This is def a great place to grab a beer. The décor is nice and creative. They used old bikes and bras to hang on the ceiling. They had all kinds of beers to choose from. I think it would be even better if liquor was served. I enjoyed the burgers but they were smaller than I expected. The waitress was sweet and attentive. The basketball game was on which made eating and drinking quite fun. I would say all beer drinkers and burger eaters stop by. Enjoy a burger and beer and watch a game !

Let’s clear up any confusion — this is a bar. It is a bar that serves food. And not very good food — the fries are standard issue Sysco crinkle cut. The burger allegedly is some fine beef, but it is so overcooked as to be strong. In fact, after my waitress said it could be done medium rare, she saw that it was overcooked and had another one brought to me(very nice, not her fault). Burger #2 — same temp — dark grey all the way through. The buns — standard issue grocery store bun. The«cheddar» cheese looked exactly like slices of American«cheese» available at Walmart. A few other commenters have noted that this is a small burger. Think backyard college cookout buns, cheese, burger size with a chef not adept at doing anything but cooking the meat until it’s well done. I guess people like the curious combinations of things on the burgers, but, for me, it’s all about the quality of the meat and adds. There are many places in Birmingham that offer fresh cut fries, great burgers, cooked to order, with high quality adds(Flip Burger for one). Go here to drink. Don’t go here for the food.

I have been getting a few negative comments about this review but I am not going to be pressured into changing my review or rating. I went to and did a search on HOTDOGS before going to this restaurant… if they are not going to sell them they shouldn’t have came up on the search. EVEN though we didn’t order food. I still left her a sizable tip for drinks… The sodas were less than $ 2 each… I left her almost $ 3 dollar tip for taking up her table for all of 15 minutes when we were the ONLY customers in the place… It wasn’t like there was a wait for tables or people dying to eat here… So, if she had issues with us taking her table and stopping people from seating and leaving her a larger tip for 15 minutes of her time on our drink order since we were PAYINGCUSTOMERS… then I am sorry… and to the OWNEROFTHISESTABLISHMENT… if your locals, favorite customers, friends or family are leaving me the negative comments… then this only hurts YOUANDYOURJOINT… not great Customer Service nor very polite… I wanted HOT DOGs this particular day, I searched for Hot Dogs in Birmingham and your restaurant came up… Sorry you didn’t offer HOTDOGS… but to be truthful, I left because you were MORE of a BEERJOINT than a place to eat any food in my opinion… and after all of the negative comments your friends have been sending me over the past few days, I would never come back and do a real review of your food…

I was in Birmingham for the day and looked up a place to get a good burger. Jacks had rave reviews so I picked them. There are a bunch of good and bad to discuss. First of all the actually restaurant… the good: — very cool, lots to look at. I only stayed at the front bar to order to go so I don’t know how big it is but it seemed to he a decent size. –They have cartoon network playing on the tv. –The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bad: –the music seemed really loud, but I think I was getting a headache so maybe it just seemed loud, or maybe that’s what caused it, anyway, the place seems like a great hang out. Food: the menu is small but wonderful. A few specialty burgers, some sides and a daily burger special. There’s a bar too but I didn’t have time to indulge in that today. i ordered the Danny Larusso, because I have always loved the karate kid. On the burger– some kind of cheese(I think cream cheese), and a sweet jalapeño jam. I’ll start with the bad so I can end on a high note. –they didn’t ask what temp I wanted my burger, maybe I should have spoken up when ordering but it came out well done =(they are so excited about the quality/kind of meat they use and then ruin it by drying it out. –it was a bit dry… see above –for $ 8.24 including tax it was a small burger. It doesn’t even come with a side, which was fine I just wanted a burger but I would have thought it would be less expensive, or a bigger burger for the price. *side note* I’m a 5’6″ 108 pound girl so if I’m saying it’s small it is. I’m not some 6’8″ football player with a one pound burger in front of me calling it small. The good: –the burger did have good flavor, even if dry. –the bun was toasted to perfection which is so important to me. An untoasted bun is so gross –the jalapeño jam was fantastic. I’d put it on everything. To sum it up if I lived in Birmingham I might stop in again at some point in my life, but since I don’t if I ever end up in Birmingham I would probably just try somewhere different.

Great place for a burger and a beer. Go figure. Had the Popeye and a Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale. Great meal for under $ 20. The burger was smaller than expected but right sized for my appetite. It was delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. I’ll be back.

