Amanda Foundation

In 1997, as a result of a local news station that featured adoptable pets on their Saturday morning show, I adopted two 8 – 9 week old tortoiseshell kittens from Amanda. One of my girls, Sunshine, lived over 17 years, and passed peacefully in my arms. The other, Tagger, now over 19, is lying in a ray of sunshine in the next room, old, less strong but still pretty darn vital, and a joy to me every day.
This is a good foundation, and has placed thousands of otherwise hopeless pets in loving homes. Ignore the hater reviews. Go here, or somewhere, and rescue someone who will enhance your life in ways you can’t know as you read this.

What a giant b#$@%$ they clearly do not care about dogs or the safety of dogs.
I have called several times about a neuter and «the acting manager» isnt acting as a manager as she told me where i live without even seeing proof in front of her and proceeds to hang up on 4 times IN A ROW when i ask to speak to someone else due to her demeanor! yeaup… they are «clearly» in it to help. I AM SO DISGUSTED BY THESE PEOPLE.

The Amanda Foundation is nothing short of amazing!!! My beloved papillon of 10 years developed a tumor, and the Laurel Pet Hospital would not operate. I woke up one morning, and saw my Peanut on the floor. I called my friend, who works and recommended The Amanda Foundation, in tears. I saw it in his eyes. I told her «I think my baby is dying!» She told me to bring him immediately, and everyone was incredible! They ran his blood work, and the chances were more than slim that he would survive. I was in the room, preparing my goodbyes, and what I believe was the owner, came in and said «We wanna try the surgery! We see how much you love him, and we’re gonna try!»
I cannot tell you how much this meant to me. As I was leaving, because they said it would take some time, my friend Kari Jo came and grabbed me, and said «You need to come back in.»
I came back in and sat in the waiting room when I heard the machine beep. I knew. I just started screaming «My boy!» as the staff hugged me. They came out and told me that as soon as they gave him the anesthesia, before they were able to do anything, his little heart gave out. They have me time with him, and we’re all incredibly comforting.
Within a week I received his ashes, and they gave me a paw impression with his name, and a little tube embedded with his hair in his color pattern. It was so thoughtful! Not only that, but they knew that I was recently diagnosed with MS, and took care of the bill!
They were great!!!

This is the worst animal hospital ever!!! Super unprofessional staff that are all idiots. A ten minute neutering session took these people 5 hours and still hadn’t neutered my dog. He was sitting there since 8:00am, drugged waiting in a cell and they did not bother feeding him anything until we called them too. No one could answer the question as to wtf was going on. The girls that work there are completely incompetent and if I could I would not give this place 1 star. The worst animal clinic. Do not take your pet here if you care about your pet. Not to mention the place is not very nice looking and doesn’t look that sanitary, considering its in Beverly Hills.
Dr.Shipp I have heard was great but not this new vet.
STAY AWAY.

Despite multiple vets offices in the area referring me to them as an animal shelter, they are not an animal shelter (according to them). They won’t even help you with the logistics if you come across a stray animal. The owner had major attitude; she was rude & condescending offering no help. No concern was shown at all for the animal. It was quite upsetting.

The spay mobile from Amanda foundation is amazing. I took my cat, Gatsby to get nuetered because I had to. I had two females and him… not a good idea Lol.
I called the number that’s on the website for the spay mobile and made an appointment, they explain to you what you need to take. They are very clear on that, and you can ask questions about it. You need to just make a copy of your income (electric/​water bill, etc) and the paper has to have your address included. Also a copy of your California ID, that’s it. Lol Before you do all that check out the schedules they are going to be there, one that’s close to you. Its Free and that’s just the best part, I only paid for the cone that was $ 5. They offered one vaccine for him for $ 10, so in total I paid $ 15.
After you do all that, bring your lovely animal at 7am and pick them up by noon. (: Ask questions to after you pick them up if your concerns about your animal, as in what can you do if your animal has an infection after the surgery.
Overall, it was a great experience and now I will be taking my 3 other cats as well :) You won’t regret it if you are aware of everything, ask questions and all.

To those who would leave a bad review: Really? What is wrong with you people? This is an ANIMAL RESCUE!!! So what if they didn’t make you feel warm and fuzzy?
I was so shocked to see complaints — But quickly noticed a common thread– me, me, me. Don’t you get it? They are trying to make sure that the animals they are saving, will get a good home, someone that won’t abandon them this time. My experience was great, I thought they really cared about the animals well being

This review is for the spay mobile.
I understand the service was free but I kind of feel bad that I wasn’t offered or informed about any medication for my dog after she got surgery. My dog was in pain when we got home, she cried and whined. I wasn’t told that I could have gave her medication until I found out about another organization that offers medication after the procedure is done. Overall the surgery went good, my dog is okay I just feel bad that my dog had to put up with the pain and that I couldn’t help her.

