I’ve been doing the Schubergs thing and I just got so tired of reeking like grease burger. This has been refreshing.

The worst turkey spinach artichoke panini. Never tasted the artichoke or spinach. Too much cream cheese or something. Spring rolls did not have enough vegetables but had too much cream cheese. Service was good but the food was nothing I would go back for.

Food is good– there is enough space between the bar and seating area, so it’s OK to bring kids in to eat during appropriate hours. My favorites are the nachos and spring rolls. Fair pricing, average to good wait staff.

I’ve spent the last nine years overseas in the USAF in japan and Germany equally. This bar is a GEM. And I’ve seen many a gin joint. This place is a MUST. Great food, atmosphere, the shot list is insane… and his craft beer on tap. What more could I ask for.

I love the food and I love the atmosphere of the Gypsy Nickel! If all I came here for was the food, I’d be one happy camper and I might even rate it 4 stars but that is not all I come here for! I have given their karaōke DJ chance after chance to show me he isn’t the complete pompous jerk I think he is. He picks favorites, plays his friends over customers, has LONG periods of dead air space while he mingles and smokes, and plays more dance music than singers! If you approach him with your dissatisfaction, you’ll be sure to never sing again! He fails to take responsibility for his actions and blames it on the long list of singers. I can literally count the number of times others get up to sing repeatedly between my songs. From 10:00 pm to 2:00 am, I’m lucky to get in 2 songs, and it’s not because I can’t sing and I’ll take that challenge any day! I’ve never ever had such poor karaōke experiences as when I come here and I won’t soon be back or bringing friends, well unless they find a new DJ. So if you’re in it for a fantastic meal feel free to stop in! If you like to sing… well, not my recommended hot spot.

The menu is genius! I have tried a lot on it and haven’t had one foul thing. The atmosphere is beautiful and the servers are friendly. The back deck is perfect for warm summer nights and the music is always playing. It is another nice bar on Big Rapids that can be family friendly OR perfect for a night out. I definitely recommend their spring rolls and burgers!

Great place to sit and eat by the riverside. Our waitress was great. For the price of the food it was really good and inexpensive. Loved it!

I always like to say that if you like food, you’ll find something you like at the Gypsy Nickel. From the macaroni and cheese (that comes with bacon and is made better with broccoli), to the chicken and rice with the sesame sauce, there is a lot of diversity on the menu. The plating is also generally impressive, depending who’s in the kitchen that day. Moving on from that, the standard at the GNL is superior service, always with a smile. There are a couple of great servers in particular: Haley, Danielle, and Hannah will always take care of you. And if you sit at the bar, prepare to never have an empty drink! There’s never more than a minute wait for your drink.

My wife and I were glad we found this restaurant while we stayed in Big Rapids. Food was great and service was excellent. We loved being able to sit on the deck overlooking the Muskegon river as well. We will definitely eat here again!

Food is homemade and great! The chips and salsa is my favorite as well as the spring rolls! Service is always great! Great food and drink specials daily!

Best bar I have been to in Big Rapids. They have amazing spring rolls and a good selection of beer. I don’t care for the Mac and cheese, but I ave alot of good food there.
Love that they have some different nights and specials. I am particularly fond of trivia night.

Decent food and a wide selection of Michigan craft beers. Don’t expect quick service, even when the place isn’t busy. Staff are cordial. Tuesday nights are Team Trivia nights, large crowd but good drink and food specials after 8pm

We stopped on our way up to Mackinaw Island. This place had a nice atmosphere, a good patio, a range of beers on tap, prompt service, and pretty good food. A good little spot.

We only went for drinks and appetizers but overall they are really friendly here. The atmosphere is really cool and from what I saw and tasted, the food is pretty good too. They also have really good specials that differ each day. I do have to agree with Stephen B. because they are a little slow with the service no matter how busy they might be.

It’s either hit or miss here. Most of the time the food is really good. they have a lot of interesting selections that are very good. The service is usually pretty bad, no matter if you are the only people in there or if there is a small or big crowd. It’s definitely worth a try, the food is good!

I am highly disappointed in the gypsy. I was there last night after I had just arrived in town to see family. Everything was going fine until the end of the night. We were told it was last call and got our final drinks, 20 minutes later we were told there was only 10 minutes left in the night so we started to finish up our drinks. After the 10 minutes went by the bartender picked up the intercom and screamed and swore repeatedly at my friends and I to get out of the bar. We were never respectively told to leave and didn’t believe we were overstaying our welcome. I can’t believe the gypsy nickel lets their bartender treat customers this way. I, personally, don’t feel it is important to go back and am disappointed.

My wife and I visited for the first time and we both had burgers which were very good though the patties did not appear to be hand made. Service was good and the waitress spent some time telling us about the place since it was our first visit. The fries were excellent. We where there on a Friday afternoon and it wasn’t too crowded but as we were finishing up it seemed the Friday evening crowd was starting to arrive. They have live music Sat nights.

This place keeps adding nice touches. Parking lot is now paved, updated menu, some new patio furniture. They have deck dining on the river and Team Trivia on Tuesday nights which brings a good crowd and is fun. We used them for our holiday party in 2011 and they took great care of us. The wait staff is very nice. Food is quite good an different from the norm — we’ve liked most everything we’ve tried. Spring rolls are a hit, fat noodle soup is really great (lo-​carbers can ask for no noodles which is awesome!), and the burgers are also really good on yummy pretzel buns. I really like the salsa, although it is fairly garlic-​y. They’ve added a mango salsa option as well with won-​ton chips which is unique. The Barbacoa del Rez is a nice spicy entrée. The roast is usually pretty good, too. I frequently get the house salad with chicken and enjoy it with the balsamic vinaigrette. Sometimes food can take a little while to get and the soda isn’t all that fizzy, and some people I know say the menu is a bit limited, but I’d rather have fewer tasty things than a lot of chain restaurant frozen/​heat food. Those are about the biggest negatives but anyone in town should give this place a try.
