Holiday Inn Express & Suites Birmingham – Inverness 280

Hotel staff is very nice and room seems clean. Internet connection is good. However, the bed is horribly uncomfortable. I’m writing this review at 3:45 am because I can’t sleep on it. The lampshade is broken, the clock doesn’t work, and the AC won’t cool below about 72 degrees. I could deal with everything except the mattress.

WE stayed at this hotel in August 2015. This hotel was very clean and well kept. Most importantly though, EVERY single employee that we talked with or encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. I made a point to tell the manager this upon our departure and assured her that I would review this location on Unilocal:) Go Holiday Inn in Birmingham for making our stay comfortable!

Great hotel — plenty of eateries around the corner. Updated hotel nice furnishings, bathrooms are clean and updated — great shower head — I need one of those. Rooms clean and updated — wish they had a bigger TV — but it was a flat screen. Hotel staff very friendly. Breakfast was great loved the pancakes, they also have hot items like eggs, sausage, gravy, and plenty of the other stuff. This hotel must have a great manager — everyone on point and friendly– keep up the good work. One of my favorite hotels when traveling in Birmingham.

I have stayed here 3 times in the last month or so for business and it is better than OK but not as nice as my favorite Mid-​priced Birmingham hotel, the Hampton Inn at Colonnade just down the street. So why stay here? For one, it is very reasonably priced: less than $ 100 per night, also, it is located smack in the middle of the 280 core in the Inverness area, tucked right behind Dixie Fish House and Logan’s. I mention this because it is not easy to spot the hotel at first from 280.
Rooms are spacious and contemporary in style. Lobby is nicely decorated and service is very accommodating: even letting me use the boardroom for free twice for small meetings which would have been difficult to do in the lobby area as there are only coffee tables in that space, not really work height tables to spread out materials.
This current stay is not quite as good though as after a 14 hour day on the road and arriving at the hotel at 10 pm, I was checked in and upgraded to a nice suite but after getting unpacked, showered and ready to climb in to bed and finally relax, I discovered that the TV does not work! Ugh. I called the front desk to see if there was a quick fix to get the error message of «no signal» removed but the night supervisor could only offer to move me to a different room, but that was not a good option as far as I was concerned after just getting settled so for the first night and now the next morning, I have no TV working in my room for entertainment or background noise.

Great value. We needed two rooms to break up our long car trip, and found this. Clean, spotless linens, comfortable beds, free wireless and breakfast. Pool was open til 11pm, though our kids were too tired to try it — saw many others were taking advantage of pool though. I was quite impressed for the price. It seems to be a well managed hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

Quick and easy check-​in, and hotel manager let us plug in RV so we could keep it from freezing in unexpected low temps they forecast for that night.
The hotel is tucked off a very busy road we’ll simply call the devils highway. Forget going anywhere once you get to your hotel room; the traffic on this road is some of the worst I have ever seen and seems to be a never-​ending stream of cars during both morning and evening rush hours. Plenty of nearby restaurants, services etc you just can’t get to them easily during morning/​evening high-​traffic flow.
Negative: Internet didn’t work in-​room and I had to stand in hallway to connect enough to reply or send e-​mail. Plus; Good value (Hotwire); breakfast and it was quiet, and the bed comfortable.

Traveling through and needed two rooms for the night. Front desk was efficient and friendly. The rooms were both very clean and very comfortable. Haha, I am remembering strange little (narrow) hallways. The breakfast was not for champions — we opted to go offsite and pay for a quality meal.
Location — we happened to crawl there and I thought it was much farther than it actually was BUT when we left the next morning. we got on the freeway quickly. I’d stay again.

Pillows were like individual cotton balls inside. Hard to get comfortable cause it’s like you were laying only on the pillow case. Room air didn’t cool well. Tried to check in at 245 and told there was a shortage of rooms we’d have to wait until 3 pm but we had to be some place else at 4. So we didn’t get a chance to freshen up and had to change clothes in public restroom. Won’t stay at a Holiday Inn again.

Dirty, torn upholstered furniture. Mildew and grime in bathrooms. Non-​working air conditioner in first room and a barely working air conditioner in second room. Toilets difficult to flush in both rooms. Second room had large pieces of wood furniture just missing, so bare spots in room. Noisy, squeeky beds. Saw a roach. The place is just rundown and poorly maintained.

Update, Nov. 2014: I have stayed there more than 70 nights since my first review, and I’ve always been happy with the accommodations and service. Highly recommended.

Clean and pleasant, very courteous staff. The rooms have a small fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker. The beds have long pillows labeled «soft» and «firm» so you can choose your preference.
The facilities include an indoor pool and hot tub. They serve a free buffet breakfast that’s pretty good, with a number of options: eggs, meat (bacon, ham, or sausage), cereal, yogurt, fruit, pastries, and really good coffee. I’m addicted to their buttermilk biscuits.
It can be hard to spot, because it’s back from the road with a sign that’s barely visible, and Google Maps doesn’t have it quite right. When going north on 280, it’s the turnoff on the right just past Logan’s Road House. My taxi drivers have always known where it is.
The location is excellent if you’re going to the Southern Company HQ. Their parking lot is just a 10′ path through some trees. A Super Target around the block has standard stuff plus a full size grocery store.
Eats: Many places and diverse types within a short drive. Logan’s Roadhouse and Dixie Fish are a 5 min walk up the road. Pizza and Chinese food delivery are available; ask the front desk for menus.
Late night eats: Most places close by 9 pm, Logan’s at 10. After that, there’s a 24-​hour McDonalds and a Taco Bell open until 4 am just ½-​mile away — walkable if you want.

We checked in and they were super nice as usual. Then we got to our room and saw we were missing our tv remote. So o went to call the front desk but the phone didn’t work. So we went to the front desk and they fully apologized and changed our room in like two seconds. They were so nice about it. I love holiday inn express. They are always clean and nice. 5 stars.
