David L Finke, MD

Dr. Finke is absolutely the best doctor. I had to switch my OB when I was almost 30 weeks into my pregnancy, and he was recommended as someone who would understand and support a natural birth. He did an AMAZING job. He was very kind, understanding, caring and available. I would highly recommend him if you are thinking to deliver naturally (but in the hospital). He is very knowledgable, but also attentive and is ready to listen and respect your values, views, and needs.

My husband even says he’s glad we found dr Finke! He’s worth the drive for me and he’s very thorough. Having a 2^nd trimester miscarriage (under a different Doctor care) fertility issues and trying to conceive over 35 and I’m 100% comfortable with dr Finke. He responds to my concerns promptly (fever when pregnant) and listens/​cares about my concerns. He’s also very empathetic about me being a nervous pregnant woman. He checks what vitamin levels were low and educated me on what vitamins are important and when. I love the staff as well as Dr. Finke. My wait times have never been very long. The office is always clean and staff always professional. I highly recommend dr Finke as well as the staff here. My husband is very happy with our experiences here as well.

I just saw Dr. Finke for a routine pap smear and pelvic exam during my lunch break. I sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes, while all the existing patients coming in later, were getting called on. Finally, it was my turn! I submitted a urine sample and sat in Dr. Finke’s office for another 20 minutes before he showed up. The initial consultation probably took less than 5 minutes… Yes, I agree with most reviews that Dr. Finke is kind, outgoing, and attentive, but I thought it was unprofessional for him to yawn while talking to me. He wrote a prescription for some vitamins and handed it to me without saying anything. Um, Dr. Finke, you really should explain to me why I’m taking these vitamins… He did, after I questioned him. Then we moved on to contraception and Dr. Finke promised an IUD pamphlet, which I never received. The pap smear and pelvic exam were fairly straight forward and Dr. Finke explained them well, but I don’t think I will come back for another appointment.

If you had asked me a year ago this would have been a 5 star review, however, in that time Dr. Finke managed to overlook a major diagnosis that is now resulting in surgery. I called his office, requested labs be checked again because I was feeling symptomatic. He has his very rude mid-​level call me back and she had no time for my concerns. I will never see him again because of his negligence and lack of concern. The other women that I know who see him are also changing practitioners. He put me further away from my goal of pregnancy by simply not paying attention. In my book that is unforgivable.

I just recently saw Dr. Finke for the first time, and he had big shoes to fill. I literally LOVE my OBGYN in NYC (like, love love love!!!) and was so reluctant to find someone new and local to me in LA. That said, I figured it would be slightly more convenient to NOT have to jump on a plane to see the doctor that I love love love, so I searched through tons of reviews of local doctors, and scheduled with Dr. Finke. Due to my ever-​changing travel schedule for work, I booked an appointment, but then had to call back a week later to reschedule. Dr. Finke had no openings for awhile, and so I almost just cancelled, but then the receptionist mentioned they had a cancelation for two days later, so I grabbed the open spot. I’m so glad I did!!!
First of all, there wasn’t anything even remotely confusing about the building and getting up to the office. I didn’t wait longer than 2 minutes before being brought back. I met with the doctor briefly before the nurse took me into the exam room, and from beginning to end, I didn’t spend more than 30 minutes here. Dr. Finke came across as a busy guy, as every doctor in big cities do, but I was never put off by this. I didn’t have anything extensive to discuss, but I felt like, if I did, he would have listened and answered me thoroughly. I found him to be very respectful, very comfortable to be around, and someone very down-​to-​earth and non-​judgey. I can’t speak on the OB front just yet, but from a GYN perspective, I have nothing, but positive things to say about Dr. Finke and his staff. I can’t remember his nurse’s name, but I thought she was really sweet too. All in all, great experience here!!!

Dr Finke was recommended to me by my regular OB who was taking some time off from delivering babies to spend more time with her own children. We couldn’t have imagined a better fit for us. He’s kind, attentive, professional, and incredibly good at his job. While we were at Cedars and nurses would ask us who our doctor was they would always respond with «Dr Finke is one of the best if not THE best OB in LA.» I was never surprised to hear this. He saw us through the last two trimesters, birth and postpartum. My birth experience was wonderful and I wouldn’t change a thing if I had to do it all over again. I trusted his advice every step of the way and I’m so glad I did.

We owe him a much longer, glowing review, but since this is way overdue (2.5 years late, yikes!), I just want to say quite simply: Dr. Finke is the best in the game. He delivered both our kids and is the model of what an OB should be. If you can get in with him, you must!

