Apples Bed and Breakfast Inn

Just came back from this gem! Came here for a scrapbooking retreat. I loved how cozy this place is and all the little extras like tea and chocolates! The 4:00 cheese and crackers was also a nice surprise. Food was delicious!

Absolutely love this place. I would highly recommend it to anybody. Great hospitality great food great service. We will definitely be back

Went here for one night and I wanted to stay forever!!! It is so cute and comfortable! I felt at home. It was toasty warm and they had cookies made fresh and cupcakes in the evening!!! It was seriously as if I was at my grandma’s! Loved it and will always be staying here whenever I go. They had a DVD collection and living room area available for all and At all times.

Stayed here for 4 nights… this place is simply amazing our room was adorable and vet clean. breakfast each morning was yummy i don’t even like eggs but I ate them each morning. They thought of everything if you are looking for a romantic weekend away to get away from it all try Apples out you won’t be disappointed…

I had the pleasure to stay at this Beautiful Inn this past weekend. What a fantastic little piece of heaven. The hospitality here is amazing. The food is unforgettable. We used a conference room for four days for a craft retreat. We are already setting up again for the next one. This is a bucket list destination…

Just had another perfect weekend at Apples. We’ve been coming here every year for 11 years and when we leave, we are already looking forward to our next visit in January. Kathy & Chris spoiled us rotten with their fantastic appetizers, breakfasts, desserts, and their welcoming hospitality. One of our girls has some special dietary restrictions, and they always accommodate her requests without any issue.
What’s not to like here? They are friendly, the inn is beautiful as well as comfortable, the food is fantastic, and you are able to just enjoy yourself and relax. Our group just loves this B&B, and can’t imagine how anyone could find fault with it. You should treat yourself and come stay here.

Began coming here in 2007 for a fabulous Scrapbooking Weekend. I was so impressed in every way that I’ve come throughout the year multiple times the past eight years.
Apples is consistently spotlessly clean and fresh. Each room decorated uniquely and comfortably.
The staff led by Barbara and Jim, always have smiles on their faces and are gracious. This weekend, I had the genuine pleasure of getting to know Kathy and Chris, Apples management partners.
What a wonderful team they are !
Around the corner is the Big Bear Village and Lake, ski slopes etc.

My father brought his 5 grown children with their spouses and their children to Apples. The rooms were beautifully decorated. The main room was very nice and fit all 21 comfortably. They served all of us breakfast. Mind you we all had our own diet restrictions. Some are vegans, vegetarians, regular and low carb. Besides that everyone has their own taste preferences. Apples was very accommodating as best as they could be serving 21 people in our party and other parties as well. When my mom made dinner she made one meal for everyone. If you didn’t eat what was there then you didn’t eat. I couldn’t get everyone’s order exactly correct if I were cooking for so many. All in all it was very good and plentiful. We had a great time visiting. Yes it rained so we couldn’t participate in outdoor activities but that let us visit with each other which we rarely can do since we live in different cities. I had a great time with my family.

I stayed at Apples Inn with a group of about 20 people.
Since they serve breakfast each morning, upon arrival, they asked the members of our group about special dietary requirements. They tried to get everything correct but they did have some difficulty keeping things straight. I would recommend that they create some kind of printed questionnaire to give to their clients, to make the process less confusing.
That said, I am not a fan of waking up early while on vacation to eat an early breakfast, which I often skip while at home.
The management decided to put out place-​cards in order to keep things straight behind the scenes, which didn’t seem like a good answer (from my side of the table). Why can’t I sit next to whoever I wish and still get my correct meal? In serving my plate of food, my name was called out in order to identify me, regardless of the place-​card that forced me to sit in a certain seat, anyway.
They did make me the food items that I requested, including: pancakes, a small container of granola, 2 toy size pitchers, one for syrup and another to hold just the right amount of almond milk for the granola, a bit of butter, and a small container of fruit. The first day, I also received a very small bit of jelly, which I would have liked more. The second day, I received the exact same items, but minus any jelly and instead of cantaloupe pieces, it had watermelon. I sort of hoped that the second day I might get the french toast that I had also mentioned as being on my diet for breakfast when I was originally asked about my dietary preferences. Some variety would have been appreciated.
Since it rained while we were there, my group spent a good deal of time in their main large family room, which has a large blue soft couch. Snacks were brought out during the day and in the evenings, that always had at least something of interest, with the highlight being some oatmeal/​coconut very tasty cookies, packaged in 3s.
The provided refrigerator was stocked with soft drinks only. I would have liked bottled water and ice-​tea, although hot coffee was also available.
My room was quite nice and there were other nice features and perks, such as DVD players in all the rooms with a nice amount of DVD movies from which to choose. All in all, my group had a good time and enjoyed our stay.

If you don’t care about your health and have no special requests, then I am sure the food is fine. However, if you have any special food issues I. e low carb, gluten free, vegan etc then bring you own food.
They served one of our vegan party a biscuit (not vegan), put maple syrup on meat (not low carb) and cooked everything in butter, sugar and fat.
That being said, if you love big calorie breakfasts, heavy on all the things you should not eat, then you will be fine.
This place is good for a scrapbooking group, but they were not happy with us sitting in their common area, but they had no suggesting for anything to do, as it was a rainy day.
Is short, if you like a traditional hotel, this is not for you. If you want «quaint» «heavy home cooking» and have NO food restrictions, this is fine.

