband and the groomsmen couldn’t stop talking about how great a experience it was. None of them had gotten a straight razor shave before, so they were really fascinated with the process. While waiting, they even had fun things to do like play chess. Best yet, they all agreed that the barbers are really cool guys and are very skilled.
My husband was so thrilled to get pampered in a manly way before our wedding, so I’m glad that The Barber Pole made that possible!
Just remember: cash only!

First and foremost: Cash Only! However, there is a Chase ATM ½ a block away.
The In and out is very quick. Come in, sit down, and wait to be called. These gentlemen do an excellent job!
The hot lather on the neck is also a nice touch.

I’ve been going to the barber pole since I was a boy. Very local and charming feel, and Stephen (the owner) has made the place so much classier and welcoming.
All the barbers are great, both in personality and skill. They are always striking up conversation and are very friendly.
$ 20 for a regular cut, very reasonable for a local shop in Birmingham. I plan on coming back here until I move too far away or kick the bucket!

Tried everything under the sun, by far the coolest and best cuts in SE Michigan are at the Barber Pole. All the barbers are great, but i exclusively use Ryan. Hands down one of the best barbers in Michigan if not the U.S. I travel quite a bit and I’ve gotten cuts all over the U.S. and Ryan knows how to maximize your style of cut. To take it to another step he also gives me one hell of a straight edge close shave. I actually fall asleep through it as he knows how to shave you in style and comfort. If you get a chance to try Ryan out, do it, you will be hooked!

You look all around and you will see barbershops everywhere. They seem like a dime a dozen. Even though there are barbershops everywhere you see, but you only have one Barber Pole in Birmingham, Mi. With the Barber Pole, comes history that is as old as the city. The shop is very unique and almost allows you to step back in time. They do everything from haircuts, straight shaves in shoeshining. While you wait, you can enjoy a game of checkers, conversation in some news on the TV. They offer products for men from hair Products, shaving products, shop memorabilia, etc.
You want a good cut and a great straight shave, Go see Stephen Trachsel. Stephen gives you the personalized service you expect when you come to the Barber Pole. The prices are reasonable and the service is it outstanding. You won’t regret it.

The last time I had a haircut at the «Barber Pole» was in mid August and since I live on the east side I haven’t been able to come in until today; and, boy do I miss this place.
My older barber was good in all but she could not part my hair like Travis could (picture included). He was super down to earth and knew exactly what I was going for. The hard part made the whole haircut look top notch.
I love the classic short on the sides longer on the top haircut. It is such a simple look yet clean. However, not everyone can achieve that cleanses, they achieved it.
Since I don’t have facial hair I couldn’t tell you the shaves; but, I can tell you that they have a designated station where to get one and each shave will run you $ 36 while beard trimmings are $ 6. In addition, my haircut was $ 20.
Highly recommended for a relaxed and clean haircut that will not disappoint your wallet.

I’ve tried many barber shops and salons in the area and this became the one I frequented. I have gotten my hair cut by most of the barbers here and consistently had good results. Sometimes one of the barber’s dogs hangs out at the shop and she is very sweet.

I have been here 3 times now and Travis is great at what he does. Each time I go in he recognizes me and what numbers he used on my last cut. He takes the time upfront to find out if I liked the last cut or how can he adjust it for this cut. Oh yeah, the straight razor shave on the back of the neck is a bonus. If your looking for old school style barbers, check this place out. It is usually full of conversations with a great mix of people. Their pre-​shave oil is great as well.

After researching the web I decided to check out the Barber Pole for a beard trim. I can never get my lines straight or even when trying to trim at home. I walked in and was greeted by very friendly people and Travis offered to trim and line my beard up. 15 minutes later I looked like a new person and couldn’t be happier! He gave me a coupon for $ 3.00 of my next visit and ill definitely be back soon!

Took my son in for a haircut. Cindy was very nice and did a great job. Made my 6 year old feel very much like a grown up to have his hair cut at a barber shop. No credit cards is a bummer. Was glad i had cash with me.

Nothing like a good old fashioned barber cut.
I came in on a Monday because I needed my do did for a meeting and my regular hair stylist was not working. I actually prefer barber cuts to most hair «stylist» cuts. Why? I like the atmosphere, and the experience. A nice warm lather shaving cream and straight razor clean up on the back of the neck and above the ears? Yes please. They even had a puppy in there that day, which was very entertaining. $ 20 for a cut… she even trimmed my eyebrows. Free parking in the garage that is a block away. Can’t beat it.

When I called to ask a question, the girl on the phone was rude and abrasive — not in a hurry and quick, but NASTY. 55+ years? So what. Good barbers are a dime-​a-​dozen in Detroit. This one won’t get a penny from me.

I love a straight-​razor shave. I’ve had it done at a couple of places in the Troy-​Royal Oak-​Birmingham-​Clawson area. I have been most satisfied with the shaves that I got at The Barber Pole.
At another place, I have had some other shaves where I felt that my face wasn’t quite prepared as well as it could have been. One shave even left me a bit cut up. I’ve never had that problem at The Barber Pole. I feel like they know what they’re doing at The Barber Pole, and I’m happy to recommend them. They give me a close, comfortable shave each time.
I can’t say anything about the haircuts, because I have never gotten one at The Barber Pole.

I’ve been coming here for years. Now they are open at 7Am and until 7PM. The haircuts are basic as are the prices. You always get your neck shaved which is my favorite part of a haircut. Always a great value. This is a downtown Birmingham anchor and I think it’s been here for over 40 years.

I just went to this place recently and my hair stylist was really good! It was $ 18 for a regular haircut. Which is about the right price since it’s in downtown Birmingham.
My Hair cutter was Cyndi so I recommend her.
