Do not ever trust your car to AAMCO. I am not sure how the other locations work or operate, but the one located on 6th ave S in Birmingham is just AWFUL. They rebuilt my transmission several months ago, and I’ve taken it back several times since for it to be repaired, and each time the issue was never fixed. Now they’ve had it for 2 weeks, and in that span of time they did not contact me very often, nor did they return the dozens of messages I left almost begging for someone to call me and let me know what was going on. And to top it all off, they were supposed to leave my car locked in their lot so I could come get it after class tonight, and what do I find? My car is not there. So the only 2 options here are 1. They somehow forgot to leave it for me to get it, or 2. They didn’t lock it and it is stolen. I have never received such awful customer service, and if I had an option, I would not have kept trusting them to work on my car. So now I’m stuck waiting until 7am to find out just how incompetent they really are. Either they didn’t do what they told me they were going to do(again) or they were negligent and left my car unlocked with the key in it.

This place is a disaster in every sense of the word! This is, quite simply, the worst automotive experience of my life! I was referred here when my transmission went out. At first, I didn’t know that I was dealing with an AAMCO as I was handling it through a third party. Had I known what I know now, I would have avoided it like the plague! My transmission was rebuilt fairly quickly for the tidy sum of $ 2,500, but it wasn’t two weeks before it started acting up again. We took it back in, but alas, they couldn’t find a problem. Note that it took a week for them to «not find a problem». I got the car back and it was acting up ONTHEWAYHOME! I decided to get a second opinion. The second place I took it to said that the transmission was shot and third gear was gone. I called back AAMCO, rather unhappy and told them to fix my transmission, as it was under warranty. They INSISTED that it was the computer that now needed to be replaced and that he would«help me out» by installing a new computer to see if that resolved the issue. If it did, I would owe him only $ 400, if it didn’t he would fix my transmission as promised. After ANENTIREWEEK of no work being done because«the part hasn’t come it», I understandably begin to get a little angry. Literally every day when I called them(when I could actually get a hold of them), I was told the car would be done the next day, but when the next day would roll around I was given the same excuse. This went on for a week. Keep in mind that they hardly EVER answered the phone, so I was finally forced to go down there and speak to them face to face. The poor guy just couldn’t get the computer programed. Poor guy. FINALLY, the computer is installed and programmed, and things seem to be finished for good this time. Fast forward four months to the present and now my car will randomly and intermittently refuse to start. After taking it to an HONEST mechanic, I’m told that it’s most likely the computer. Great. Oh, by the way, the computer only had a 90 day warranty. Oh, and by the way, the computer isn’t new as discussed, rather, it’s been rebuilt. What a joke. I genuinely have no idea what he did or did not do. Now I’ll either have to shell out more money on who knows what at a reputable mechanic, or just get a new car altogether. All thanks to the fine folks an AAMCO! Please, I beg of you, avoid this place! Learn from my mistake! Run, don’t walk away! All of the five star reviews you see on Google are probably completely fake as there is no way a place this incompetent and shady can get such glowing reviews. Go somewhere else and save yourself a lot of money, time and trouble.

**BEWARE** This Aamco is absolutely awful. From beginning to end, my experience here was nothing short of hell. I was lied to multiple times by a dirt bag liar named Birch that apparently runs this place. My estimate was $ 1100 but once they had my car torn apart the bill became over $ 3500! Less than 500miles later I was back in the shop needing more transmission related repairs. Stay away…