The breakfast they served us was sooooooo good. It was stuff that I never even tried before it was so amazing. They have scheduled times for like cheese and crackers, coffee and cocoa and stuff. The rooms were newly remodeled I think because our room was a lot nicer than in their picture. Great Experience.

We only stay here, I have been coming here for 10+ years. I have been here as a couple when hubby and I were first married, in a group setting with scrapbooking girlfriends and as a family with spouse, kid and parents. So I think I am a pretty good judge. I should throw in that I travel the world for business and yes I have stayed at hotels, condos and cabins up here.
I return because its a warm, welcoming and well run establishment unlike anything else in Big Bear. It’s our mountain retreat away from home. The owners have built this B&B from the ground up and have thought of every consideration. They are dedicated and over the years boy have I seen them deal with some pretty demanding guest in a very graceful way. So I am grateful that they still open their home to all of us visitors.
Breakfast: I don’t know what else to say but it’s marvelous. They are gracious with the serving size and really out do themselves, each morning is a different menu. This morning was wonderful scrambled cheddar eggs, cheddar biscuit, apple dumplings, honey glazed breakfast sausage, fresh fruit, yogurt with granola, O.J., and coffee. Did I mention that on top of this, they will meet dietary needs, gluten, vegan, dietary restrictions.
4pm: snacking, Martinelli’s apple Juice and nice little spread of crackers, nuts, cheese and dried fruit. cookies all day!
7pm: Dessert, its always something homemade by Barbara. Brownies are her specialty in my humble opinion.
These people have earned my business and the time I have put into writing this review is to say thank to them for all the years they have hosted us, they warm, lovely people and accommodating. One year, Jim the owner was out in the cold, wet, snow jumping our dead batteries, so we could leave before the snow really came down and AAA was going to take too long. What more can I say, this place is worth it.

Absolutely LOVE this place! It’s like a home away from home. It give you the warm and cozy feeling. I have gone every march for 3 years now to scrapbook with a group of ladies. The food is amazing the beds are super comfy, the environment is very welcoming. I have liked it so much we took the whole family of 6 including grandma and grandpa up there for Thanksgiving. Barbra made a delicious thanksgiving dinner for all the guests! I highly recommend this place, in fact I don’t think I would stay anywhere else in big bear. Going again this coming March and I can’t wait!

We have been staying here every winter for the past 4 years. We come to this bed and breakfast to scrap book for the weekend with a group of 10 girls. The staff is nice, the rooms are clean and food is very good. They provide you with 3 meals a day, and will adjust to your dietary needs. They make almost everything here from scratch, and you can taste it in the food. Theirs is a great deli walking distance if you want to change up your meal that serves another healthy alternative.

My husband and I love this place. The food is so good! People are friendly too. I recommend it.

Just spent the weekend here with 15 other scrapbookers. My friend has been bringing her group here for maybe 6 or 7 years and actually has a standing reservation for the same weekend every year. The inn and surrounding grounds are very nice and exactly what you would expect from a country inn, maybe even nicer. The décor is very country-​traditional and of course there are apple decorations everywhere.
There were 16 in our group and we had the conference room and guest rooms in the newer building off to the right of the main building. Our rooms were very nice — big — ours had one king bed and one daybed that was kind of short (luckily my roommate was only about 5′ tall!) My bed was very comfortable and I slept like a rock. The towels were really nice and fluffy. The only thing not nice about our room was the shower — a tiny stand-​up stall with one of those water-​saver shower heads that is more of a patio mister than a shower. If you have longer hair it takes like a year to get the shampoo rinsed out and even then it’s still not rinsed clean. Also it had a shampoo dispenser mounted to the wall right at elbow height (ouch.) They actually lose one star for the shower situation –otherwise I would have rated them a solid 4 stars. Also our room was very warm even with the windows open.
They did feed us a lot. Our package included three meals Saturday, snacks/​desserts Friday and Saturday (afternoon appetizers and evening desserts), and breakfast Sunday. Everybody raved about the food and several bought their new cookbook but I thought the food was a little on the processed side. One of the breakfast sides actually contained canned fruit cocktail and sugar-​free vanilla pudding from a box and «homemade» granola — although I think you can see what their definition of homemade is. But the egg dishes (quiche and something like a strata) were both delicious. Overall the baked goods were also very good.
The innkeepers and the help were nice-​ish — actually a little on the cranky side compared to other B&Bs I’ve been to. Everybody in our group (a lot of repeat visitors) seems to just love them. A husband and wife own the place, and one of their sons works there as well as a few other hired hands. When I asked for directions to church the wife was kind of short with me. But then she offered to save me a plate of dinner since I was going be late. So they are nice folks, but maybe 20 years of innkeeping wears you down so they need a little buttering up.
All in all it was a nice trip and if I am living nearby this time next year I hope to come up again. This is a good place for a group retreat.