Dr Finke, is the best, and i’m not kidding. I first visited him an year ago after reading all the reviews, and I can’t imagine going to another doctor after seeing Dr Finke. He delivered my first baby princes of 8 pounds and 5 oz, 21 inches in just 10 min with no tearing or episiotomy. I’m so glad I found this doctor, I never thought that a pregnancy could finish so beautiful. I’m 2 days postpartum right now and I didn’t experience any pain at all, that’s a miracle, and for it I thank you Dr Finke.

I found Dr. Finke through Unilocal.He had such great reviews. (with those cute pictures with the babies!) I thought I’d have a good experience for my basic annual women’s care appointment, but I did not. And I would like to warn others. It is completely NOT what I expected and was looking for. The experience was very disorganized and impersonal. I kept getting lost because the staff would forget to tell me where to go next. (There were many «stations».) They were not up front and clear with all the costs for a basic check up. It ended up costing much more than they quoted on the phone. It felt like all the women were being treated like cattle, just rushed from one area to the next. The staff left me feeling like they did not care about me as a person. Dr. Finke is not open to incorporating wholistic ways of medical care. (Which is very different than the reviews.) I think he has put a lot of effort in to building his Unilocal reputation, because he brought it up. I am only writing this review because I would like to prevent others from coming who are looking for a more personal, caring and open approach.

I have never left a Unilocal review of any place or person, ever… But having such an amazing experience with Dr Finke warranted the smallest gesture of a kind review. Dr. Finke is such a gift to the medical field. He has an amazing bedside manner and any patient who is lucky enough to have him as a doctor is truly blessed. If you are looking for an OB GYN that is attentive, kind, warm, and personable, Dr. Finke is the choice for you!

WOW … who knew a gynecologist could make you feel so comfortable from the minute you met him!!! My previous Gyn was a woman and I had to find a new Gyn because she was no longer in-​network with my insurance. So today was my first exam with Dr, Finke. He actually sat with me for 20+ minutes, attentively listening to my answers regarding relative medical history … and that was BEFORE his actual exam. He was surprisingly more thorough than any previous Gyn has been. He then discussed things for me to watch out for and strategies should they arise. This was important for me to hear because a previous Gyn used to push for radical and unnecessary measures. Dr. Finke didn’t. This is one very impressive doctor.
I’d also like to add that the staff were all very professional, friendly, and welcoming. Staff behavior toward patients can totally bring down the experience at a medical practice. In this case they complimented the experience with the doctor very well. You got the feeling of synergy within the practice and the feeling that the staff felt respected by the doctors. Nice!
Finally, a doctor who is sensitive to women’s self-​consciousness, body self-​image and modesty … and does not wave it off as if it were merely something you needed to «get over.» I do not personally have problems with this but a previous male Gyn did make me feel unnecessarily uncomfortable, which I related upfront. Dr. Finke showed me a completely opposite and very positive experience. AS IT SHOULD BE!
I would give this doctor my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. Dr. David Finke measured up to every word of praise I’d read before I chose him (both here on Unilocal and on BlueShieldCA’s member site).

I am a taker not a giver on Unilocal and I dont really want to share because I am selfish and want to keep him all to myself but Dr. Finke is amazing.
My gynecologist doesn’t have hospital admission privileges so when I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant with my first child, I needed to find an OB/​GYN to delivery our l’il Nugget stat.
My husband and I worked backwards and first decided where we wanted to deliver our baby (Cedars Sinai, after touring Huntington Hospital in Pasadena and Verdugo Hills in Glendale) and then based on that, searched for an OB/​GYN to do the work. A colleague worked with another doctor within the Women’s Care of Beverly Hills practice and recommended we check the place out.
Warning: Women’s Care of Beverly Hills is a machine — its a large busy practice of 5 doctors. You’re going to be whisked around by nurses, assistants etc, and they only have valet parking that isn’t cheap. That said, I hope to work with Dr. Finke to safely nurture and deliver any subsequent children (!!!).
The Pro’s:
— He’s incredibly personable, affable and all around easy going. Lighthearted, but direct and to the point, which I appreciate.
— He is gentle during his exams «down there» (9 out of 10), especially when you’re uterus and cervix are especially tender and sensitive (because there’s a baby in there).
— But when it comes time to get down to important medicine, he is a no-​nonsense, take charge kind of guy. My baby was breech (head up) at 37 weeks so he performed an External Cephalic Version (manual turning of the baby) and it was during this procedure that I really came to respect and admire the type of doctor that he is. She turned on the first try in about 15 seconds — but it was how he conducted himself during this procedure that put me and my husband completely at ease. So much so that we did the ECV unmedicated.
— He is flexible. He «catches» babies in multiple positions (kneeling, squatting, on all fours, and the traditional laid up on your back). He is fully supportive of walking while laboring, using the shower, labor balls etc. He’s the guy for momma’s who want to have their babies as naturally as possible, but want the comfort and reassurance of being in a hospital environment.
— He operates more like a partner in your birth experience than an authoritative doctor. I had a natural (unmedicated) birth and when it came time to start pushing, he explained what I needed to do in a way that allowed me to make the necessary adjustments (e.g. changing how I was pushing, changing the position I was in during pushing etc.) to speed up the process, while keeping my baby’s heartbeat as regular as possible.
The Con’s:
— That damn valet
— Its a crowded, busy office. So if you’re looking for someone to sit with you, look deep in your eyes, ask you about your kids, your parents, what you ate for breakfast and traffic on the 10 freeway, this isn’t it. But if you’re looking for a friendly doctor, who is confident, secure and assertive, while still affable and congenial, Dr. Finke is the guy.
**** This practice will collect your in-​network deductible before billing your insurance company. So be prepared to be asked to pay the deductible for delivery and receive a refund from your insurer 3 – 4 months after delivery once your insurance company is billed.