Sincerely the biggest scam that I have encountered. Wanted to base it on my household income when I’m classified as independent. I may live at home but all of my bills, etc. including my kittens are paid by me. I pay rent to stay at home, and they still wanted the total household income including the homeowner. Well of course I won’t be approved since in total everyone in my home works. How is this even legal? I swear someone should sincerely have a watchdog organization look into their financial practices and evaluations of income.

Just used the mobile clinic to get my buddy neutered dropped him off around 730 am was ready for pick up by 11 am staff was very friendly and helpful

My family and I have so much faith in the Amanda Foundation hospital. They are so professional and knowledgeable on animals. They continue to impress me all the time. These are true genuine women and men who are making a difference by saving and helping animals.
When taking my dog Rugby to get surgery, I was so nervous for him, but the staff made it so comfortable for me and my dog. My dog ended with a speedy recovery and now is still jumping and running around like crazy everytime we go to the park.
My other dog Angel was seen by them and confirmed to be diagnosed with a benine fatty tissue by her leg. I was extremely impressed how the vet waited and made sure that Angel was comfortable with her. You’re not going to get any type of service like that in any other vet hospital!
This foundation are doing what they can and running different/​various types of things.
Mobile clinic, a hospital, an adoption facility ALL in one! My God! They deserve respect and consideration.
They need all the donations they can get through a warm heart.

I had a great experience, minus the fact i was sad for my dog. I was a little sketched out and worried reading these reviews on the spaymobile terrors. But it wasnt even CLOSE to that. Its really up to you to take care of your dog after post-​op.
Make sure you have a copy of your id, from of income, and electric bill.
My appointment was at 7am, but i showed up at 6:30am and started lining up, i got my dog back around 11:30am and was sent home with antibiotics. Its sunday now and its been 7 days and my dog is pretty much healed. Thank you amanda foundation for helping me out. Don’t listen to the haters!

This review is for the neuter/​spray mobile.
We did extensive research online to find low-​cost neutering clinics serving LA city and was referred by the LA County Animal Services hotline. The Amanda Foundation offer free service for low-​income or low-​cost for senior citizens, which was about a quarter of the cost compared to our usual clinic so we thought to set up an appointment.
I called the day I was referred but got the automatic answer machine so I hung up to do some research about the organization. Looking through reviews on Unilocal made me nervous since most everyone mentioning their mobile service had terrible experiences. But as I looked through all their reviews, I thought the Amanda Foundation was legit.
Called the neuter/​stray mobile number to set up an appointment on Thursday afternoon, and I was surprised someone picked up. I didn’t get her name but she was nice and thorough, explaining the paperwork I needed to bring, recommending a place near where I live. We made an appointment for 7am on Saturday and were told not to give food/​water after midnight on the day before.
Got there a bit before 7am, and the mobile appeared right on time. As I expected, people were already coming out of their cars to get in line– I think the appointment time is more like a signing-​in time. Got in line, filled out the paper work, said goodbye to the puppy at around 7:30– I was third in line.
I got a call at around 11am to pick the puppy up. And of course, people I saw in the morning were all there so I had to wait about 20 minutes to get the puppy back. He was fine, and all the other dogs/​cats I saw come out seemed perfectly fine as well. They handed out post-​op instructions and a proof of sterilization, and we were good to go. It’s been a few days now since the surgery but he is healthy and doing well.
The Amanda Foundation is a non-​profit organization so they need proper documentation to get paid through gov’t assistance. Make sure to bring proper documents to prove your low-​income status or a copy of your ID if you qualify for senior citizen discount. $ 5 for the cone for post-​op so bring cash.
I think things might be a bit more efficient if they posted the paperwork online so people who have it on hand don’t need to wait and could fill out forms more accurately.
Overall, everything went nicely.

Is this place even open anymore? I have been calling for about a month now and nobody has answered my voicemails or emails. It’s unfortunate too, I am really interested in adopting one of their dogs.

