Had dinner there last night for the first time… and last. Looked forward to prime rib so both husband and I ordered the larger 16 oz. size. Soup of the day was good. Prime rib was tough and over cooked and certainly didn’t look like 16 ozs. Baked potato was under done and nothing to boast about. Service was uneventful… we were never told the specials of the day or offered more bread. Dinner dishes were finally cleared off by another waitress as our waiter had disappeared. Too pricey for what we got for sure!

Great food and great service. My steak was cooked just perfect. And the garlic mashed potatoes was equally perfect. The only negative thing was I like my salad dressing on the side and not on the salad. Nonetheless it tasted great. Others in my party also enjoyed there meals.

I’ve eaten here twice and the steaks are great. I grew up in Texas and know just s little about good quality steak. Montana beef is certainly up to the test! I have had both the prime rib and ribeye both of which are great. Service was good and the crème brûlée was really creamy with a nice crisp Carmel top. I am from out of town but I will be back!

Outstanding on every level… except bottled wine prices seem a tad high… Drink Beer! I’ve been dining here for decades & have had literally everything on the menu. The staff are great and the place is very well managed! Wife and I love the bar in the winter. Sit along the windows while it’s snowing in the downtown atmosphere! Best of the best in my opinion, by category. Appetizers: Hot Dungeness Crab Salad: Halibut Caprese Steak: Peppered New York Seafood: Pan Fried Shrimp(my favorite item on the menu… and I don’t generally order shrimp at any restaurant). Chicken: Chicken Christopher(2nd favorite!) Pasta: Chicken & Broccoli(3rd favorite… and enough food for like three meals… take it home and enjoy leftovers). This is one of the very few restaurants in Billings, MT where I’ve never had a bad experience. It’s ALWAYS outstanding. We chose to have our Christmas parties here with a limited menu(that we get to choose the menu) and they serve 60 people every bit as well as they do a table of 4. It’s downtown so parking sucks. Get over it. Go… Dine. Relax… Enjoy!

Ate in the dining room around closing time. Atmosphere was quiet & a traditional higher end feel, food was good, and the drinks were a solid pour(on the stronger side). Husband and I each had two drinks and a steak dinner and our total was ~$ 90 before tip. Note: The medium rare is on the rarer side, food is served in the dinning room until 10pm and in the bar until 10:30pm

Drivingwise, it had been a very productive Friday morning — 415 miles from Bismarck, North Dakota in just over five hours, which may explain why we were pulled over just west of Miles City — except that it wasn’t for speeding, it was for a check to see whether we had the proper paperwork for our rental car(word to fellow travelers — keep such documentation readily available). Anyway, 415 miles or not, we were hungry by the time we entered Montana’s largest city. We took the North 27th Street exit to take us to City Center, allowing us views of such vistas as the Women’s Prison, Pizza Hut, and the Lucky Cuss Casino. At last downtown greeted us, and when we saw Jake’s, we made a quick decision to park at a nearby garage and go in. At first we were excited — this seemed like a classic steakhouse, where one could get any type of slab of meat they wanted and pick up a bit of the local gossip while they were at it. Well, Jake’s was indeed that way in certain respects. Unfortunately, the joint didn’t exactly greet us. Upon walking in, there was no indication as to whether we were supposed to wait for a greeter or sit ourselves. One waitress vaguely gestured to us that we could go wherever we wanted. So we did, only to be intercepted by another waitress who looked rather pissed, who guided us to the table we had intended to sit at. Yes, that is one of my pet peeves. Our apparent cardinal sin of not knowing the seating protocol may have been the reason why our service was at best indifferent, but I’m chalking it up to drawing the wrong waitress. I will say that my buffalo burger more than met my expectations, and although the fact that Billings is one of the more isolated towns in America sports-wise, televisions were attuned to a number of ESPN-like stations, which I appreciated. And in spite of the restaurant’s name, there were some vegetarian options, in fact it seemed one could order almost anything they wanted.

What you would expect a bar centric restaurant to be like. Great selection of brews and typical bar food. My husband and I both ordered their specialty burgers. I had the avocado salsa burger while my husband had the smokehouse burger. Both were cooked to perfection and delicious. The customer service, however, left much to be desired. When we entered there wasn’t anyone to greet us or signage to say what to do. After a few minutes, one told us to seat ourselves but apparently we chose wrong. Our waitress just wasn’t a happy camper serving us throughout the meal. Thus why this place with five star food gets three stars.

I have been to steak houses ranging from Outback Steakhouse to Ruth’s Chris to Smith & Wollensky, so in mid May when I visited from California for the first time, I had great expectations. The restaurant is downtown in a prominent, century old building with fantastic décor. It appears to thrive on its mainstay as a prominent, historic Billings dinner spot. The outside is vibrantly lit and the bar has an inviting, lively atmosphere, but that’s about where my dining experience ended. The food was overpriced, and I was underwhelmed by my very poor cut of rib eye — I didn’t even finish the $ 30 dinner entrée. The baked potato was so so, but the wedge salad was a solid offering. Beyond that, there was not much to rave about. I even politely told our server about my experience when she inquired, and she said she would let the owner/manager know right away. No one ever responded. The bottom line is, go for a drink and enjoy the turn-of-the-century, rustic Montana interior, but have your dinner somewhere else.