Dr. Finke made my first OBGYN experience away from home AMAZING! And I never thought I’d say that about a man who has to exam my lady parts. For once, I actually feel at ease and happy about my Gyno.
The reason I give only 4 stars is because the other staff was not that great. The ladies at the check in and check out desk are wonderful. But the ladies who did my sonogram and blood work were very uninterested in me. I almost felt like a burden to them.
BUT — Dr. Finke is personable, concerned, and funny — all things you want in a doctor who has to check out your lady parts. When I was clearly uncomfortable, he said «no one looks forward to a pap smear!» — which then made me feel comfortable. And to be honest, I now look forward to my next appointment. Um… is that weird? Whatevs.
I told him I was concerned about some hair loss, so he immediately ordered blood work — WHICH happened right down the hall at the end of my visit with him. I’m used to going to the hospital the next day or week for blood work. So that was a very nice surprise!
I also told him I was worried about cysts on my ovaries. He ordered me a sonogram, and within minutes I was in the dark room with a lady who performed my sonogram. She was not as personable, not nearly as nice, BUT regardless, she did her job and sent me on my way back to Dr. Finke.
I also told him my insurance was out of network. Which means I had to pay up front and then be reimbursed by my insurance. At the end of my visit when it was time to pay, the woman checking me out told me I received a discount: $ 100 OFF! Um, heaven sent?
And with a pap smear, STD test, sonogram AND blood work (for thyroid, antibodies, vitamin D, and iron) — it all came to $ 380.
For a girl on a budget, I was so pleased with this.
Choose this man as your gyno. You will not be disappointed.

I only met with him once and but I really liked him as a doctor. The main reason I switched to a different doctor was that my first choice opened up and I had a preference for a female OBGYN. However, I did not have a problem with his care at all and was very impressed by his accommodation to my family and I, as I brought my husband and daughter to the appointment. He made it clear that he could always be contacted when needed and very patiently and thoroughly answered all of my questions. If I hadn’t already had my mind set on meeting with a different doctor I would happily return to Dr. Finke.
I also want to commend the rest of the staff as they were very friendly and professional as well. I needed my medical records sent to my new doctor in a kind of a hurry and the medical records lady I talked to each time on the phone was kind, understanding and quick to respond. She faxed all of my files to another office despite the short notice so I did not need to reschedule my appointment with them. She made transferring my files a breeze even though I would no longer be visiting with their office.

Most people are reluctant to see a physician assistant versus the actual physician but I promise the quality of care is no less.
She’s super sweet and on top of things and the staff are great at following up and relaying messages. Their lab is quick and they get you your results within days. I was in Friday and Valerie already left a message saying everything was all clear Monday morning.
Even back when I used to work for a radiology center 3 years ago and they referred to us and if any issues came up w our patients the office was quick to resolve them. They were my favorite office to call to clear up and order or diagnosis mix ups.
The staff is also very helpful. I recommend this office to anyone.

I switched to Dr Finke in the middle of my first pregnancy because I wasn’t happy with my prior Dr.
I don’t know how it’s possible to enjoy the multitude of appointment that come with pregnancy but I did with Dr Finke.
I never felt talked down to. He always treated me as an intelligent person with valid concerns and ideas.
The delivery was the wonderful calm experience I wanted.
Number 2 is on the way and I’m very happy to know I already have a Dr I trust completely.