Pedro needed a companion so without hesitation we went to AF for our second pup, Lulu.
Traci was at the facility and was adamant about finding P his most compatible companion and was honest and patient with her feedback on each pup. We were expecting to get another 2-​ish year old male chi terrier mix, but Pedro meshed best with a 6 month old female, Lulu (formerly Lucinda.) A little hesitant to get a puppy, we waited a few weeks. I was browsing on Facebook and saw Lulu and her sister dressed in Christmas sweaters, showed the picture to my BF, and oddly enough, he told me he was going to talk to me about going back and getting Lulu because he had a dream about her the previous night.
King Pedro is much happier now that Princess Lulu is there to keep him company :)

I adopted a wonderful dog from them and after 2 months I brought her back for a visit. As soon as she caught a whiff of the shelter she started pulling… dragging me back to the shelter. She was so happy there and had such fond memories of Teri, Tracy, and the staff are all wonderful.
This is an amazing organization doing good work in this city. I love them.

If you are a dog or cat owner there’s probably not a better place to bring your pet. A nonprofit organization that genuinely cares about the wellbeing of your animal and companion. We just left our little puppy maple with them and she’s having surgery on her broken foot:(but knowing how much these people care is very comforting, and we know maple will make a full recovery.
After this whole ordeal is over we will officially give maple the middle name of Amanda! Thank you so much to everyone at the Amanda foundation. We would love to come back to volunteer when maple is all healed up!

#D020 — NOTE: Never asked for ANY paperwork over the phone when I made the «appointment» to get my dog spayed. Again I repeat!!, NO one asked me to provide PAPERWORK
Once I arrived at the «appointed» some lady with curl hair (Jennifer Cola) approach me asking for me paperwork. I informed her that I was never asked to bring paperwork… Jennifer Cola then became unbearably rude, she then start behaving like a child, rolling her eyes, she also made a attempt to start yelling (not)… Jennifer Cole is a rube, horrible person and lack any level for professionalism
If this is the way Jennifer Cole interact with people, What is she doing behind closed doors with your pet!

For years I’ve directed friends and family to Amanda Foundation for dog & cat adoptions, low cost vaccines & spay/​neuters for their pets, and a hugely reputable vet clinic. I even adopted a cat (I’m a dog person… how did this happen?! LOL) from them about 2 years ago myself.
Back in February however, I brought my 6 year old German Shepherd in for observation as he had vomited a few times overnight and didn’t seem his usual self… Thank god I did — the incredible, dedicated, wonderful team at Amanda Foundation saved his life. I couldn’t believe how many people stayed late to see him through his emergency surgery, how truly caring and skilled everyone was. I think it was after 1am when we all left, the Dr, the support staff, even Teri who runs everything stayed to make sure we were OK and that he pulled through.
I cannot express my gratitude enough to everyone there, the care my guy received that night and for the week he was there recovering? Outstanding. I am still incredulous at compassion and dedication of everyone there.
Whether you’re looking to adopt, volunteer, donate, get vet care for your pet, whatever — you couldn’t find a better place!!!

This is a review for their mobile clinic.
Setting up the appointment was easy enough, especially after my puppy caught kennel cough and I was forced to reschedule.
Only downside to calling and making an appointment was it an answering machine. So you are forced to leave your contact information, even when you need to reschedule, every time you need to talk to an associate and wait for them to call you back. Aside from that, the associates were helpful and very kind to my situation, thus why I gave them a two star instead of a flat out one.
The next problem arose the day of my 6^th month old pup surgery. I brought her in at 7am to the North Hollywood location and dropped my pup off. They told me it could take a while for a call back to pick up my pup since they have to check all other confirmations in.
Either way, I digress. I left my pup there at 7am and received a call back at about 11:30am, which was rather pleasing. (thought I wrote the early call due to the fact I was second to check in my pup upon arrival.) What disturbed me was when I retrieved my pup. I looked at the job they had done and it looked terrible. Some how during the procedure, my pups sutures (stitching) became infected and inflamed. I had asked if that was normal and they assistant that I asked was just telling me some story about how the procedure was done and brushed it off. They didn’t prescribe any meds for me to give her even though she was whimpering from all the discomfort.
I immediately took her to my vet and had them prescribe me some meds for my poor pup, they say it wasn’t as bad as it looked but it can happen with 1 in every 5 surgeries. I wish to post a picture but I’m not sure if they would take such a thing down. I’ll post one anyone and you all can decide for yourself. The swelling has died down a bit from the meds I have given her but I don’t think I’d recommend them to anyone.
I could be just a worried mom but who wouldn’t be after being told it’s a simple surgery and your baby comes out worse than they tell you.