Very good burgers, nice beer selection, cool staff, awesome place. Figure $ 10+ per before drinks. Beers can get pricy. Not a cheap burger place by any means but yummy. Can be loud and very limited seating so being your patience. All that said, awesome!

Service: Amazing. I am a wheelchair user and the workers there easily accommodated me with such class. Our server was very attentive and helpful. Food: Even better than amazing. My wife had the Greg Brady and I had the Chiflet without bacon. You can tell the meat is of very high quality. These aren’t gigantic burgers. But they are very tasteful and very reasonably priced. The different burgers are all unique and I cannot wait to try them all! We finished off with the fried Oreos. These are only $ 1 each and are definitely worth it! I highly recommend this restaurant and the food here.

Exceptional burgers!!! Want with a group of 10 friends for lunch. The staff accommodated all of us at the same area together. Special request was made for one of the daily burger specials on a day not offered. The staff made it happen to a very appreciative group. The Caprese burger Is a definite hit that is bringing us all back again! Not being a beer drinker is a shame since there’s so many choices available. Do yourself a favor and visit Jack Brown’s.

I’m a big fan of Jack Brown’s for multiple reasons. First, and most importantly, their burgers are delicious. Like, I will wait for a table for an hour or just eat it standing up, delicious. They’re not huge, but I actually like not feeling like I had to wrestle my burger into my mouth. Their sweet potato fries are the perfect compliment. I don’t love that they have to be ordered separately, but they’re so good that I can’t hold it against them. My favorite burger is the cowboy. It’s got BBQ, cheese, and bacon on it. I also prefer extra BBQ on the side to dip both it and my fries in. I’ve not had one of their fried oreos, but I’m sure they’re yummy. Oh, and if you go on Wednesday nights, it’s pint night. Order a pint of beer from the featured brewery and get one of their pint glasses to take home with you(while supplies last of course).

Good variety of beers, good atmosphere. The Cowboys burger was good, sweet potatoe fries was good too but the portion size was poor. Overall good but expensive for the portion size

Tight little beer selection. I want to try the food but at this point the 4 stars are based solely on atmosphere, the beautiful women behind the bar and the bar stock. Keep me drinking!

Is one of the best burger joints in Birmingham! It’s a simple burger, nothing fancy, just burgers done right! They use fantastic wagyu beef that’s so flavorful and moist! My husband and I have learned to go during the lunch/early evening hours on Saturday in order to really enjoy ourselves. Usually at this time the crowds are low, a ball game is on and you’re able to kick your feet up and treat your taste buds with brews and burgers. I’ve tasted the following in order of favs: 1) The Baby Jack– a Friday night special that stole my heart with fresh crispy lettuce. **This is the only night you’ll find lettuce on the burgers. 2) Cheeseburger– simple classic 3) The Cowboy-I suddenly felt a desire for bacon and asked for the BBQ on the side If your party is small(2ppl), it’s cheaper to just order a basket of fries for the table vs per burger This is meal you can almost guarantee will be great! I love the slogan, «No, we don’t have WiFi; talk to each other!» Weekly event: **Wednesday Smack Down where they showcase a brewery each Wednesday. If customers drink a pint, they receive a free pint glass from the showcased brewer of the week. Emily is pretty awesome: knowledgeable and extremely patient. She offered suggestions, took the time to ask what we liked and countered with options. Gotta love great service!

Currently the Duke of this place(at least last weekend) and I live in Hoover! I love me some Jack Brown’s man! Burgers are simple, but so tasty! All burgers have funky names such as «Danny Laruso», «The Greg Brady» or one of my personal favs currentl… «Jack on Piggy Back». The Jack on Piggy Back is a burger topped with split & griddled hot dog, with pickled jalapeños & cheddar cheese. I love it. There are burgers with eggs, mac n cheese, potato chips… a little something for everybody. The taste to cost ratio is what I love most. Burgers are usually around $ 8(fries a little extra). I’d rather pay $ 8 for a non massive burger and love it than $ 15 for a mediocre tasting belly buster! Perhaps your preference opposes mine, and that’s fine! All burgers(that I’ve had) and fries come with a side of sauce that appears to be some kind of jazzed up ketchup/mayo mixture or something. Very good for dipping. Also if you’re a brew nut, there’s a fairly vast selection of brews to choose from. Most are cans/bottles and I believe they only do 4 taps currently. #protip — every Thursday they do a tap takeover of a different brewery if you’re into that kind of thing. Down in a growing Avondale, this is by far one of my favorite places in town. Servers that I’ve interacted with are all awesome as well btw! Give em a shot if you’re nearby!

Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint is my kind of place. I can appreciate anything with a simple model — good beer and good burgers. The Chieflet is my jam and is really the only burger I eat at Jack Brown’s. Recently, I tried the Greg Brady after being tempted to many times by friends to try it. The burger is something serious and sounds unhealty. However, the combination of mac-n-cheese and bacon equals a delicious burger!!! Other than the stellar burgers, I really only stop by Jack Brown’s to try their revolving beer list and I’m attempting to join the 100 Club ranks on the wall. you have to consistently come in and drink different brews at least every two months until you get to 100 to become a member. All in all, I love the selection of beers, great burgers, friendly service, and quirky décor!

A bacon cheeseburger between two donuts is just as good as it sounds. That’s their Sunday special, and it’s well worth it. They have a great beer menu, but I wish they would start by telling you what they’re out of so that you don’t waste your time choosing. Their fried oreos are great too, I had a half dozen. Service was attentive, but I was sitting at the bar like I prefer.

This place doesn’t look like much from the outside. In fact, it looks pretty bad from the outside. But as the phrase goes, «it does exactly what it says on the tin.» Jack Brown’s *is* a beer and burger joint. Huge selection of beers in cans and bottles with a few on tap. And a dozen or so creatively named and assembled burgers. Not much for seating, there are almost a dozen high top tables with backless stools and another dozen plus seats at the bar also with backless stools. Not exactly comfy, but they got the job done. I had two beers, neither of which I had ever had before. Both were cold and served in frosty cold glasses. For my burger, I chose«The Greg Brady.» Yes, that’s what they call it. No, I don’t know why. On top of a grilled burger patty, mac & cheese. And barbecue potato chips. I swear! Look at the picture. It was AWESOME. Not the biggest burger I’ve ever had, probably a quarter pounder, but with crinkle fries and two beers, I was pretty well stuffed. Parking is interesting. I was wondering whether or not I’d still have all my glass, but the car was fine. Beer. Burgers. Go to Jack Brown’s. If you enjoy it HALF as much as I did, you’ll have a great time.

I’m a big fan of Jack Brown’s. I almost always get the Chiflet, which is a bacon cheeseburger with a nice runny fried egg. The flavors are great and it always comes out piping hot. I love their fries. However, they’re kind of divisive. They are not cut on site and they are crinkle fries. I don’t care; they’re crunchy and go fantastic with the mayo-based dipping sauce. You’ll have to judge for yourself there. There are a couple of things that I don’t love about Jack Brown’s. For one, why bother having such a high quality of beef if you’re just going to ground it up, fry it on a flat top until well done, then slap it on a bun with a mess of toppings? You could do the same thing with a soy burger and it would taste about the same. The taste is great, but acting all fancy about your quality beef is a bit silly. The other thing is that Jack Brown’s doesn’t serve liquor. They have enough beer to keep a fraternity house going for years, but not a drop of liquor. I don’t know, maybe that’s an unreasonable expectation, but for a restaurant in Lakeview that’s open until 2AM, it seems weird.

THEBESTBURGERINTHEHAM!!! We have lived here for 18 years and have spent most of that time trying to find the perfect burger. I’m happy to say that we’ve finally found it — At Jack Brown’s.(so good we had to go twice in three days!) Great atmosphere in the old sol y luna restaurant location in Lakeview. They’ve done only a BIT of renovation to the space, so it feels as comfy as when it was sol y luna. Bar seating with stools and high boy tables all around — You can eat outside in the back as well. Ill agree with some of the others — it definitely has an upscale«dive bar» feel to it. The staff is pleasant, attentive without being in-your-face pushy. TONS of beer selections — probably the best i have seen in the ham! The menu is simple with the focus solely on the burger, with a Waygu beef patty(or two if you’re my husband). I opted for the Shocker, which has jalapeño AND habenero pepper. It’s pretty spicy(so you’re going to need that aforementioned beer). The hubs had a double cheeseburger. They’re served with a crispy dill spear and you can add ketsup and mustard at the table if you’d like. We got an order of regular fries and an order of sweet potato fries. Im not usually a crinkle nut, but these fries were damn good! The sweet potato fries were CRISPY(I dare anyone to top that — sweet potato fries are NEVER crispy!) without being burned. And, as an added treat, you still get to see Alex Castro behind the bar — just like old times!