When we moved to LA, I kept driving into OC for my yearly exam… it was time to find someone here.
Dr. Finke is everything one could want in a trusted doctor. He listens, is thorough and personable, gives lots of valuable information, and put me at ease.
If you are looking for an ob/​gyn, I highly recommend Dr. Finke!

I’m glad I did my research for my lady parts doctor! I switched my insurance plans just to be able to see this guy!
Dr. Finke, is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. He made both myself and my husband feel SO comfortable (went in for a preconception consultation and also a lady parts exam.) Both myself and my husband hate going to the doctor. Anything medical, I’m over it. I get light headed even hearing the words «blood work» and «lab».
My blood pressure goes sky high and I start to panic and go into fight or flight mode. Not the best idea, but not the case at all here.
I felt like I was on The Price is Right when they unveil the prizes (Bob Barker version of course.) Things kept getting nicer and nicer, from the ease of finding a parking spot three blocks away, to filling out my intake sheet, to the friendliness of the staff, right down to meeting Dr. Finke, and hearing him telling me that I’m doing a great job for losing 20 lbs (HIS WORDS!!!) had me in tears. The good kind. I am just so tired of being treated like shit (from fat shaming to doctors thinking I was first in line at McDonald’s every day and asking if i knew what Trader Joe’s was, to accusing my husband of being a slut because he’s a musician (!!!)) by doctors. I was so relieved to have found him. I also wanted to keep screaming «WHAT?! WHAAAAT?!» I honestly could not believe my luck in finding him. I EVEN ENJOYED GETTING BLOOD DRAWN.
Dr. Finke, is warm and friendly. He explains things clearly, does not dumb it down one bit and is a super ace. He’s got good beside manners and is super professional.
He didn’t flinch when I said I wasnt sure that we could afford to get genetic testing done just yet. He actually calculated how much it would cost us and I thought that was super cool. He was very patient with me, and all my paranoid/​borderline dumb questions I had to get out of the way. Dr. Finke even called me personally to explain my lab results. AWESOME! My husband even said he trusts him, and is jealous he can’t be his doctor too. Hahaha!
The wait time for my appointment was nothing at all. I got there early, filled out the necessary paper work, then asked to use the restroom, then they took me in!
Parking costs about $ 17 to park in the garage there, so just hoof it three blocks south of the building and make a left and there is free two hour parking.
I CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE DR. FINKE DELIVER MY FUTURE BABIES!

First let me say that I was beyond picky with choosing our obstetrician. We had first thought we were going to go with a midwife for prenatal care and after a scare where they did not have the equipment at hand to let us know if our baby was ok, we decided to look for another option.
I literally looked up reviews and background on every single doctor in our insurance network. Dr. Finke’s reviews and stats spoke volumes and we were not disappointed. We both feel as though we have found an amazing doctor. Before we could go into how we wanted a natural birth, no induction, no epidural, no c-​section, etc etc etc he explained his perspective on birthing; how he believes in letting things happen as naturally as possible; how he has an extremely low induction rate and c-​section rate as well. Those he reserves for extreme last measures. Exactly what we were hoping for.
Dr Finke put us at ease and answered every single question we were prepared to ask (and there were LOTS!) before we could ask them; not only regarding birth but the pregnancy in general. I felt so much was brought to light– even concerns I didn’t know I would have in the coming months, were addressed. My darling other half was speechless for the first time in a situation like this; he usually has 50 million overly detailed questions so this was impressive! haha
I also loved that Dr Finke is available to reach via email with non urgent questions and by phone for urgent concerns. This is definitely a doctor that loves what he does and cares about his patients. I’m so grateful we found him.
Ultimately, we opted for Dr. Finke for our prenatal care and then to labor at home with a doula followed by a midwife assisted birth at UCLA Midwives. This was the perfect combination for us.
A few things to be aware of…
We had randomly heard from midwives at Cedars that Dr Finke is known as a very «hands off» doctor which is nice.
He does recommend flu vaccines and the Whooping cough vaccine for pregnant women which we really did not want to do and opted not to do just yet. Other than this, he was amazingly understanding and very open to all concerns.
Update:
We went into labor a few months early & I wish we had Dr Finke there! The ucla midwives do not deliver before 36 weeks unfortunately, so we while we did get assigned an amazing high risk ob, we still had to deal with inexperienced residents– a frustration we did not need at that time.
Our next baby, we will be back with Dr Finke.
