History
Established in 1961.
In 1959, the Conservative Baptist Association of Southern California began to search and pray for a camp. They were in need of a facility that would meet the needs of people everywhere. They also desired a place that could equally accommodate family camps, men’s retreats, women’s retreats, Christian education groups and other church organizations. In January, 1961 Pine Summit was born. Over the next 40 plus years, Pine Summit expanded and developed its property and mission, becoming one of the premier camps in the Southern California area. Pine Summit gained a reputation for providing superb camping experiences to tens of thousands of people annually. In 2009, «The Great Recession» had a major financial impact on Pine Summit. In 2010, Pine Summit needed a buyer, The Salvation Army needed a camp, and over 200 years of ministry history blended together. Once escrow closed in 2011, renovations began. New facilities were developed and the staff was realigned with a new focus and mission.
