Hawthorne At Lake Heather

We lived here for a year in 2006 – 2007. For basic garden-​style apartments, they are pretty nice and in a lovely secluded location. Some of the buildings have lake views. We had a three bedroom, two bath, and it was spacious and comfortable: open kitchen, big windows, nice walk-​in closets.
The one negative experience we had was that when we moved in, the carpet in our unit was in terrible shape. It was very worn, stained, and even patched in places. There was literally a 1-​foot-​square patch in the middle of the living room floor.
I complained to the rental office and they said, «We didn’t promise you new carpet.» Well, yes — but they bill themselves as «luxury apartments,» and the state of our carpet was in no way compatible with luxury.
I made it clear that I was was going to be a PITA about it, and someone from the management company ended up coming to check it out. She took one look at it and said, «OMG — this carpet should have been replaced.» She seemed really annoyed with the people in the rental office.
The next week, they installed new carpet. The whole situation was a hassle for us because it delayed our unpacking for over a week, but ultimately we were happy they addressed the issue.
Overall, we enjoyed living there. Dealing with traffic on 280 was a pain at times, but for us living in a nice location was worth the commute.