Great food and fair price. The place is great and our server was named Jake so that was easy to remember. The prime rib was perfect and the wine list deep. I recommend this to all people wanting a nice dinner

I’ll start with the bad first: 1. Husbands prime rib was overcooked. Asked for medium, came out medium well, almost well done. 2. Cherry mojito was very bland. Not good, especially for the price. 3. Seafood pasta was overpowered with the sauce. A whole lotta cheese sauce. 4. Seafood pasta came with ONE scallop. That was what I was looking forward to the most. 5. Lobster was overcooked, made it kinda rubbery. 6. Kept getting sand grits in my Seafood Pasta, I know that can’t be helped sometimes though. Now the highlights/good about Jake’s : 1. Strawberry Champagne Martini was delicious. 2. Potstickers were an interesting appetizer, very appetizing. 3. Although the cheese sauce overpowered the Seafood Pasta, it was a good sauce. 4. Interior was very warm, and sorta friendly. 5. Husband did like Prime Rib a lot, even though it was overcooked. Overall, if I go back I’ll just get a steak. It was my bad for getting seafood at a steak house. If you aren’t afraid to indulge, this will be good place to go. However, I don’t really think the food quality fit the prices. Find that a lot out here though.

This steakhouse was a bit on the pricey side. The service was OK! Staff did their job as for service, nothing special otherwise. The menu was somewhat decent, again a bit pricey for what was actually served. Pan fried shrimp, uhhh, its probably better to get that at your local grocery store, breaded fried shrimp from sizzlers would be best to describe what i’ve received. Other than that, it was just an okay place. It is located across the hotel i’ve stayed at so that was a plus, especially during snow season. If you’re really looking for something fancy to eat, i’d suggest maybe this place but theres also other restaurants around the corner.

First, the good… great vibe and very nice atmosphere. Loved the sweeping wooden staircase in the lobby. We were greeted fairly promptly and seated without reservation at 7:30p on a Friday night. The wine list was extensive but marginal in quality. The not so good. our server was very nice but a bit overwhelmed. Not unprofessional though. The attention to service was just not there. Plates were left on the table after finishing their contents. The staff didn’t help clear for each other. Just not good overall dining room management. The table itself had nicks in it. The clam chowder was fresh, but it sat in a warmer and the base thickened. The crab/artichoke dip tasted fishy. The bread served with it was way too thick. The 6 oz filet was cooked to my request, but the meat was not that good. The baked potato had been sitting in a warmer for too long. It was done but had that odd texture of being baked but felt steamed too. I just wasn’t impressed overall sadly after we dropped just over a Franklin to dine there.

Great venue. Great steaks, ambience. It is nice to know there is fine dining in Billings. They can even pour a greats Sapphire martini straight up with olives. Started with a Caesar salad(great) and a a rib eye once and New York steak another time. Love their steaks. Tender, flavorful. My friends enjoyed the experience as well, one having the salmon which she loved. Service was superb and I have no complaints at all about this restaurant and recommend. Parking is easy and the location is right in the heart of downtown.

My associate and I had dinner here tonight. I read the reviews about the Baseball Sirloin and decided to order it. My favorite way to have it cooked is Pittsburg, char-rare. This steak was charred perfectly and the inside temperature was exactly to my liking. It was actually the best Pittsburg style I have ever eaten!!! Others have tried this chef has it perfected. My associate had Jakes filet and it was right on target. Our server, Natalllia, enhanced our dining experience! She was terrific, knew the menu well, made several great recommendations, was very upbeat and personable. The prices are decent considering the side and salad are included. Not to leave out the bartender… Ordered a slightly dirty Martini, Gin of course, and it was made the way it should be made with the right amount of olive juice, vermouth and gin, «shaken not stirred» of course.

Jake’s Steakhouse is the best part of downtown Billings! With outstanding service, a variety of handcrafted drinks, and a food menu without a bar choice, it is the place to be! The manager even knows most of the costumers by name and makes them feel like a million bucks! You really can’t go wrong at Jakes!

Damn good lamb shank, wish I had passed on the appetizer and salad. Good wine and a great server. Would ask him to slow it all down next time but I think he was just trying not to neglect us. Thai Calamari was good but the pieces were tiny and the dish was overwhelmed with bean sprouts and cabbage. The sauce is a bit rich for the portion between two people. I wouldn’t order it again. But the lamb shank… I haven’t quit thinking about it since I left…

Had a 16oz ribeye and I have to say it was good. Good seasoning, cooked medium with pink in the middle to perfection. The spicy potato cake had some great flavor with a slight kick, very good as well. One slight drawback was the onion and mushrooms. Although I enjoy them on my steak, they went a little bit overboard with it and took a lot of flavor from the cut of meat. Will definitely come back very soon.

Disappointed. For how expensive this place is, the steaks are sub-par. You would think a Montana steakhouse would have amazing steaks, right? Wrong… I asked for medium rare and I couldn’t broken a window with what I received. At least the pasta we ordered was good. But seriously? Pasta at a steakhouse? I was not impressed. Applebees would’ve served a better steak. Service was awkward, atmosphere is a stock-standard steakhouse, menu was uneventful, the entire experience was weird. Over it. Would avoid it if you are considering.

The service here is first rate! Our waitress’s name is Sydney. She’s top notch. We had a long day, with a morning funeral in Wyoming, and we’re exhausted by the time we got to Billings(with a 6-month-old in tow). We were seated immediately and our drinks arrived within minutes. Most importantly, our waitresses were very helpful with the baby, smiling at him while we looked at the menu. The tuna appetizer was amazing, considering that we’re in Montana! I ordered the prime rib(yum) and my mom and sister had the ribeye. None of us finished our food but not for want of trying! The apple crisp for dessert was spicy with cinnamon and not too sweet. The ambience is lovely and classic, the temperature good, and the food plentiful. A wonderful night!
